- House of the Dragon will finally focus on the Hightower family.
Something Game of Thrones couldn't do in all 8 seasons.

What I'm gonna love of the House of the Dragon is that not only do they have a lot of material to work with, they have the COMPLETE material to work with. I'm really hoping we don't have to worry about a Game of Thrones repeat.
We do have to worry tho.
Tv shows nowadays ignore source materials and try to cater to the masses ( in got's case, feminism)
Despite GRRM being a feminist he's not overdoing it in the books but the showrunners are morons.
No deep dialogue however!
What material? lol it’s based on a table top summary of the past. Lol ASOIF is material but I get your meaning
@@paschalnwosu1657 agreed
Isn't this based on like 5 chapters?
I remember randall tarley said the high towers were as wealthy as the Lannisters. And could field an army 3 times larger than any Tyrell bannerman .and they haven't participated in the war of the 5 kings , plus a sizeable fleet, not as large as the redwyne fleet but close.
The Hightower’s can raise 25K men 1/4 of the reach’s army
@@billychops1280 he said "any Tyrell bannerman", as in any other individual lord. Not the entirety of the Reach
@@rapturescorner5964 I never said anything that would contradict that, the Hightower’s are a particular case because they themselves have vassal lords like costayne beesbury mullendore Cuy Hunt etc… all those men as well as the Hightower’s add up to 25K
@@billychops1280 my mistake, I read your reply as a rebuttal to the original content.
@@billychops1280 From what I’ve seen most high lords have vassal lords under them, or maybe I’m just thinking Ck2 agot mod logic but I think that’s the case in most regions.
Whycreate: "Only an A'hole would invade the peaceful oldtown."
Crow's Eye: "And I'll take that personally"
So he would definitely invade them
Hopefully they fend him off, in a legendary defense.
@@faisalkamal4319
True, hope he gets stopped though.
@@thalmoragent9344i believe lord Leyton Hightower has a secret up his sleeve
The Tyrell is pretty much the Kardashians of Westeros. They are rich and famous but nobody really take them seriously. Which is why they try so hard to weasel their way to greatness. House Hightower, Florent, Redwyne and Oakheart have better claim than the Tyrell for the Reach because now the Targaryen dynasty is gone.
Hence why House Tyrell is at the strongest ever since they become lords of the Reach , as lord Redwyne is Mace’s first cousin, best friend and brother in law, while Mace’s wife is from house Hightower, securing the support of both.
"Keeping up with the Tyrells"
they also have the token gay son, Loras
@@fandemusique4693 not really. Lord Redwyne is planning to kill the Tyrells and trying to give Highgarden to his son due to being closely related to the tyrells
@@marwanali4878 proof ?
Didn’t realize Lorian and Lothric were in game of thrones xD
My boys Lorian and Lothric just chilling in the title card.
Big fan of the Hightowers love the idea of a wizard in his tower spending his days looking over old books and scrolls.
Facts, the Hightowers are the best tbh.
It is always a good day when you get off work and you have a new whycreate GOT video to watch
Exactly
What I really want to know is how the Hightowers changed after the marriage of Rhaena Targaryen and Garmund Hightower and their six daughters. Like Alerie Hightower is described with Targaryen-like features so it would be fascinating to see how the genetics spread throughout the Reach
Like the Daynes the Hightower’s have Targaryen looking features even before they married with Targaryens. They seem to have a type of magic of their own like the Daynes. Jeorah thinks Dany looks like Lynesse and Barristan thinks Dany looks like Ashara. So both Hightower’s and Daynes have Valyrian features despite not having evidence they’re from Valyria.
they have always had those features, while alicent's portrayed as dark haired, the old king mistook her as one of his daughter so she likely was meant to be valerian like before the dark hair portrayed got popular. that's why all her kids are fair haired.
@@theinvisiblewoman6783
The Hightowers may have Dragonlord Ancestry from even before the Valyrians rose up as a race. As in, Empire of the Dawn Dragonlords.
