my favorite part about Liu Kang's x-ray is how the person's skull fractures then entirely heals in time for the second hit, upon which it fractures again

MK9 set the standard so high for fighting games because it was that damn good
If you press start on Noob's MK klassic outfit, the clone becomes Smoke
MKX started the trend where the x rays were really just mid fight fatalities.
Yet somehow everything instantly gets cured the moment the victim gets up
it was literally only other game that has xrays

They're so insane now that they could literally kill, and I think they're wasting fatality ideas on X-Rays.

I still think they should have made X-Rays into fatalities. It'd be a good way to give fatalities a change up.
I actually prefer MK9's X-Rays over MKX's. MKX lacks the greyscale and doesn't darken environment as much to better emphasize the damage, and they're really long in MKX as well.

Not only that MK9 X Rays are quick, to the point and make sense. At best you could get up and still fight and at worst itll take a couple weeks to heal up. MKx and MK11 are just glorified fatalities that are tediously long and in some cases more brutal than the fatalities and dont make sense cuz they get right back up afterward
Mk9s xrays will still either kill or paralyse you

If you mod in some of the generic NPCs form challenge tower like the director they actually have a X ray they all share Johnny cages one from the trailler
I personally liked Reptile's, Ermac's, Noob's, Sindel's, Rain's, Kitana's, Scarlett's, Stryker's and Liu Kang's a lot (Usually followed Liu's up with a Bicycle Kick myself. Or another uppercut.)
Goro's and Shao Kahn's are also great. They were always incredibly painful and embarassing to get caught by.
I don't think Smoke's and Kano's are that bad. Satisfying enough. Also like Kabal's because it kneecaps you with audible pain and damage, but the second hit to the back is kinda me to me.
9:45 definitely makes it even funnier 😂
I don’t get how kung Lao hitting a neck two times and scorpion punching and stomping on the apponent is better than Kenshi’s sword slash

Normally I stay open minded for these but putting Baraka above Kenshi is a sin
I don’t get how scorpion doing nothing related to fire gets a B tier but smoke does a better x-ray thats not related to smoke gets a C tier
Because the placements are meaningless and just an excuse to look at some cool super moves, it ain't that serious
Imo a lot of the fatalities in MK9 - MK10 were the just the right amount of brutal and gorey. MK11 is where they started to jump the shark a bit with the gore aspect, tho. Agree or disagree?
Edit: Forgot to add that they reeled it back a bit in MK12, which I like (although maybe recency bias lol).

I don't like Sonya that much in general but I remember her having my favorite X ray in the game cuz it was a whole combo into a neck snap with the legs like it was so flashy and cool and unique. At least to me

MKX’s x-rays are more brutal and impactful than MK9 ones

I still think mk9 has the best supers just because it was beauty in simplicity and it didn't try to go too over the top

Pretty much all of these but Freddy are S tier. These are all so much better than the newer ones where they do way too much.
Thankfully I have a copy of mk 9 but it really does sucks that this game has been removed from the ps store for years but the vita version remains for some reason 😑
Wow, you guys were pretty strict imo; even taking into account that X-Rays were "simpler" back then.
I think some of these are better than most of MKX's. May be the graphics, but also the presentation.
I would have placed quite a few of them higher, like Reptile's (though I do just love him, especially in this game.)
Also, in MKX, it just looks wrong to me how they show the spines and neck bones exploding in half and skulls caving in like it's a damn fatality.
Here in 9, the musculoskeletal system looks fantastic, and the bones get broken or fractured by a satisfying impact.
Some parts are a bit lackluster now, though. Stryker's, however, is still fun as hell to "bust" people with lmao.
