- How dumb do you have to be to get arrested at the freaking Pro Bowl?
After a strong 1975 NFL season, St. Louis Cardinals running back Terry Metcalf got invited to the Pro Bowl down in New Orleans. And on his way down to New Orleans, he did the one thing that you should never do while at an airport, cementing his status as the dumbest player in the history of this all-star game

He would be better served by spiking the firecrackers into the ground on every single play.
Only if they were those little poppers...
He was saying "He" is the bomb 💣 😅 And Terry definitely was that!
"Just plane stupid."
I see what you did there.
Just Plane Wrong, unquestionably.
It Was Plane Crazy.
@@runrafarunthebestintheworldAn unmitigated disaster, unequivocally.
“NFL player said he would blow up the plane”. Welcome to Dumb Decisions.
*pulls up a chair and turns it around* The answer is "Eugene Robinson". That's one of the things my childhood team has done to me.
Pro Bowl is a throw away game, but to do it the night before a super bowl after winning the Walter Payton Award...*chef's kiss*
Hmm, must've been a Metcalf thing to have a "menace moment" .. I'm looking straight at DK Metcalf😂
I know! I wanna love this guy, but every other action is some kinda fight or something. Really hoping the new coach kicks his butt!
@@gohawks3571 He's no dawg like Zay Flowers right?🙄
Or Kadarius Toney, now I know *that's* what you want........................................
Oh and poster knows that DK and Terry/Eric Metcalf *aren't* related right?
@@mgb4692yes they are - they're cousins
Loved the video-did you have to slip in that family feud reference? Ha ha ! Seriously, metcalf shouldn’t have made that joke about blowing up a plane when he knew they took that as a threat! Maybe he learned a lesson from the incident! 😂😂😂😂
he learned a plane lesson after that.
@@runrafarunthebestintheworld ha ha 😂 nice pun !
On the scale of "stuff you just can't say," talking about blowing up planes at an airport rates about 9.9 out of 10. You can't exactly be surprised when it backfires. Talk about a dumb decision.
Still more players ejected in the Pro Bowl than in the Super Bowl 2 to 1.
Back then, the Pro Bowl was a real thing and nearly every player eligible played. Many players back then actually had off season jobs because they weren't making today's money. The Pro Bowl was a free vacation and a nice paycheck. I think it was somewhere around 20k for winners and 10k for losers. It was likely a good showcase for players to market themselves to potential sponsors, also.
Some of them even additionally had third jobs, and, these other jobs frequently paid them more than the NFL did.
Terry metcalf is a cardinal legend.
For the wrong reasons. 😅
That is hilarious. Great job finding new stories
Best story of the week for sure.
I had always watched the Pro Bowl, even after the game had become a farce, not much more than a touch football game, and I watched the inaugural "Pro Bowl Games" last year.
It was ridiculously stupid.
I won't be watching this year or any year from now on.
It's unfortunately obsolete, unquestionably.
Players just don't want tackle people too hard with pads. It literally took them years to find out how much the Pro Bowl means nothing.
@@runrafarunthebestintheworldEspecially following Hawaiian departure.
Oh how close we got to JG9 dropping the F word.
I'm from St Louis and my grampa was showing me Terry Metcalf highlights and woo that man was a beast!!!
JG wasn't arrested, Frank got him
And, if you look closely, the name is misspelled.
@@toddbiesel4288damn editor. He’s fired. 🙂
JG9: don’t bring explosives on a plane.
Also JG9: here’s my step-by-step guide
That is one of the funniest pieces I've heard from you!
The ONE time a celebrity could have used 'Don't you know who I am?' and it likely would have worked. Metcalf really could do it all. That 2462 all-purpose yards is equal to 2990 in a 17-game season. But you can see how similar his ball carrying style is to Chuck Foreman's and why fumbles haunted both of them.
Alvin Kamara has entered the chat.
"Hold my beer...."
Reminds me of that scene from "Meet the Parents", where Ben Stiller's character gets kicked off the plane.
His problem was fumbling. He may have improved in 1975, but it got worse again.
Yeah airport security has absolutely no sense of humor.
Do a video on Atlanta Falcon safety who got arrested the night before the 1999 Super Bowl.
Arrested for solicitation of prostitute.
He did not get any sleep that night.
Not Kevin Gogan or Neil Smith in February of 1998.
