I like the joker I like the animated series from Mark hamills joker but heath ledger empressed me more in the Nolan dark knight take on the character but I thought Jack Nicholson was good in his own way in 1989
The Killing Joke is about Jack becoming Joker, not Jack becoming a criminal mastermind. He obviously had time to become who he is after that but that's not the point of the book. It's just his origins and the one bad day he's trying to create for Gordon. It doesn't explain or want to explain why he's so good because that's not why this story exists. You can't say it doesn't make sense.
I’m still sticking to my guns Jack Nicholson is the best with Heath Ledger at 2nd and mark hamill as 3rd 4th Joaquin Phoenix and 5th the person who voiced him In Arkham Origins
Cesar Romero as the clown Jack nicholson as the gangster Heath Ledger as the anarchist Jared Leto as the joke Joaquin Phoenix as the psychopath MARK HAMILL AS THE JOKER
Seriously "Batman" and "Batman returns" are cruelly underrated. I love the dark knight trilogy, I love Ben affleck as Batman, and I can't wait for the Batman. Seriously if you had a Batman marathon, not including the animated films, watch Batman, Batman returns, Batman begins, the dark knight, and the dark knight rises( also the Batman of its out). Also stay away from Batman and robin and Batman forever. Trust me if you ever like Batman just a little, DO NOT WATCH THOSE FILMS, YOU WILL HATE YOURSELF AND BATMAN.
I actually think that Batman and Robin has merit. The problem is that the bad parts are so bad that it clouds everything else. The underlying sub-story with Alfred's illness is very touching, and Michael Gough has the most screentime out of all the films which is no bad thing. I could never get behind Batman Forever though. It was just middle of the road with not even any camp value.
Definitely watch TDK trilogy, but also BVS Ultimate Edition is also a good watch. Been affleck's Batman is underrated, and I love the fierce, angry, and jaded interpretation of that Batman (it's like The Dark Knight Returns comic Batman).
This was an important milestone for comic book films. For myself, and a whole generation of moviegoers in the late 80s. There had never been a Batman on film, or Joker, that represented the look of the early comics or the dark graphic novels that inspired Burton's vision. All we had seen before was the campy 60's version. 1989 was the 50th anniversary of the Batman comics. The timing, the casting, the haunting and music score by Danny Elfman. The first time we ever saw the batsuit in all black. The freaking batmobile was amazing, and still the best to this day. Nolan's movies are great, Snyder's vision of Batman is also great. This was and will always be the template. The original. The first blockbuster/ dark, comic book film. Give credit where credit is due and watch it. watch it in the dark with the volume loud. Always a fun experience for true bat-fan's. R.I.P. Prince. Bat-dance is still one of my favorite music videos. I hope you're Bat-dancing in heaven.
If I can't have the Joker then I will say Scarecrow is my favourite Batman villain. He's really underrated. I especially love the Arkham Knight Scarecrow, I thought John Noble did an awesome job and the look was great. I like Cillian Murphy's Scarecrow as well.
Same, he and Jack Skellington are the two reasons that make me want to get into the Halloween spirit when it comes around. Also gonna try and cosplay him for the next Comic Con.
For me, The Riddler is by far the best Batman villain EVER. And he is best portrayed in Batman: Arkham City (videogame), yeah I know it's not a real actor but still, go Riddler!!!
Really like this movie, BUT I still feel that Nolan did it much better. And yes I do like Keaton's performance a lot but I prefer Bale Batman Was not really a fan of Batman Returns though
+Ben Wasserman Plus you can't really compare the Jokers of Nolan and Burton, Heath Ledger had an out of this world performance. Jack Nicholson was pretty amusing but he brought nothing special to the role, it was almost like Jack just played himself while wearing a Joker costume.
LoN3wOlF5tudi0s You mean Burton......... and ya that's what I thought about Nicholson too. Great performance but it was Jack being his usual self on screen
Ben Wasserman Oh ya I fucked up... meant to write Burton (fixed now). I have lots of respect for Jack Nicholson and loved him in movies like The Shining and The Departed, where he really was great. But in Batman I don't think he reached his full potential.
@@Ian-hj4yt '92 was mediocre at best. '89 was great solely because of Nicholson's performance (although the Joker's motivations are questionable), but '92 doesn't have many redeeming qualities.
Cillian Murphy's Scarecrow will always be my favourite. And I loved how he was in all three Nolan movies, it really tied them together having a recurring villain.
The characters from the Burton films were actually terrifying but were made to be interesting. People will disagree but Jack Nicholson's Joker was better. I just couldn't get into Ledger's Joker. It's not that it was bad or anything, I just prefer the "comic book" tone to the Burton films/characters.
+Pip Piposo Yes, and then he proceeded to sledgehammer those themes into our faces so that no drooling member of the Idiot Brigade could POSSIBLY miss it. The Burton movies knew what subtlety is (ironic, considering how over-the-top they get). Nolan does not. That is why I can't stand his Dark Knight movies.
The first two Batman movies were classics and will always be my favorites just because I was raised with them but I do notice they haven't aged as well as I would like but I will always love them for what they are.
My personal rating to the series 1. Batman : (5/5) 2. Batman Returns : (4/5) 3. Batman Forever : (3/5) 4. Batman & Robin : (1/5) 5. Batman Begins : (4/5) 6. The Dark Knight : (5/5) 7. The Dark Knight Rises : (5/5)
My ratings for all the Batman movies: Batman 7.3/10 Batman Returns 7.7/10 Batman Forever 5.1/10 Batman and Robin 1/10 Batman Begins 8.9/10 The Dark Knight 9.9/10 The Dark Knight Rises 9/10
Jordan Caws 1989 Burton's Batman imho is the benchmark of all of Batman. Its the center of the past and the future of Batman. The perfect balance of the mainstream and the hardcore Batman fans, fantasy and science fiction. Stayed true to the original vision of its creator Bob Kane - which is very important for me as an author. Nolan's take is just a dissection and modernization of the 1989 movie's theme of "fear of freaks". PS. This is also the first Batman that got so much comparison to a stealthy ninja.