I predict that the Hightowers will pull a wild 180 degree turn and defeat Euron Greyjoys unholy crusade against the mainland. But I don't think Euron will be killed, he will however be as mad and merciless as ever and offer his services to the desperate Cersei like we see in the books as a means of sheltering himself as he plots his revenge against the land that stopped him from becoming a God.
I think too. Since they are building to reveal something of the oldest House. Euron will probably get allied with the Others after losing his fleet because of Bran nemesis IMO.
Yeah, I hope Oldtown and the Hightowers will be able to properly defend themselves from Euron.
Dident know the prince of lothrics brother was in this series that's sick
There's a theory about that strange black stone which is also the material used for the sea stone chair found on the Iron Islands being connected to an ancient civilization from he sea called the "deep ones", half fish and half men.
Idk what the old man of oldtown is up to, but fingers crossed that mad lad Euron is the one creating some kind of lovecraftian horror for us to enjoy.
yeah, and that those same 'deep ones' built asshai! lots of weird black stone around the place lol
Lovecraft vibes
Always appreciating your Videos man, theyre great fun
I'm sure we'll know more about the House Hightower when Euron sacks Oldtown with his fleet.
Don't hold your breath
Is that going to happen in the books? I haven't read them yet, but Euron sacking Hightower would be interesting.
@@nightraven2975 Euron's fleet is in the vicinity of Old town so it's very likely. Also given the amount of knowledge, artifacts, and wealth in Old town, Euron's definitely going to attack.
@@knivesmillions2913
Hopefully Oldtown is ready to defend themselves, would be a shame for such a city to fall to Euron. Would hit Westeros pretty hard, such a grand history with heavy significance.
Wasn’t Marjory’s mother a Hightower?
Margaery's mother was Alerie Hightower who married Mace Tyrell
Yes, Queen Margaery’s mother was Lady Alerie Hightower and she was married to Mace Tyrell. In the books, she minor appearances and she even planned the wedding of her daughter to King Tommen. She was at the feast in the maidenvault and met Sansa Stark.
Love the Reach and Old Town so I'm here for these lore videos. So happy they'll be prominent players in HoD.
how are hightowers the antagonists in hotd when the show is about a house's civil war? the show literally starts with rhaenyra saying: ”there'no power that can break house targaryen except house targaryen itself”
both claimants in the war are targaryens, dragonriders who decided to make their personal property clash into everybody else's issue and then paid the price for it.
I love that you used lothric and lorian as a Comparison for the two brothers
Always happy to see a dark souls fan
can't wait to finally see them
Ooh I’m excited to see your video about the Starks in the “House of the Dragon”! There is quite a bit of mystery surrounding their house during this timeline 🤔
Cregan Stark is coming
I think sir otto Hightower wife is unknown but for his daughter to be mistaken as a long lost daughter of Saerah Targaryean.
I mean that would be a secrete and explain why they have Valerian features.
No the hightowers and daynes having such features is not related to the valyrians
Imagine if between books 5 and 6, HBO releases 8+5 seasons of television based on the books
Imagine the accurate future?
never gonna happen. Don’t know how this pipe dream is still a thing
@@turtleguyfan the pipe dream of winds being released?
@@qwopiretyu i guess that and HBO redoing any of the latter seasons of GoT cause of the fan reception
@@turtleguyfan I never said they would, just that 5 seasons of house of the dragon or other prequel shows would come out before winds finally does
You do have Gerold Hightower the lord commander of Aryes and his fathers kings guard, he died in the tower of joy guarding lyanna and Jon at Rheagars orders The white bull
Peremore reminds me so much of Bran! i feel like the two of them would have gotten along, with Bran giving Peremore descriptions of what he saw while warging and Peremore telling Bran where to look
The flashbacks the thumbnail gave me...
Why use the Twin Prince Lorian and Lothric from Dark Soul 3 lol😂
My word, you've earned yourself a new Patreon
Lol that line at the start.. never even realised haha
I think David and Dan would do a good job with House of the Dragon since the material is all there. They don't have to make things up. But I'm happy their gone.
