The other person is Andy Richter. Norm has a history of pulling him into jokes too. If you want to see one of those, check out Norm's Swedish German joke.
Norm also does a bit where he reveals he knew Andy years ago and Andy used to do sex work for dudes. The punch line is of a similar type as this final joke here and of course Norm follows the punch line with a side comment that is the cherry on top.
@@Randsurfer lol I wouldn't say "reaveals" that implies it happened, noone was safe from norm, the "gay cornstar fan" he put on Andy was my favorite, just out of knowhere.
Andy is what is colloquially referred to as a sidekick. He participates in various skits and interacts with the guests when things seem to slow down. He also knows how to ramp Conan up, so can be real funny at times. Also, fyi, Norm is Canadian, so even if he became a naturalized US citizen he could never be president [Elon Musk is also in this category, since he was born in South Africa and later immigrated to Canada.] Conan has very funny interactions with several comedians, in particular Norm, and Bill Burr, Martin Short & Steve Martin and various cast members from SNL. You should definitely check out some of their interviews.
That is one of my favorite Norm appearances on Conan. Norm was a comedians comedian and he often did things just because they were fun for him. I believe here he's channeling comedy legend Rodney Dangerfield at the date of his passing.
Andy Richter was Conan's sidekick. He was basically just there to fill any awkward silence between Conan and the guest. A lot of older late night talk shows did the same thing, like Johnny Carson had Ed McMahon as his sidekick.
Norm's bit on Conan was very much to tell old jokes as if they were actual anecdotes, like the ones guests usually tell on a talk show. In this case, I believe it's a tribute to Rodney Dangerfield; one of Norm's idols in stand-up. There used to be video that compared Norm's wife in hospital joke to Rodney's, but I can't find it at present. Feel free to check out Rodney though. Norm didn't usually like one-liner comedians but loved him, and I tend to agree. His jokes are priceless and yet a mile a minute.
I'm glad you reacted to this. It's is one of my favourite "Norm with Conan" bits. Norm told old jokes brilliantly. Conan's reaction makes them even funnier. Conan was a script writer on Saturday Night Live, and the Simpsons, before becoming a talk show host in '93. So, I assume he's heard plenty of old jokes, and can figure others out. From Conan's reaction, he loved having Norm on the show; I imagine because Norm surprised him in delightful and unpredictable ways. Norm audaciously resurrected familiar, long-dead, jokes Conan likely knew, yet Norm sometimes surprised him. Norm sometimes pushed a boundary no one had previously thought to push, which is likely joyous for a comedy scriptwriter and every-week-day-night talk-show host. Best Wishes. ☮
That other guy is Andy Richter the Swedish German Haha! You should look up Norm's Andy Richter the Swedish German joke. But yeah, Andy is Conan's sidekick. Andy is pretty funny himself, but Norm used to mess with Andy a lot and it was always hysterical.
Yes this is a perfect segue for you to watch Norm MacDonald talking about Andy Richter the Swedish German. And yes Norm recycled very old jokes constantly. His thing was not original jokes as much as meta humor about them
Comedy Central channel used to do Roasts of particular celebrities now and then. Earlier ones were very funny! But they really pushed boundaries with very mean jokes (that's the nature of a Roast after all) Anyways, eventually they did one for Bob Saget (the dad from Full House) and he wanted his good friend Norm to take part. Norm didn't want to be mean to his good friend so he took a different path for his part in it. Not everyone loves it but I did.
Andy Richter is the second guy, Conan's sidekick. It's in the tradition (I don't know if intentionally) of the legendary NBC's Tonight Show and the great Johnny Carson and his sidekick Ed McMahon.
The first time I saw him was on Saturday Night Live, and I thought he was VERY funny. Unfortunately, he was very vocal about his belief that OJ Simpson was guilty, and it got him into trouble with the brass at NBC. Unfortunately for them, it was all highly publicized, and of course this brought him a lot of attention. But sadly, it wasn't until right before he died that he became really popular. I think he knew he was on his way out and stopped caring. Greatest standup comedian that ever lived imho. RIP Norm.

Norms the best, feel bad for Andy
Norms butts about andy are legendary

Conan’s side kick is Andy Richter. He’s great. Kind of a straight man for Conan and sort of sets Conan up.
I like to call the role the "helper-monkey" since that's the exact way that I make jokes lol

Hurts me Andy was hurt by Norm's Swedish German joke. Maybe if they held him down he would've took the joke

Andy Richter and Conan have had lots of great skits on their older versions of their talk shows on nbc channel

I like you two ^_^
Andy has the role of "sidekick." Conan is the Captain, and Andy is the First Mate.