The Tim Burton movies are simply closer to the Batman mythos and what the characters are. they defined Batman for damn near 3 generations, and helped give Nolan a reference point for his trilogy. the Nolan movies aren't "better" in terms of story or character; they have better effects and DO explain backgrounds in more detail, but ultimately, they do less with more. Also, hey were MADE for an "edgier" time, so its to be expected that they have a more modern day appeal. Burton's movie is a classic, and has aged very well, even to this day
I like Tim Burton's movie more become they seem more like Superhero movies...he captures Gotham City so perfectly I love Chirstopher Nolan as a director but his Batman films just seem like normal crime drama with Batman and a couple of villians thrown in, they are very good movies and Christian Bale is one of my favorite actors but I perfer the Burton Batman films
Fuck what I said....The Dark Knight is easily the best Superhero movie ever made.... I just saw it for the first time in 2 years and I can admit when I'm wrong I still have to watch the Burton ones again tho.
Batman-8/10 Batman Returns: 7.5/10 Batman Forever: 4/10 Batman and Robin: 1/10 Batman Begins: 9/10 The Dark Knight: 10/10 The Dark Knight Rises: 8.5/10
Batman: 9/10 Batman Returns: 9/10 Batman Forever: 6/10 Batman and Robin: 1/10 Batman Begins: 7/10 The Dark Knight: 10/10 The Dark Knight Rises: 8/10 Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice: 7/10
Still would take this Batman over any of Nolan's. Loved heath ledger's joker but that was really the only thing TDK had going for IMO. Tried to hard to cram unnecessary characters into the story ...cops lawyers, city officials, two face etc etc. Hated the ending too.
Yess finally someone said it. I get it heath ledger is good, but when thats the only good thing about the movie not a good supporting cast. And bale's version of batman is laughable heath ledger pretty much was the only beams supporting this house metaphorically speaking.
I think we can all agree that Troy Baker is one of the best voice actors in the business right now. Most get type cast and use a very limited range of voices but he can be given almost any role and have a voice that matches it perfectly.
I LOVE the Nolan movies, and I saw this the other day for the first time, and it's a really good movie. That's what I love about Batman. He works in many different tones and styles
I just saw this one for the first time yesterday, and candidly, I was incredibly underwhelmed. So many of my friends have said this portrayal of Batman and the Joker were their favourites, but I personally didn’t see anything special about either of them. Jack Nicholson did a great job, but he played Jack Nicholson in joker makeup. And I found Michael Keaton’s character to be bland and uninteresting. I found the story, while fun, predictable. I liked how Tim Burton developed the city of Gotham, but overall I think the movie came across as kind of campy. I really wanted to like this movie, but I was disappointed. I’d rate it a 6/10. That being said, I understand why people absolutely love this movie, and I can respect the influence it subsequently had on batman films.

The only Joker that counts is Mark Hamil's Joker. All others are second to him. Animated series FTW!
I thought the same thing, then I saw Heath Ledger. He is the Joker fully realized. He didn't need to use cheap props that are actually deadly weapons, although it was pretty cool when he did that, but Ledger actually freaking killed people and his weapon of choice was real methods of killing (guns, explosions, etc.) but doing it in a way that showed a hilariously dark irony to life. He is the Joker without sugar coating for children
Batman the movie (1966) 6.5/10 Batman (1989) 10/10 Batman Returns 8/10 Batman Forever -5/10 Batman and Robin -100/10 Batman Begins 6.9/10 The Dark Knight 10/10 The Dark Knight Rises 7/10 Batman Gotham Knight 7/10 Batman The Dark Knight Returns (parts 1 and 2) 9/10 Batman Year One 8/10 Batman Under the Red Hood 8/10 Batman Mystery of the Batwoman 6.5/10 (I feel it's a bit underrated ) P.S. I haven't seen Mask of the Phantasm yet and this is just my opinion everyone's will differ
Agreed But Give 1 more point to begins and the dark knight rises both were great and batman gotham knight and batman year one are they movie you listed comic book or what?????
+The Brawler everything from Batman Gotham Knight downwards were animated straight to DVD movies, which are actually pretty good, you can find them on sites like Amazon or eBay
Tim Burtons characters and all actors and his batman movies were way better by the way Jack Nicholson is the best joker hands down and Michael Keaton the best batman ever
Jack Nicholson said of his role, "The thing I like about The Joker is that his sense of humor is completely tasteless." He later said The Joker was one of his favorite roles he played.
Obviously Joker, he shows pure chaos and insanity and is pure evil. Whoever doesn't consider Joker as one of the top 5 batman villains or even top 5 comic book villains is probabky crazier than the Joker himself.
whats with the hate to the nolan trilogy? they are good films, my fav film of all time is the Dark Knight :) but i love this film and returns as well Jack Nicholson is great :) But im with jeremy on this one
It's what I call, Star Wars prequel syndrome. They're movies that don't deserve the hate they do but now, there's a (Lets hate on this) bandwagon that know one knows why they join it but they do to the point where it becomes public opinion and if you say otherwise, you become the target of extreme ridicule for appreciating a good story. I'm not saying I love the prequels but the hate they get is absurd and the hate people get for admitting they like it is absurd. I'm sorry for typing this much but this is something that genuinely angers me and I want to get the message out there before you all get blindsided.
