    As I grow older I'm drawn to timeless, understated and elegant. Having a neutral palette and utilizing clean lines makes dressing for any occasion so much simpler.

      That's so true - it's interesting how for many that seems to be the case. A more "quiet" style dominates as we mature. I've definitely noticed this within my own style x

    I happened to have ‘capsulised’ my wardrobe just a couple of days ago, and had a close examination of all od the items. I’d say my 3 words are: calm, smart, fluid. Similar to minimal style, i realise that I love it when my outfit calms or soothes me, either by material, colour, or silhouette. Then, they are a bit slouchy but still has a tailored sense to it. Lastly, fluid. I love it when I move, my clothes move in a way that gives a beautiful dynamic which completes the look. I love it when the outfit compliments my moving body as a whole :)

    Fitted, classic, and feminine. I just had a baby, though, and "comfortable" is a new word I am feeling as well. I was walking with the stroller the other day and was struggling with my wrap dress (it was a windy day). I realized I am going to need more clothes that stay put since I no longer have free use of my hands on a regular basis 😂

    Comfort is essential, uncomfortable items never get worn much. I’m glad I only bought one loungewear set during the lockdowns, I’ve only worn it once! I shouldn’t have bought any. Intentionality, as Kristina says below, or your word deliberate, makes for better style, for sure. The really chaotic wardrobes I’ve seen completely lack intentionality, the women who have these just don’t have a feel for what they love and tend to purchase randomly. The three-word style description approach really helps focus us on what we love, the first step toward better personal style and a more useful wardrobe.

  • @kimberlyperrotis8962

    That’s a great point, personal style is a process, not a destination. I try for timelessness, but bodies, situations and preferences change, as well as fashion trends. I am the happiest I’ve ever been with the style direction I’ve taken in the last five years, but changes will occur, it’s natural. I think I only ever went wrong when I tried to fit in with what the majority were wearing, instead of suiting myself. Now, everyone is wearing only black or gray gym outfits daily where I live, but half the pleasure of being a woman is just eliminated by that style, it’s unfeminine, drab, restricted and not creative at all. My wardrobe is a creative outlet for me, I don’t want to wear the same thing all the time! Not to mention those hideous synthetic fabrics in gym clothes, they’re so uncomfortable, spandex-tight, sweaty and hot!

      I love this comment Kimberly, as it also just highlights that point that, where is the joy in dressing like everyone else? It makes me think of the uniforms and lack of individuality you have (to an extent) at school - at least for me at the schools I attended from the age of 11 up. What you wear should absolutely give and bring you joy!

    My 3 words are Feminine, Cozy, Delicate. Ive struggled with this because I also want to choose Romance, Serenity, Sensual. Part of the reason for this struggle is the idea that romantic can never be delicate. Cozy can never be feminine or delicate. These are things ive heard. What I feel is cozy isn't what other people call comfy, etc.

    I was much more daring in my twenties. These days, my 3 words are classic, feminine, and comfortable. I’ve also experienced the issues that many of the ladies here described after becoming a mom. I don’t want to fuss with my clothes. I want them to be functional and practical but still polished. The classic white button up, jeans, and pointed flats is my go-to outfit for literally anything (except work).

    I’ve had a bit of a hard time narrowing my adjectives down, especially because more recently I’ve started experimenting more with my style. I was in a bit of a style rut for about a year, mostly due to hard personal situations and life, but recently I’ve found joy and freedom through coming back to expressing myself through style and staring to minimize my collection once again. Funnily enough, the game Animal crossing actually helped me with this! I love dressing my character up in fun, creative outfits and building my virtual bead robe in the game haha.
    Because of this, I’ve really loved incorporating new metallic and shimmery pieces, leading me to add a new word into my former set of style adjectives. Right now I’ve actually got four, including cozy, preppy, artsy, and glam. Loved this video!! ♥️

    A few years ago, in my 50s, I realized I didn’t want to wear the local Boho style anymore and have gone back to the more classic style I wore when younger (but with updated items, of course). I feel so much more like me! I think I was trying to feel happy in that Boho style because everyone else wore it, but it never felt great. Boho style is now becoming popular in Europe now, but I’m never going back. My style descriptors are: simple, feminine, modest and sophisticated, yes that’s four!

