I have been tracking my expenses for about two years in Excel using an earlier budget template you offered. Let me tell you, this is a terrific revision. I like the forecasting tool (Budget Smarter) and will begin using this at the beginning of 2023. Well worth the minimal investment and I appreciate the time and energy you put into developing this one. I know I will come to appreciate the Dashboard feature as the year rolls along. Very helpful!

Outstanding work!, I just purchased this template after using the previous Budget version for some time. Not only did it drastically helped me take control of my budget and opened the door for investments but it also taught me a few extra things about Excel in the process (huge plus!). Can't thank you enough for the content, your valued time, mind, and help to those in need. The new Budget Smart spreadsheet is amazing! I can now breath better by having a projected view 2 yrs ahead and adjust if necessary with plenty of time before problems may arise. I was actually budgeting way too high which is not bad, but this helped me trim it down to a more comfortable, sustained value. Once again a million Thanks, great work!

Hey, been using this awesome spreadsheet all month and love it. One issue I'm having is when I add a fixed expense to the Setup tab. Is there a finite amount of rows you can add to the fixed expense section? I am adding a monthly expenses to begin next month (10/1/22). I add it to the table on the Setup tab, press the Add Expenses button. The macro kicks off but the new entry doesn't show in either the Fixed Transactions tab or the Budget Smarter tab when I update the Budget Smarter process as well. What am I missing? All the other Fixed Expense amounts are working and showing up except for this one. Thanks.
I watched your video again. You mention not to go out beyond 3 years. Just curious as to why and how do we use it it beyond 3 years. Do we start over?
Can you show us how to add more expenses to the setup page? I have more expenses then there is fields to input them. So just need to learn how to be able to add more fields on the setup page and how to correctly change the formulas to include those extra expenses.

Thank you. I like the future forecasting updating with actuals. I plan to use this as a supplement to YNAB. I will load my summarized actual income and expenses at the category level rather than the full detail. I have used Excel for years and trust this spreadsheet and work process. I like YNAB being online and on my phone and for me the $100/yr subscription is a fair price for that connectivity. Thank you,

Probably be best to create a investment dashboard and import the relevant data to prevent the budget spreadsheet from getting too out of hand.

Having some issues using the template om my MAC. When updating the Budget smarter either som random dates from the last century 1923 appears or everything is erased. Guess it has something to do with the macro but is it not possible to change from PC to MAC when editing ?
This template is really excellent. I am glad I bought it. But I have a question about how to handle annual increases in say, subscription costs. I know you say that it best not to alter the set up figures once one gets going. And I think I can understand why - it would change the whole history too. But would it work to use the end date / start date ? For example, "Bookclub Subscription 2024" = $10 and have that end 31 Dec 2024, then when you know what the new price will be, add a new entry "Bookclub Subscription 2025" = $11 and have that run from 01 Jan to 31 Dec 2025? This would avoid having to update the Variable Transactions page manually every month for every regular payment, which over time as all the prices go up, would become burdensome?
Love the sheet. Lots of hard work that I totally appreciate since I don't have to do it myself. Does all the things I need, however, I have a few more Fixed Expenses than space allows on the set-up sheet. How can I add those fixed expenses (they are monthly) to the spreadsheet/workbook?

Hey i have a problem that now i got a new apparment at 23/08/2024 i will have a new rent. But the excell wont channge evan when i have a set end date for me old appartment any tips ?
The error i'm encountering, “Run-time error 438: Object doesn’t support this property or method”, typically occurs when you’re trying to use a property or method that doesn’t apply to the object you’re referencing. I get this error when i try to click on the "add Income" button
In my case, the error is likely occurring because you’re trying to use the Add2 method on the SortFields object of the Sort object. The Add2 method was introduced in Excel 2010 and may not be available in earlier versions of Excel. If you’re using an earlier version of Excel, you should use the Add method instead. Now if i do this, only 1 entry is added for each Income Source instead of everything like it should. Can you help?

Hi all, I've just purchased the excel template because it seemed like a useful tool to get my financials in line. I started adding my fix expenses and incomes then added both of them to the budget smarter and then update the tables on the dashboard. Now on my dashboard I don't get any options to filter for months and the only values that are showing is a blank blue button and a button with '00' written in it.
Any ideas how I can fix this issue?

NOTE: If you are downloading past 3/20/2023 you have to unblock the file through properties of file rather than the settings on XLS.

Hi, I am from the UK. Have messaged in Etsy but thought I’d message here as well. First of all thank you for your great RUclips content! Have used an old free template but have now brought this one. I have followed the guide for the budget smarter excel template. When I hit add income it does not put in all of the months and incomes on the fixed transactions page. Please help as unable to use? Also would there be a way to change the currency and date to sterling (£) and UK Date format?. Many thanks.