They had an idea to do a 5th with harley quinn as jokers daughter not his love interest that would've flopped like batman and Robin did I want to see harley quinn in a batman movie
My favorite Batman flick. Saw it in theaters 30 years ago when I was 10 yrs old. Woah. I still watch it regularly. It’s in my Top 10 favorite movies all time...👍
Batman 8/10 Batman returns 9/10 Batman forever 6/10 Batman and robin 6/10 Batman begins 8/10 The dark knight 7/10 Doesn't get a full 10 because the fact Heath ledger "The joker" appearing and speaking of how he got the those scars with a story doesn't cut it. With Jack Nicholson joker at least did show how he became the joker. The dark knight rises 5/10. In my opinion if bane was like the animated series with tubes attached to him. That movie would of been a 10/10.
This will always be MY Batman. Nolan's Batman is fine, but it's not my Batman. This movie has everything I want it to be. Good action, good dialogue, awesome production design, and a twisted sense of humor that really NEEDS to be in something as insanely silly as Batman inherently is. I mean, a guy dressing up as a bat to fight crime is a pretty damn silly idea at its heart. Nolan's films don't feel like Batman movies; they feel like excellent crime thrillers with Batman in them. Enjoyable enough, but I will always prefer the more campy, but still also serious enough, take on the genre. That's why I'm excited to see Suicide Squad. It seems to have the same kind of idea in mind.
Do you realize that Batman's entire conception lies in the crime genre? The sole reason why he became Batman is because he was a victim of crime, and even one of his best pals is a FUCKING police officer. He was inspired by noir heroes like The Shadow and Dick Tracy. So yeah, excuse Nolan movies for being crime movies. Because, you know, the last time when Batman movies tried to move away from the crime aspect of the character, they were so good, right?
Not really. They are outstanding movies but they did not get eh characters "right", especially Batman. The Joker was a different take but one for the better since it was just a really good performance. Batman wasnt much of a detective, didnt use much of the usual utility belt stuff but more things he had to use for special cases and he was never shown to have the genius intelect were used to having. Dont get me started on the voice, how short he is and how physically unimposing he was. Bane was also a very different take. I like Bane especially when he talked and was straight up a badass but it didnt feel like Bane but more of a new villain. Like I said the Movies are great and I love them but they didnt get the characters "right", not like it mattered much because of how awesome the movies were especially TDK aka Joker so it didnt really harm them much.
batman was mainly better in the original. He was unassuming, you never could point him out as batman because he doesn't seem to be batman. also he could easily intimidate someone, while christian bale tried to intimidate yet you could tell he couldn't naturally intimidate. also less back story for batman is more interesting.
redha elkuakljdal Christian Bale while a great actor was neither a tue douchy playboy as Bruce Wayne or intimidated and put fear in peooples eyes as Batman.
Aaron Grace I gotta say this you have to give credit to the Tim Burton Batman's well just the 1st one, at the time that's all we had as a darker Batman aside from the comics, of course your are gonna like the Nolan Batman because maybe you saw them first, but I'm not sure if you did, as far as the comics some was different and some were the same, although the joker has many different origins in the comic book the killing joke he did fall into a vat of chemicals, but he never murder Bruce's parents. Everyone has there own interpretation from comics and movies, and as far as the cartoon goes well Batman animated series was base on the Tim Burton's Batman from the music to the setting and tone on how dark the cartoon was. You are entitled to your own opinion but you gotta give him some credit.
+Retroreviews Plus when he interrogated Bane I couldn't stop laughing. "WHEWSH TEH CHREGGA!?!?! WERASHET!?!?! U NEVAGAI VET 2 ANUDUNERI SHAWTISHEN!!! WERASHET!?!?! WHEWSH TEH CHREGGA!?!?!" He's also so lazy he had to steal one of Bane's quotes.

When the original Batman came out in 1989 I saw it 12 times in the movie theaters. Fast forward 2005 and Batman Begins absolutely demolished 89 Batman crushed it into pieces
+Ikrani Keaton was more than adequate for his time. Bale was a much better batman/Bruce Wayne and the that's a fact. Ben will take it to a whole new level and bring us the definitive.
HELLASgate7 I disagree. I feel Bale took Batman to Frank Miller territory: memorable, compelling, but hardly interesting or nuanced. Bale never intimidated me the way Keaton did, and Keaton is the only live-action Batman who could actually smile and still be cool. Bale always seemed a little lost and confused, and with the number of times he got tricked in the Nolan movies, he just doesn't leave as good an impression as Michael Keaton or Kevin Conroy, who were always in control of a situation.
Back in the 70's my parents took us on a road trip to Disney and they bought me a bunch of comics for the ride. One of them was a giant 'Dark Knight Detective' that was beautifully illustrated and introduced me to my favorite, creepy villain other than the Joker..Ra's al Ghul and his Lazarus Pit. I wish I still had the issue and knew which one it was I used to imagin the movie. I pictured Ricardo Montabon as Ras, and Steve Garvy as Bruce Wayne.
My favorite Joker ever is the one from "The Dark Knight Returns 2". That voice and that kinda homo-erotic vibe going on with him just makes him soooo much more creepy and menacing, best Joker ever. The Joker in "Red Hood" is also very good, there is this scene with the glass cup, made me laugh so hard, gotta love the Joker. I am Fanboying out here xD
The one in "The Dark Knight Returns Part 2" kinda just had an unnerving feel. Joker is meant to have that, but he's also meant to be having fun. Also, his voice really sucked. The Joker in "The Red Hood" was really good, though.