I didn't think they were retuning as show runners
@@129jmaster they aren't
Nah. Dialog isn't their strong suit

amen. they made got more political than fantastical which is sad because they reduced all the fun we could've had
I hope there could be another cameo of Oldtown & the Hightower.
And when Daemon ascends the Hightower of Oldtown after fighting his way through the Grand Archi… The Citadel he confronts the Twin Princes Lorien and Lothric while Caraxes kindles the fading flame of Westros.
Lorian and lothric are hightowers👍
Would really love to see Bran the Builder on screen one day
I feel like they were definitely mentioned in Game of Thrones more than one time by Jorah Mormont. Wasn’t the mother of the Tyrells a Hightower? And wasn’t a Hightower guarding Leanna from Ned?
Yes. Lynesse (Jorah's wife) and Alerie (Mace's wife) are sisters and from the main Hightower line, daughters of Lord Leyton.
margaery and loras' mother is a hightower and ser gerold hightower is with ser arthur dayne as they both guarded the tower of joy to protect lyanna stark
Weren't the Gardener's the Kings of the Reach?
Before there were 7 Kingdoms there were hundreds, most of the ancient Houses in ASOIAF claimed Kingship at some point in the story with only a few notable exceptions like House Tarly.
These petty Kingdoms were either conquered (Example House Stark defeating the Red Kings of House Bolton and forcing them into vassalage) or through marriage alliances (House Hightower being brought under the Gardener Kings through marriages between the two Houses).
Other times Petty Kings would set aside their crowns for the greater good (the Umber Kings bending the knee to Brandon Stark during the Long Night in order to aid him in his war against the Others)
@@bannedaccount540 Think he said something about the Tyrells or Hightowers being kings of the Reach
The Hightowers are not the antagonists. Every single problem that occurs in House Of The Dragon can be traced back to that one fateful night between Rhaenyra, her Uncle and Ser Criston, and the Rhaenyra's deceitfulness afterwards.
I'd say it started when Alicent married Rhaenyras father
correct. it all started when viserys chose to remarry all the while knowing that his new childwife would potentially bear him sons that could challenge his decision in making rhaenyra heir.
it can be traced back to the succession crisis that king viserys himself made, nothing more.
@@sersi8698 Viserys had to marry.. It's his duty to have more heirs.. Whether people like it or not, not naming Aegon his heir is biggest mistake
@@bubba2457 Granted the Targaryen civil war was inevitable because even after he had a son, Viserys I didn’t properly put him second in line or first. Also, if it wasn’t Alicent, Viserys I would’ve married someone anyway.
Really the only thing that breaks my disbelief (haha), which is saying something with dragons and White Walkers, stagnant tech, weird seasons etc. Is that these houses have been ruling for 12,000 years. 8k for Starks etc. That's just... unbelievable?
Since when are Lorian and Lothric part of the Hightower
We Light the Way
indeed my friend. we light the way. 💚
💚 We Light The Way 💚
King Maegor also married a hightower.
purr bestie
They stumbled on a derelict Borg Cube - this explains the house’s affinity for green.. -Maester Patches
Wow!
Alicent Hightower is the only character worth rooting for in HoD.
Can you explain why we don’t know what their real family name is? I know it’s not Hightower. They would have had a different name in Essos. I believe they may have come from Ashai, or be an old Sorcerer house.
It was watch tower
nobody really knows but there is a theory that both house hightower and house dayne's lineage trace way back to the great empire of the dawn

Why is the Twin Princes from Dark Souls III in the thumbnail lol
Isn’t the thumbnail the Twin Princes from DS3?
The dark souls thumbnail lmao
I think you should make that video on house of the dragon borders..
Better a video about the whores from essos
Hopefully house of the dragon will reveal what the spinny thing is, ya know that gold thing that spins?

You did not mention how the andals betrayed and killed them.
Why does the thumbnail have prince lothric in it
Is that the cats paw dagger in the trailer
WC!!!!!
The Hightowers have their grubby hands in everything
Dayum, westeros is turning into darksouls.