Welcome to Dumb Decisions, featuring Terry Metcalf
Is it just me but a few fireworks on a plane and they believe the dude is really gunna blow it up. Please they woulda had to be huge fireworks and heaps of them. Probably a few Tom thumbs 😂
Eagle-eyed watchers of a certain age will catch Spider Lockhart at 6:40 of the video. RIP Spider.
17:14...so that's why there was no Pro Bowl stream
Metcalf was lucky to make it to NOLA, especially with a sign saying not to make comments about weapons or hijacking at the airport in St. Louis. That was just plane dumb.
plane like air plane.
Airplain are plane jane plains. Rather use a plain if i ever have to deal with a plane airplain pilot . It's plane annoying riding a plain , ever fly a plain over the great planes? Its wild, it's bomb
Here's an alternate take: Metcalf was actually 45 years ahead of his time. The only stupid thing he did was forget what year he was in when he said that. Had he said the same thing in an airport in the 2020s he'd have not only been allowed onto the plane with no questions asked, but probably given even more fireworks by security for "social justice" reasons.
yeah, no
He's probably working for Kamala Harris now.
Why would you bring that remote.political.comment.into.this
No one:
Terry: "I'm gonna blow this mf up!"
You're not supposed to say this sort of thing is dumb in today's world, but Terry's son Eric was born when he (Terry) was 16. This was at a time when the teen pregnancy rate had not yet exploded and become a new normal. Just sayin'.
Tony Dorsett fathered a kid just as he arrived at college.
Tim Raines, Sr. and Ken Griffey, Sr. both became fathers at 19, but were getting paid to play minor league baseball, so they had some income. And both married at 18.
Interesting you have a Mike Quick and Seth Joyner jersey. What’s your connection to that era of Eagles football?
I’ve got autographed jerseys and helmets in the studio from every team. Usually, I’ll swap the helmets out based on whatever team I’m talking about in the video
Lol, I smoked with his wife at a summer party. She was nice. This didn't come up.
Smoked what, exactly? 😉
This is very silly. He was obviously being sarcastic ("Oh I'm going to blow up the plane?"). He shouldn't have said it and he shouldn't have brought firecrackers in the first place, but this was a case of security and police making a mountain out of a mole hill.
In that type of job, you have to take EVERYTHING seriously
Yeah, no, he's, horribly-idiotic.
@msarzo Damn Right, you have to assume the worst out of every example presented because it's better to have to write a check to settle a lawsuit, than to bury multiple corpses, period.
@@msarzo Not being able to tell the difference between obvious sarcasm and an actual threat is a serious defect with security: ruclips.net/video/uQdC-e82gmk/видео.html
You also have to keep in mind the historical context around when this game was played in the mid-late 70's, the longest, most divisive , costliest war in American history had just ended (Vietnam War), you still had radical left-wing terrorist groups in the western world hijacking, bombing and taking commercial airplanes and their crew hostage at Entebbe, the devastating, sad unfortunate hijacking and murder of Isreali athletes at Munich Olympics in 1972, PLO terrorists, gunmen hijacking commercial airplanes, IRA bombings in UK, Northern Ireland, Black September faction, the notion of putting air marshalls on planes to prevent or lessen hijackings or bombings emerged from this period. Most Americans remained bitter and divided over the painful, agonizing legacy of the Vietnam War for nearly a decade, until the mid-80's.
Against this backdrop, making what seems like a harmless joke nowadays by our modern sensibilities, actually sounded very stupid and idiotic. The world of the mid-70's was a very different one from the one we encounter now, IMHO, almost unrecognizable.
Family Feud 😂😂😂😂
I was just fire crackers. He couldn't have blown up the plane.
Doesn’t take much to ignite jet fuel.
Nice knowing you JG9.
Why you chose to focus on the Pro Bowl thing which no one remembers. Metcalf was the best player in the NFC and he was a leader, hard worker and well respected everywhere..his only transgression.. he was the new model for the new offense under coach Don Coryell.
Eric and DK are both much better Metcalfs.
Terrence too
Was he related to kickoff return master Eric Metcalf?
I don't believe so although he did wear 21 when he was a Cardinal.
His father.
Eric was his son. And a better version of dad.
@@Rockhound6165 yes, they're related
@@IllMatic97 OK. I didn't remember.
Metcalf gained 5955 yards from scrimmage over five years in St.Louis. Above average for sure. The Cards were beyond cheap, so he went to Canada.
Terrence, Eric, DK....Metcalfs (Metcalves?) make good running backs.
I can't remember Terry as a player, but I know his son Eric was an even better version of him.