If I had to choose which movie was better (Batman or The Dark Knight) I have to go with Batman. Why? 1) Michael Keaton is the better Batman. No throat cancer. No DUH face. And my most important reason: He's the only Batman that can smile and still look threatening. 2) In the Dark Knight everything was analyzed. 3) It was more smooth flowing and had that long shot of the bat mobilize
John Tran The original Batman should be higher, it's not "Nolan" good, but it's damn close, and much, much better than Returns. No way those two should share a 6/10.
+Brandough Crox i agree 100% the Nolan Batman movies just didnt feel right to me and the last one made the dark knight rises my gosh that was a chore to sit thru, i like the older ones cuz it still had a comic book feel and vibe to them.... and I want a batmobile not a freakin tank/military looking vehicle
There is a reason why nolan didn't make his movies comic book styled, they were movies, not animation. Why would you adapt it from the comic book to make it comic book like? Thats why i liked the nolan versions best, they are as realistic as possible. You know... considering it's A Batman movie. More depth than Tim Burton. I am a BIG fan of Tim Burton don't get me wrong.
Why would you make everything realistic? It's a comic book, just stay true to what the Batman universe is supposed to be. It's way better. Nothing wrong with what Nolan did, it's, for me, the best trilogy ever but I want a Batman movie that is more faithful to the source material.
Then why adapt it to a movie or (Convert it to one) if you just want it to be comic book like, make the movie adaptations more realistic. Because you have animations already close to the comics themselves. If you want comic style more on the movies then you aren't really a comic book fan, because the comics them selves aren't enough... So what Nolan did was create a scenario, "what if The Batman was in the real world" So everything Batman did could be possible in real life, not comic book like. To me if you are real Batman fan then more realism would satisfy you, while you still can watch the comics and animation when crave more of the "source material" as you described it...
Actually, I"m going to go with Oswald Cobblepot aka The Penguin in the t.v. series GOTHAM. But then, we've gotten to know him pretty well. Same with Selina Kyle, the catwoman to be, in the same show. In movies however I did adore Keith Ledger's Joker as well as Danny DeVito's Penguin, the latter for being such a total Tim Burton take on the character.
I just rewatched it this week after I finished watching The Killing Joke (I loved the comic and how both films are heavily based on it). It was awesome, I forgot how awesome it was, and picked up on little things I missed in my youth.
The 1989 Batman was about Batman just starting out. He'd only made a few rooftop appearances before Commissioner Gordon spotted him and he didn't know if Batman was a good guy or a bad guy. Michael Keaton's suit in that movie is my favorite! Body armorcthat mimicked human muscles and the mask was perfect! The neck Claire's out to the shoulders and regardless how impractical that was - the effect was fantastic - and that is what the bat suit was all about - the effect! The BATMOBILE in that movie was totally awesome! You knew it belonged to Batman at first glance! While the Nolan BATMOBILE DID cool things and looked cool - it did not look like the proprietary equipment Batman had. It looked like what it was - a military vehicle repurposed for Batman. And while I love the way Nolan's Batman used his cloak to glide ( meat in did for a few seconds in his second Batman movie) through the air, something I thought Batman should have done since I was a kid. Also, the Nolan Batman identified Batman. We saw how his gear was created and while interesting it destroyed the mystery. Don't get me wrong, I love the Nolan movies better than any of the others, but I will give points to the 1989 version for the reasons I stated.
Nah, you're not alone. Batman and Batman Returns still sit at the top of the hill. Nolan's trilogy is very, very good but it feels like a "what if" - what if someone really did become Batman? It's very grounded in reality and that's cool, but it sacrifices a lot of what makes Batman work - the fantasy/sci-fi of the comics. So I'll always prefer the Burton movies because they were closer in spirit to the Batman comics.
I actually love this movie. I remember seeing it as a kid when it first came out. I remember collecting the cards, the comic and I bought it immediately on DVD. In fact, if memory serves correct, I think I had 2 copies of it. As a result, I look upon this movie like it's an old friend. I can't resist its charm and I thought Keaton was an excellent Batman. Definitely better than Bale, in my personal opinion. I give this movie a 10/10. Is it better than Dark Knight? I want to say no, but if I was presented with the choice to watch either one, I'd go with this one.
+crawlingninjabear As someone who only saw this movie about 2 years ago AND as someone whose first Batman movie was The Dark Knight, I can assure you, sir, that this movie does not need nostalgia goggles to be good. In fact, without the nostalgia goggles, it's better than any Bale-man Nolan has ever made.
Jacob Sabastian Thank you, not to mention the forgettable theme by hans zimmer vs danny elfman's score which is very rememberable and his score is amazing, wish they stuck to that score, same thing with john william's theme for superman.
Yes yes yes absolutely elfman's score is fantastic zimmer is underwhelming I barely notice it in the movie! Nick arundel from the arkham games however is my favorite batman music period.
Still prefer this movie as my fav and Batman Returns as my second fav. But that's me. I really like the dark, artistic-noir setting Burton sets up. And Keaton is awesome portraying the different sides of Bruce Wayne. Plus the villain casting for both films is still arguable the best villain casting in ANY super hero film(s).
Dark Knight rises was pure garbage, dont care what ppl say. I consider it a disgrace. I like Michal's Batman, I mean he is Batman, he even has a line that says it all: "IM BATMAN". Oh and BTW, generally Capt Gordon does not work with Batman at the start of the story, he actually works against him in most of the versions.
Dark Knight Rises was a masterpiece. "Dont care what people say" Lol I wonder why. What makes your persobal opinion more valid than renowned film critics and movie buffs jackass?
