Same with ducks, though with them, I've loved them since I was a kid so never ever ate duck.. that association, like you so aptly stated, is what will really kill your desire to eat one of these beautiful creatures

Even more touching, I just saw a video where FaaMai went to get Lek and brought her back to an orphaned baby elephant FaaMai wants to adopt and communicated to Lek to sing a lullaby to the baby. And it worked! The orphaned baby elephant curled up right in front of FaaMai and Lek and went to sleep. FaaMai seemed so happy the three of them were cuddled up together singing and sleeping. And I love how at one point Lek moves back right under FaaMai so that the baby can curl up right against FaaMai's front--in range of FaaMai's superhugging trunk! So sweet!

I like the way she pulled Lek up close to her when she started singing. Then everyone came from nearby to hear her lovely lullaby. It was so sweet.

Given your knowledge, maybe you can help with this. When visiting India as a kid, we stayed in a hotel that had its own elephant. She was young and lived on the grounds. I instantly made friends with her and spent all my spare time with her. Over a week we bonded and she even came running towards me, she'd grunt and make funny noises around me. No one saw my interaction with the elephant, and no one in my family believed me when I told them how the elephant bonded. My mother said it would take a lifetime to really make friends and one-week wouldn't be enough. True or False?
Depends on the individual. Their personalities can vary rather wildly among the same species or even the same group (much like humans). I fully believe it's possible that you bonded somewhat.

to make something clear: no she's not hitting the elephant out of malice or abuse. it mimics how elephants interact with each other with their trunks. elephants do this to display affection and interest.
Elephants are so big and stout, I don't see how anyone could mistake that for "hitting" it; I'd imagine that shirt waving is the equivalent for an elephant of someone running a paintbrush up and down my arm.
That was my assumption, she was both cooling the elephant and keeping flies at bay, which elephants do with their ears it seemed pretty self-evident, but I guess not to all...
Thai mother will keeping mosquitoes , insects ,flies at bay whenever she sing lullaby her baby to sleep use cloth or whip mosquito in doing so.Lek did that as she love the elephant like her baby.

I am volunteering in February and I can't wait. It was because of her and her point of view and love that I choose this park. She has a genuine love for them. I have volunteered at an animal shelter and whenever I would play brazilian music the dogs would stop barking and suddenly relax. Not to this extent but it would calm them down.

Its incredible to see that elephants were still able to forgive humans for what they did to them for the majority of their lives, and were able to find that not everyone wants to harm them.
This brings a tear to my eye and makes me so happy, to see that Elephant bring her in for a hug was the cherry on the top. The women sung beautifully as well.

I live in Florida and we have ducks walking freely around ... when a duck gets run over by a car it's mate comes to try to get it up or stay with it ...If you bury the the dead duck it's mate will sit on the grave for days...

nobody in 1800 ever said there would be flying cars in future. even airplane was not yet invented and the only flying object i know were flying balloons. and yes we do have flying cars or something resembling them conceptually. have you ever heard of paramotors, gliders, individual/private planes etc. so this flying cars line is kind of ancient now.
and elephants probably slept by hearing lullaby back in 1800 as well.