Funny how Martin, who's still alive, leaves more cliffhangers than Tolkien who has passed
Was that White Harbor?
Hightowers where basically in the position back then that the lannisters where in on game of thrones lol
They still are, it's just that they're not as explicit with their endeavors as the Lannisters are. House Tyrell is currently intertwined with House Hightower through the marriage of Mace Tyrell and Alerie Hightower, which puts Hightower blood in line for the reach and the throne.
@@bcf1237 good to know.that explains why margery was slotted to marry joffrey and his little brother.for some reason i always got the tyrells and hightowers mixed up
yeah the only difference is that the lannisters are more evil and cruel but nonetheless i agree

Yup
urrigon Hightower and permore seem Alot like the twin princes from ds3

These videos are actually better than the books
You haven’t even finished it bro
Cringe comment
@@G_Kchrst Not really, I've read the five ASOIAF books and I've seen a considerable number of these videos. Based on that experience, these videos are better than the books.
In fact, it was these videos that convinced me to read the books. These videos do a good job of making interesting stories out of little pieces of lore and one-off comments made by side characters. I thought by reading the books I'd get a more complete version of the story outlined in these videos. Turns out it was the opposite. The books are really just filled with meandering tangents that don't lead anywhere (btw he's never going to finish the series, you can tell based on the direction the story takes after the third book, which is to say, it completely loses any and all direction). Meanwhile these videos take those tangents and ADHD-rattled Jackson Pollack-esque torrents of incoherent "world-building" and turns them into what George should have been telling from the beginning -- a story.
@@BR-re7oz Yeah, I 100% disagree with this lobby, the books are very nicely written and the story takes amazing turns that make it very organic and honest with ig tragedy vibes. As for the series not finishing, I can only hope, it's not on my hand.
@@BR-re7oz I think you are just simple. And I don't say this to be offensive but I feel the books are best enjoyed by people who enjoy complexity and incompleteness in knowledge from a single perspective, more like how it is in the real world.
Second
I would love a show where viserys doesn't re marry and she gets too be queen maybe even marry too deamon and then see how much they can thrive there dragons wouldn't die off so curious how it would go if she was the first queen
who is "she"? Rhaenyra? Well marrying Daemon is the stupidest possible thing she could do, since it was their determination to not make Daemon king that resulted in Rhaenyra getting named heir to begin with. it would unite the realm against her and him.
You spoil it.
You- it's not a spoiler though
First
Wtf with dark souls
You really need to slow down, multiple times throughout all of your videos I have to rewind to catch what you just said, smh feels like your rushing all the time
Everyone that watches this video jesus loves you and repent of your sins so you can inherit God's kingdom and get the free gift of eternal life
Who wants to live forever it’s boring as hell
I also have to turn my tv all the way up to hear you and it’s annoying asf
House Hightower aren't the antagonists tho? Unless you think having a woman and bastard children on the throne is a good idea 🙄
I guess its because they explicitly went against the kings will(Viserys named and kept insisting rhaenyra was his heir) and they didnt just not do that, but deliberately hid viserys death for like a week whilst they plotted and when rhaenyra find out, she miscarried im sure. However, rhaenyra herself was unpleasant as well and entitled so they were both just as bad as each other.
@@bamzahutt3831 Tbh, Aegon II was the more legitimate claimant and he probably would've made a better king via his grandfather, Otto Hightower, as Hand of the King whereas Rhaenyra probably would've named Daemon her Hand and I don't think anyone doubts that would not be good for anyone. Yeah, they hid Viserys' death, but it was to ensure Aegon could be king rather than call another great council or anything, they knew Rhaenyra would have to declare war in order to press her claim, but I doubt they thought Rhaenyra would actually be willing to.
@@matthewhart9610 It’s literally Viserys fault. He originally named Rhaenyra his heir out of fear jealousy and spite against Daemon. The moment his sons were born they should’ve been the successors. He overruled the very
same rule that put him on the throne in the first place and he went about it so foolishly it’s like he was trying to start a civil war.
@@aegonii8471 i fucking agree my friend, very well said