It kinda baffles me that Pat Hingle who played Commissioner Gordon went on to play the same role in three more movies and be one of only two actors to appear in the same role in all four Batman movies of the Burton/Schumacher series. I mean good for him ...but he really wasn't that memorable. With Michael Gough (Alfred) you at least somewhat understand why he returned to the role three more times.
Oh my gosh, the beginning to your video is pure gold. lol
No Kidding!! That was perfect!
Casey Smith I played that part like 5 times now get out of here
I like the joker I like the animated series from Mark hamills joker but heath ledger empressed me more in the Nolan dark knight take on the character but I thought Jack Nicholson was good in his own way in 1989
Mark Hamil's Joker from the animated series. Nobody can pull off that laugh like he can.
Except Bryan Cranston
Troy Baker comes pretty close. He's the closest we're getting as Hamil passing the torch, since the Joker voice hurts his throat so he needs to stop.
Ferrohazard Bryan Cranston would be better as Gordon, I'd like to see Rutger Hauer as the joker.
mraaronhd agreed
Cesar Romero-clown
Jack Nicholson-thug
Heath Ledger-maniac
Jarred Leto-psychopath
All added together-Mark Hamill A.K.A The Joker
@@Bumra he was amazing in all the arkham games
I thought both Jokers were excellent. Jack was the funny, sarcastic one. Heath was the dark, sinister one. I like both Batmans as well.
Nicholson and Keaton were superior though
Let's just say, Ledger's joker was the sadistic, mysterious one, while Nicholson's joker was true to the comics
Legitimate Karma Exactly.
What about Cesar Romerez?
Nightsilver I think you mean Cesar Romero.
I LOVE how they portrayed the Joker as a gangster in this movie.
Indeed. This movie had the balls to throw that Red Hood stuff out for something deserving of The Joker's origin.
Who is here after Joaquin Phoenix's Joker?

That was a killer foreshadow right there! It’s like both DC and Warner Bros. listened to him.

Funny how he said “call this movie joker”
If I can't have the Joker then I will say Scarecrow is my favourite Batman villain. He's really underrated. I especially love the Arkham Knight Scarecrow, I thought John Noble did an awesome job and the look was great. I like Cillian Murphy's Scarecrow as well.
+iReece4498 Scarecrow was amazing in Arkham Knight!
Same, he and Jack Skellington are the two reasons that make me want to get into the Halloween spirit when it comes around. Also gonna try and cosplay him for the next Comic Con.
My fave is Harley.
Scarecrow is very awesome but he sucked in Batman Begins (2005) but that's not the character's fault.
scarecrow was awsm in the arkham games! first time playing asylum I was terrified when he appeared out of nowhere
Killer Croc in the animated series. "One time I almost crushed Batman with a rock! What? It was a really big rock."
I love that villain
This is a lie. That was Batman in disguise who actually said that.
For me, The Riddler is by far the best Batman villain EVER. And he is best portrayed in Batman: Arkham City (videogame), yeah I know it's not a real actor but still, go Riddler!!!
Same
What an intro.
Really like this movie, BUT I still feel that Nolan did it much better. And yes I do like Keaton's performance a lot but I prefer Bale Batman
Was not really a fan of Batman Returns though
You can't like the 89 movie and dislike the 92 one
@@Ian-hj4yt '92 was mediocre at best. '89 was great solely because of Nicholson's performance (although the Joker's motivations are questionable), but '92 doesn't have many redeeming qualities.
The joker is my favorite villain, Heath for live action, Hamill for voice and animation
Cillian Murphy's Scarecrow will always be my favourite. And I loved how he was in all three Nolan movies, it really tied them together having a recurring villain.
Batman (1989) was Awesometacular!
I still have to give an edge to Batman when compared to Nolan's Dark Knight for one reason...The Batmobile.
And the music score, casting, effects, story, director, bat suit, joker, and batwing
Red Who no
+Jesse Redfield
That is not how you spell "Yes," sir.
@@gaz9434 I only agree with Music and effects lol. The story on all of Nolan’s films is vastly superior, and so is the casting.
Jeremy that intro was awesome
The characters from the Burton films were actually terrifying but were made to be interesting.
People will disagree but Jack Nicholson's Joker was better. I just couldn't get into Ledger's Joker. It's not that it was bad or anything, I just prefer the "comic book" tone to the Burton films/characters.
+Pip Piposo
Yes, and then he proceeded to sledgehammer those themes into our faces so that no drooling member of the Idiot Brigade could POSSIBLY miss it. The Burton movies knew what subtlety is (ironic, considering how over-the-top they get). Nolan does not. That is why I can't stand his Dark Knight movies.
Agreed, for all we know heath ledger's joker could be a crazy guy who has makeup on.
"she shit a chicken" that is why I watch JeremyJahns, god he's funny.
Hahahahahaha
I like both Burton's Batman films and the Nolan films.
Good for you
I like Heath ledgers joker because he has this side to him that we still don't fully understand and I think that's kick ass
I just watched this movie last night. Batman killed just as many people if not more people than the joker did. Still a good movie tho
There is more bad guys than good guys so that makes sense...
The first two Batman movies were classics and will always be my favorites just because I was raised with them but I do notice they haven't aged as well as I would like but I will always love them for what they are.
Batman 10/10
Batman Returns 9/10
Batman Forever 5/10
Batman & Robin 1/10
Batman Begins 9.8/10
The Dark Knight 10/10
The Dark Knight Rises 9.9/10
Bam98 I can tell you have actually seen the Tim Burton ones just by your ranking.