    I think my words are comfortable, fashionable and joyful as there needs to be joy when I am getting dressed. My job means I need to be comfortable, I still want to look good but I commute so practical shoes as well. I have learned that I would rather be warm and comfortable than high fashion and cold. I am starting to get excited for fall :)

    Oh my, I find it difficult to stop at three words when it comes to my style and I even question whether I should. I think it would be serendipity, quality, tactile. As for your style, I am fascinated by it. It's a very particular take on minimalism. I would say the words you make me think of are nuance, curated, teddy bear. The romantic aspect of your style has been distilled over time to just a whiff, but it's still present and adds warmth. Interesting exercise, I had fun doing it (:

    • @mademoisellejaime
      @mademoisellejaime  2 года назад +1

      I love the words you've chosen for yourself. How they don't bind or box you into a particular style, but rather the feeling and elements what you want your outfits to embody. Nuance is right, that's for sure - details are everything (which would explain why I can have 6 pairs of black trousers but they're all different to me 😅) xx

    too much time was spent to pick clean, easy, and alternative. But it has been super helpful in pulling the trigger on items, especially if they fit all 3. It's also fun to describe the "personas" that are the combination of those 3 words. Clean + Easy = coastal grandmother to me.

    • @mademoisellejaime
      @mademoisellejaime  2 года назад

      YES! Absolutely - and I like how there's a bit of a scale too, depending on how much of each "word" is peppered into the outfit. Like today I wore a sleeveless jacket with silk skirt and low block heels - all three words encapsulated my three elements of classic, minimal and comfortable, but it's a far cry from my usual stripe knit + jeans + pointed toe low heeled pumps!

Whoever you are and however big of an ‘influencer’ you think you are, keep your ego in check and try to always be kind and/or at least polite! Firstly, so sorry if you got a weird spam comment as a reply. I've personally never had any interactions with her so can't speak to her character, but am so sorry to hear you had a negative interaction with her. That aside, I do think appreciate the method she's shared/made popular (not sure if it's her own but she definitely popularised it) as it's such a simple way to distill your personal style into something bite sized and easy to understand. And, you're too kind. Thank you so much! Hope you're having a beautiful week xx

    Another word for "classic" is "basic". Everyone using this word ends up with the same wardrobe. It's not a bad thing but I'd love to see more inspiring looks.

    • @mademoisellejaime
      @mademoisellejaime  Год назад

      I'm not going to argue that there's synergies between the two words, but I do think there's nuance and you can have classic elements in your wardrobe without the items themselves being "basic". For example, it could be a classic silhouette that has been modernised (fabric, alternations to the fit or style), or maybe in a loud or colourful print. Minimal is again a word you can interpret so many different ways - and it doesn't need to mean devoid of colour (though it can); it could mean you don't wear flourishes/embellishment/prints but do opt for block colours (running the gamut of the rainbow). The way you read into the words is really going to be personal. As an example, I shared this week in outfits on IG (instagram.com/p/CiFRfGlj9ku/), and the silhouettes themselves are quite classic but some of the items I chose have some amazing details which makes them feel really special (like the cut out pleated skirt, for instance).

  • @SS_S.
    @SS_S. 2 года назад

    It's hard to narrow down my style, because I work in finance and feel my best in classic corporate clothes (button shirts, sheath dresses and blazers, high heels), but they do not fit my lifestyle now that I'm caring for kids and working 100% from home in a country town where moleskins, RM Williams and flannel are de jour.
    I settled on classic, practical and handmade. I love the classical timeless style, but practical choices get more wear. One of my goals is to grow my hand sewn and knit wardrobe so that I can wear at least one handmade item every day.
    Edit to add - muted and natural very nearly made the cut. Muted in terms of muted colour palette, but also in a style that's not at all loud or attention seeking. Natural because I only wear natural fibres and I want clothes that feel like they're part of my nature and at home in my wardrobe. Great concept! It was hard to narrow down to three words.

    • @mademoisellejaime
      @mademoisellejaime  2 года назад

      It's interesting how much of an influence where we live has over our personal style too. While I wouldn't consider the metropolitan cities of Wellington and Sydney to be *too* different, I can easily see how they've both influenced my style over the years (not to mention my most recent role of mum).
      I like "muted" as a word. Or even just "quiet". Subtlety in details! It's a great exercise and definitely a good way to have a blueprint for putting together outfits :D
