I believe Steve Earle is the best songwriter/performer ever and he is absolutely my #1 mentor and teacher as Townes was to him with the exception of me not personally knowing him. Living legend....
I got to know Steve and JT back in the late 80s. I turned into a big fan. Years later I had a small studio on the Row. One night Steve stopped by and Justin came in and said his dad wanted me. Steve told me he was playing the Blue Bird with some friends. And I got to be there, and was going to save me a seat. Turns out the friends were Guy Clarke and Townes Van Zant. It was a legendary show and I was on the front row. Thanks to Steve Earle.
Like a knife to the heart, when he said, honestly, "there was a time that Nashville wanted songs of that caliber -- they don't anymore". So glad I remember growing up with Merle, Willie, Johnny, Jones, etc. Songs like Poncho & Lefty, Two More Bottles of Wine, You're the Reason God Made Oklahoma, Cherokee Fiddle, etc.
I don't know if I'm even within the right medium to comment on this. I've had the pleasure of seeing Steve Earle on a number of occasions in London England. Bizarrely, we were white collar IT industry workers who couldn't resist Steve's fervour and downright grit. Last saw him at the Shepherds Bush empire around 2004 when I smoked my last Cohiba cigar. Totally awesome. I'd seen him in Camden in the late80's when he was obviously struggling against drugs. A genuine Prince.

Steve Earle is honest about Canadian and Australian health care;USA could improve overall Heath care, we need a National formulary and universal health for all; Congress has great health benefits, why not for all Americans ??
towns did teach him to write and kept telling him to not give up. the reasons why steve became famous was because of his voice, style and writting...so towns did that for steve and steve believe it or not in my view did help bring towns to the world through his voice, style singing and writting...so if they had not ever met what? glad they did!!! :)
I would like to start by saying I am a big fan of both Jian Ghomeshi and the country of Canada. As a Southerner, I was both disturbed and saddened by Billy Bob Thornton's appearance on the show. He is a not a representative of the South and Canadians should not view his behavior as representative of the South. On the other hand, Steve Earle represents the best of the South. Please keep that in mind.
+Michael Murphey What makes you think Townes would reject universal health care? His family, especially the kids, relied on public assistance, especially for health care. He was not as political as Steve, but was no conservative.
Steve Early? hehe. sorry. Cool interview. I missed this one. Can't wait for Tom Waits. It will be the most epic Q ever. I hope he's on his worst behaviour.
Guess Michael Murphey's comments would carry more weight if he could spell Steve Earle correctly.... It's written above... US has the most expensive and least effective healthcare system in the western world..... any attempt to change that must be good for 'the greatest country on Earth'.....
Holy shit! You're (sort of) familiar with a dead language? You must be some sort of genius!!! Are you a Southern man? As I said, stereotypes are occasionally broken. The Alabama Latin club is, I'm certain, one hell of a place to party!
steve earle is full of fucking shit....lets put it this for this socialist...in 09 i had a fucking heart attack and had emergency open heart surgery 6 miles from my fucking house....it cost me $26 ...and that was for the goddamn television in my room for 5 days. ...the only requirement / prerequisite for this ?...I HAD A FRIGGIN JOB ...making $15 /hr.... so when these fucking mouthpieces shoot off their mouth it pissez me the fuck off....and btw....the prime minister of canada SNUCK HERE UNDER THE COVER OF DARKNESS TO HAVE HIS OHS.... fuck this fuckin guy
He only saw him as better than the alternatives and his views on that have not changed. As a socialist, he certainly is not ever going to vote Republican or Libertarian.
It's a terrible interview. The guy tells you his subject's story right at the beginning while the poor guy who's there to tell his story sits there looking like "are you going to talk to me now or what?" This interviewer's rude and arrogant and loves the sound of his own voice more than he's interested to hear what his interviewees have to say. But worse than being rude and arrogant (fine if it's entertaining) he's smug and dull.

What a great interview.
In my mind Townes is Poncho and Lefty Steve!!

I was hoping there'd be an interview done by Jian with Steve Earle and I was not disappointed. Thanks Qtv.
Right on, awesome to know. We have an identical one in a closet in the studio I work at. Thanks for the knowledge!

It's the only computer in the building that can run the software Jian uses to communicate with the control room... These days it sits under the desk.

♥️♥️♥️
How someone can hate his own country that has done so much for him is unfathomable to me. 18:50
Would've been nice to know this was just an interview, just saying.
Mark, this is just an interview man 👍
weird, he mentioned the same movie 4 years apart

Yeah after I posted that, I figured that out. LOL
He crashed Mr. Bojangle's 33rd birthday party 🥳 .
Townes was big lighting Hopkins fan

They never got to him playing the song! Oh well! If he hadn't asked the question about the politics thing then he would have been able to....