Batman and robin only 1 what
I’d give Batman 89 a 8 or a 7 tbh. And Batman Begins a 10
My personal rating to the series 1. Batman : (5/5) 2. Batman Returns : (4/5) 3. Batman Forever : (3/5) 4. Batman & Robin : (1/5) 5. Batman Begins : (4/5) 6. The Dark Knight : (5/5) 7. The Dark Knight Rises : (5/5)
Joker from 1989 is my favorite!
My ratings for all the Batman movies:
Batman 7.3/10
Batman Returns 7.7/10
Batman Forever 5.1/10
Batman and Robin 1/10
Batman Begins 8.9/10
The Dark Knight 9.9/10
The Dark Knight Rises 9/10
Red Who not my fault they're the best Batman movies.
The dark knight rises is the best.
Jordan Caws The Dark Knight 10/10*
Jordan Caws What about Batman 1966? BTW how do you have 80 subs but you don't even make content? XD
Superhero movies are at their best when there something else though.
Fuck what I said....The Dark Knight is easily the best Superhero movie ever made.... I just saw it for the first time in 2 years and I can admit when I'm wrong I still have to watch the Burton ones again tho.
DreDaDon__ Okey Dokey
Bale is a good actor, but garbage as Batman. Burton Film wins!
DjJokerr He was not 'garbage" by any definition of the word.

Mark Hamill as the Joker, Batman: The Animated Series
Still would take this Batman over any of Nolan's. Loved heath ledger's joker but that was really the only thing TDK had going for IMO. Tried to hard to cram unnecessary characters into the story ...cops lawyers, city officials, two face etc etc. Hated the ending too.
Well said
It was to make it more realistic
Yess finally someone said it. I get it heath ledger is good, but when thats the only good thing about the movie not a good supporting cast. And bale's version of batman is laughable heath ledger pretty much was the only beams supporting this house metaphorically speaking.
+snake I's
Screw realism, gimme some Smilex!
*****
You really think, after everything Man of Steel did with Superman, that Snyder's going to be 100% faithful to the Batman comics?
My favourite villain is joker and I think Hamill is the true joker
Amen brother. But you have to admit Troy Baker is doing him justice.
MrMyster1ous
agreed
I think we can all agree that Troy Baker is one of the best voice actors in the business right now. Most get type cast and use a very limited range of voices but he can be given almost any role and have a voice that matches it perfectly.
Oh, certainly!
Batman 9.5/10
Batman Returns 9/10
Batman Forever 5/10
Batman & Robin 2/10
Batman Begins 8/10

Richard at the Movies HD still -9001/10
the dark knight 10/10
Nicholson is the best Joker
Batman Returns is my FAVORITE!!!!
Scarecrow from the Arkham Games. He's so terrifying.
Favorite Batman movie.
Heath ledger
I thought the same thing, then I saw Heath Ledger. He is the Joker fully realized. He didn't need to use cheap props that are actually deadly weapons, although it was pretty cool when he did that, but Ledger actually freaking killed people and his weapon of choice was real methods of killing (guns, explosions, etc.) but doing it in a way that showed a hilariously dark irony to life. He is the Joker without sugar coating for children
my favourite Batman villain is probably the scarecrow, yeah he's not to interesting for most people but I like his design
I like the Arkham Knight scarecrow best out of all his incarnations
COUNT COOLRIDER yep, he's the best! But I miss the weird scarecrow merry go round from arkham asylum
Batman the movie (1966) 6.5/10
Batman (1989) 10/10
Batman Returns 8/10
Batman Forever -5/10
Batman and Robin -100/10
Batman Begins 6.9/10
The Dark Knight 10/10
The Dark Knight Rises 7/10
Batman Gotham Knight 7/10
Batman The Dark Knight Returns (parts 1 and 2) 9/10
Batman Year One 8/10
Batman Under the Red Hood 8/10
Batman Mystery of the Batwoman 6.5/10 (I feel it's a bit underrated )
P.S. I haven't seen Mask of the Phantasm yet and this is just my opinion everyone's will differ
I 100% agree
Agreed But Give 1 more point to begins and the dark knight rises both were great and batman gotham knight and batman year one are they movie you listed comic book or what?????
+The Brawler everything from Batman Gotham Knight downwards were animated straight to DVD movies, which are actually pretty good, you can find them on sites like Amazon or eBay
Samuel Jones Yeah Thanks I really Like Under the Red Hood And Son Of Batman.
Watch mask of the phantasm it's great same with sub zero batman
This Batman Movie and This Joker.
That's my favorite Joker origin story enough said.
Period.
Jack Nicholson, is the Joker.
Agreed. Keaton is also batman
Tim Burtons characters and all actors and his batman movies were way better by the way Jack Nicholson is the best joker hands down and Michael Keaton the best batman ever
Best Joker is Heath Ledger.
Plain and Simple.
Jack Nicholson said of his role, "The thing I like about The Joker is that his sense of humor is completely tasteless." He later said The Joker was one of his favorite roles he played.
Obviously Joker, he shows pure chaos and insanity and is pure evil. Whoever doesn't consider Joker as one of the top 5 batman villains or even top 5 comic book villains is probabky crazier than the Joker himself.
why are you so serious ? let me put a smile on your Face - JK
mark hamill in the animated series
Gopal Sangra Best Joker voice ever!!
No way this video is 12 years old. I remember the day it was posted.
whats with the hate to the nolan trilogy? they are good films, my fav film of all time is the Dark Knight :) but i love this film and returns as well Jack Nicholson is great :) But im with jeremy on this one
Some people don't like Nolans form of story telling, I think it is supposed to be a character study.
what do you mean by character study? :)
RetroBailey
Not too sure, I just hear that term associated with Nolan before. I think it has something to do with how they are characterised.