I'm having some trouble with the Excel template. The income isn't reflected in the BUDGET SMARTER tab (even after refreshing with all of the update buttons) and the dates of the transactions are showing 1/01/1900 and on. Please advise.

Same here when I first started using it. I restarted over and the 1900 date did not appear. It's very glitchy .
Will this template let me enter annual Required Minimum Distributions as income when they occur? Can I budget/track quarterly IRS tax payments? Also annual nontaxable gift income which I then use for mortgage principle only payment?

How do I make it work so that it project my budget in the future like you video demonstrates, and not stop after the end of the current month? I have enabled the Macros. Also, 3 of my 5 income sources wont automatically add up when I press 'Add Income'. I have for now added them as variable transaction income, but is there something I am doing wrong? Thanks.

Example
In Column B2 a have one date
for example 01 01.2023
In C3 i have another date
For example 04.02.2023
Now in column D2 for B2 and in D3 for C3 i want to calculate overdue.
Example D2 = 15.01.2023
D3 = 18.02.2023
In my case the overdue is 15 days after the dates from B2 and C3.
The problem is i don t know how to calculate the overdue because sometimes i have a date in column B and and in C in empty and sometimes i have the date in column C and column B remain empty. How i can put formula to calculate me the overdue in D considering that i can have the date in any of the columns. I hope I explained as well as I could. Thank you in advance

The Macros are not working. I followed the instructions..."Frome Microsoft Excel click on File; Click on Options; Click on Trust Center and then on Trust Center Settings; Click on Macro Settings and then toggle on "Enable VBA Macros" and "Enable Excel 4.0 Macros when VBA macros are enabled". Then press OK. I purchased the spreadsheet from ESTY. How can I fix so macros will work?

There are so many formulas in the background. Your option would be to put the extras on the variable expense tab.

Hi, is there another way to purchase the template? I am based in United Arab Emirates and am not able to purchase due to some payment issue with Etsy. Apple Pay and Card payments do not seem to work in Etsy since I was able to use both with my other online purchases.
Surround your code with the following:

this will speed up the process time and prevent the excel window from bouncing around when you click a custom button.

you have to enter it as two separate payments and select annually.

Hey. Just set up budget...looks good but I have a couple issues. The *VB situation as it applies to autosave gives me an error message and on the dashboard page, when I refresh I get a runtime error:1004. Please Help. I like this.

However, I've encountered the need to add more Fixed expenses (in the setup Sheet) than rows available. I tried adding an additional row in the "red table" by doing "shift cell below", but somehow the new rows added are completely ignored by the "addExpensesMacro".
Can I ask you what's the right way to add more rows to the Income/Expenses tables in the Setup Sheet?
You can't. I tried but realized they were ignored.

i purchased the google sheets version and it looks quite different. it does not have the set up tab and as far as i can tell no place to make and choose categories. is this because the demo you show in the video is only for excel? that should be more clear. this version is not what i wanted

I would really like to download this template, but I have a couple of questions I would like to ask . First, will this template download properly to and online office? I ask this question because I tried downloading something from Google Sheets but it didn't really transfer in tack the way it was in sheets. Second, does this provide a place for the use of credit card purchases because most of my budget is paid with credit card? Thanks!
This version is built for office in Microsoft Excel. It’s macro enabled so it won’t work very well in the online version. I’d recommend the google sheets version if you don’t have Excel. This version is built for your checking account but you could have a monthly estimated CC payment as a fixed expense.

Hi, I keep getting an error in Excel when I click on the Add Income button - Cannot run the macro ''Module3.addincome'. The macro may not be available in this workbook or all macros may be disabled. I have followed the If Template won't add Income/Expenses when you press the button but still having the same issue. What else would I need to do?

@@whyworksmarternotharder I just purchased the Excel version, but when I downloaded it, it opened in Google sheets. I have never used Google sheets until yesterday. Secondly I to am having the same issue. When I push "Add Income/Expenses", it just highlights the boxes. When I tried the macro directions it's given in the Excel, the one I bought, but when downloaded it came up in Google sheets, so I'm kind of at a stand still.

I actually prefer the Google sheets one. They accomplish the same thing. There is a video for the Google sheet version as well.

Hi,
I appreciate your work and understand the time and effort you put in to create these sheets however, there are a few issues you did not consider when you've put them up for SALE!
1 - Currency Toggle, this is a very complex sheet and very easy to mess it up, you've made a video where you've mentioned you can get build this spreadsheet from the ground but you have to put a few good hrs in, so we've paid and then you send us to read articles for hrs on how to change the currency. Not very nice, put yourself in customer's shoes!.
2 - Date Format, another problem, we use different date formats abroad, and again not easy to change due to the complexity of the spreadsheet!
These are just a few flaws I've encountered after spending a couple of hrs trying to figure out how to change the Date format and Currency so far, still scratching my head because it's not working as intended!
Maybe consider a short video showing people how to change these or wait a bit longer for other flaws to come in and then make one!