He takes more of a look at the psychological side of things and their effects thats what Nolan is renown for doing if thats what you mean
I gotta say my personal favourite villain is Harley Quinn from the Animated Series. She was quirky and fun but also complex.
I dig crazy chicks too :)
It’s in my Top 10 favorite movies all time...👍
Same here I absolutely love this movie
heath ledger and arkham joker
Mr. Freeze and Penguin in Arkham City were pretty incredible villains in those games!
Batman Forever- 4/10
Batman and robin- 2/10
Batman Begins- 8/10
The Dark Knight- 10/10
The Dark Knight Rises- 9/10
rises would be like a 7 to me
Batman 8/10
Batman returns 9/10
Batman forever 6/10
Batman and robin 6/10
Batman begins 8/10
The dark knight 7/10 Doesn't get a full 10 because the fact Heath ledger "The joker" appearing and speaking of how he got the those scars with a story doesn't cut it. With Jack Nicholson joker at least did show how he became the joker.
The dark knight rises 5/10. In my opinion if bane was like the animated series with tubes attached to him. That movie would of been a 10/10.
Damn! I love the opening so much I've played it 3 times this morning.
Afiq Nordin Couldn't agree more
Do you realize that Batman's entire conception lies in the crime genre? The sole reason why he became Batman is because he was a victim of crime, and even one of his best pals is a FUCKING police officer. He was inspired by noir heroes like The Shadow and Dick Tracy. So yeah, excuse Nolan movies for being crime movies. Because, you know, the last time when Batman movies tried to move away from the crime aspect of the character, they were so good, right?
this is my favorite Batman film of all time, and i honestly think it outdoes the Nolan entries.
+Kyle Roberts I completely disagree. The Nolan ones told better stories
+Spencer Malley thus why I said it's my favorite. i couldn't care less about your preference.
Kyle Roberts I'm not saying how I think you should feel, I'm simply stating my opinion
I Think Batman returns is better
I believe The Dark Knight Rises is superior. just my opinion though
Batman: 4/5 _ Batman Returns: 2/5 _ Batman Forever: 3/5 _ Ratman & Robin: 1/5
Batman Begins: 5/5 _ The Dark Knight: 5/5 _ The Dark Knight Rises: 5/5
Batman 10/10
Batman Returns 7/10
Batman Forever 7.5/10
Batman & Robin 1/10
Batman Begins 8/10
The Dark Knight 10/10
The Dark Knight Rises 9/10
After watching the Tim Burton Batman movies, I can say that I prefer the Nolan Batman movies more. Nolan got the tone and the characters right.
Aaron Grace It wasnt really a Batman more than it was a Joker movie. A bad Joker story but Jack was really good as always.
Aaron Grace
I gotta say this you have to give credit to the Tim Burton Batman's well just the 1st one, at the time that's all we had as a darker Batman aside from the comics, of course your are gonna like the Nolan Batman because maybe you saw them first, but I'm not sure if you did, as far as the comics some was different and some were the same, although the joker has many different origins in the comic book the killing joke he did fall into a vat of chemicals, but he never murder Bruce's parents. Everyone has there own interpretation from comics and movies, and as far as the cartoon goes well Batman animated series was base on the Tim Burton's Batman from the music to the setting and tone on how dark the cartoon was. You are entitled to your own opinion but you gotta give him some credit.
This movie was one of my favorite batman movie. I even thought it was better than the dark knight.
I can't stand Nolan's Joker and Throat Cancer Man.
+Matt Allen exactly , when i heard that voice Bale did im like wtf? jusy thought it was lame, and the last one the dark knight rises.omg BORING!
+Retroreviews Plus when he interrogated Bane I couldn't stop laughing.
"WHEWSH TEH CHREGGA!?!?! WERASHET!?!?! U NEVAGAI VET 2 ANUDUNERI SHAWTISHEN!!! WERASHET!?!?! WHEWSH TEH CHREGGA!?!?!"
He's also so lazy he had to steal one of Bane's quotes.
wow only one who doesnt like heaths joker at all...

batman 1989 10/10
batman returns 7.5/10
batman forever 4/10
batman and robin 1/10
batman begins 10/10
the dark knight 10/10
the dark knight rises 10/10
batman v superman 5.5/10
I'd put bvs as a 7/10
+Big Boss I rewatched all the films and I would give batman v superman a 6 and batman 1989 a 9
Batman and Robin doesn't even deserve a 1.
Batman V Superman 8.5/10, that a fact, deal with it.
Melo MVP batman and robin is so bad it is not even 1 maybe 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001
Jack Nicholson joker ftw!!!
Michael Keaton coulde be as the joker
That beginning was pure GOLD!! LOL!!
Batman 1989 is an A plus
batman 1966: 10/10
batman 1989: 10/10
batman returns: 10/10
batman forever: 6/10
batman and robin: 1/10
batman begins: 8/10
the dark knight: 10/10
the dark knight rises: 9/10
catwoman: negative 100/10
Batman V Superman would be a 8.9 for me!
Catwoman? Sounds like a brain tumor .... What is that?
When the original Batman came out in 1989 I saw it 12 times in the movie theaters. Fast forward 2005 and Batman Begins absolutely demolished 89 Batman crushed it into pieces
+HELLASgate7
Heartily disagree on the grounds that Michael Keaton was actually intimidating.
+Ikrani I find that notion laughable. he looks nothing like Batman and never did
HELLASgate7
Neither does Christian Bale. And at least Keaton kept his dignity about him and didn't shout every other line of dialog.
+Ikrani Keaton was more than adequate for his time. Bale was a much better batman/Bruce Wayne and the that's a fact. Ben will take it to a whole new level and bring us the definitive.
HELLASgate7
I disagree.
I wish I still had the issue and knew which one it was
I used to imagin the movie. I pictured Ricardo Montabon as Ras, and Steve Garvy as Bruce Wayne.
Favorite batman villain- ras al ghul, the Liam neson version from batman begins
He didn´t really do much though....
We all are bro! XD
The one in "The Dark Knight Returns Part 2" kinda just had an unnerving feel. Joker is meant to have that, but he's also meant to be having fun. Also, his voice really sucked. The Joker in "The Red Hood" was really good, though.
Jack Nicholson. Best actor ever. Awesome in this movie, The Shining, and much else
Batman 6/10
Batman returns 6/10
Batman Forever 1/10
Batman and Robin -1/10
Batman Begins 9/10
The Dark Knight 10/10
The Dark Knight Rises 9/10
god bless your soul
John Tran I agree with this list completely!
John Tran The original Batman should be higher, it's not "Nolan" good, but it's damn close, and much, much better than Returns. No way those two should share a 6/10.
22steve5150 7/10?
The Scorpion to me it's a 9, but....anything higher than 6 is okay by me
personally bigger fan of this one compared to christopher nolan
+Retroreviews Plus yeah you are a wrong
My favorite Joker is Mark Hamill
Actually, I"m going to go with Oswald Cobblepot aka The Penguin in the t.v. series GOTHAM. But then, we've gotten to know him pretty well. Same with Selina Kyle, the catwoman to be, in the same show. In movies however I did adore Keith Ledger's Joker as well as Danny DeVito's Penguin, the latter for being such a total Tim Burton take on the character.
Jeremy, can you only laugh like this on your videos from now on? Thanks.
batman 89 is the best batman movie!
still the best live action Batman movie
What? No.
I just rewatched it this week after I finished watching The Killing Joke (I loved the comic and how both films are heavily based on it). It was awesome, I forgot how awesome it was, and picked up on little things I missed in my youth.
+CORBIN The Dark Knight? Better joker. Better Batman. Better story. Better Bruce Wayne
Paul Brown can't you accept his opinion.
Mr. Symbiote. his opinion is wrong
I think I'm the only one that prefered this movie and returns, to the overrated The Dark Knight trilogy.
+Tetsuo Shima
Rest assured, you're not.
+Megaman ---- I do too.
+Megaman Me three
stephano plaza
And you sound like a paper-skinned jackwad who can't handle a differing opinions.
Batman: 10/10
Batman Returns: 9/10
Batman Forever: 4/10
Batman & Robin: 1/10
Batman Begins: 9/10
The Dark Knight: 9.5/10
The Dark Knight Rises: 7/10
Why 7 for the dark knight rises?
Plot-holes, bad fighting choreography, and Bale's voice.
+11kingsmash you have no idea how wrong you are. Without that movie, there would be no Nolan movies
I'd give DNR an 8.5
And TDN deserves a big, fat 10
The dark Knight is a 11
Batman: 9.0
Batman Returns: 7.0
Batman Forever: 6.5
Batman and Robin: 2.0
Batman Begins: 9.5
The Dark Knight: 10
The Dark Knight Rises: 8.0
I actually love this movie. I remember seeing it as a kid when it first came out. I remember collecting the cards, the comic and I bought it immediately on DVD. In fact, if memory serves correct, I think I had 2 copies of it. As a result, I look upon this movie like it's an old friend. I can't resist its charm and I thought Keaton was an excellent Batman. Definitely better than Bale, in my personal opinion. I give this movie a 10/10. Is it better than Dark Knight? I want to say no, but if I was presented with the choice to watch either one, I'd go with this one.

As someone who only saw this movie about 2 years ago AND as someone whose first Batman movie was The Dark Knight, I can assure you, sir, that this movie does not need nostalgia goggles to be good. In fact, without the nostalgia goggles, it's better than any Bale-man Nolan has ever made.
+Ikrani as you was watching this was you like now this is Batman? lol

Can you say that again with proper grammar? I sincerely have no idea what you're trying to say to me.
Batman 10/10
Batman Returns 10/10
Batman Begins 5/10
Dark Knight 5/10
Dark Knight Rises 5/10
Whole-heartedly agree Nolan is so overrated it kills me
Jacob Sabastian Thank you, not to mention the forgettable theme by hans zimmer vs danny elfman's score which is very rememberable and his score is amazing, wish they stuck to that score, same thing with john william's theme for superman.
Yes yes yes absolutely elfman's score is fantastic zimmer is underwhelming I barely notice it in the movie! Nick arundel from the arkham games however is my favorite batman music period.
Batman begins deserves more than 6. It was better than Dark knight rises.
Yeah man. Although i would give Begins a 7.
Oh and BTW, generally Capt Gordon does not work with Batman at the start of the story, he actually works against him in most of the versions.
well after Batman 2 the rest were garbage. no need to bring those awful movies, i just want to forget batman's nipples, ok...
Jack you are full of Sh*t
Dark Knight Rises was a masterpiece. "Dont care what people say"
Lol I wonder why. What makes your persobal opinion more valid than renowned film critics and movie buffs jackass?
Yeah but in most Batman stories, Gordon even if he is working against Batman in the beginning is at least relevant to the story.
People can like what they like. But it doesn't change the fact that your an idiot. I won't hold that against you either
I swear to god, the beggining of your video is one of the best things I've saw since The Dark Knight
