      @JonathanEells 4 года назад +14

      Chikirin - Smiling slightly relaxes almost all the muscles from your collar bone up. Now your shoulders are relaxed and highly mobile. Scowling or other such fierce face-making does the exact opposite: stiff, inflexible, immobile.

      It’s just the boring shit in movies where the hero keeps making all those straight angry faces like so serious and the villain has an evil lough , he meant to get over this stupid old stuff because they are boring , smiling in the spirit of an athlete and people should learn that , they say “ be a beast , but be nice”

    "Fiorerists are people too, inferior, but still people"
    Savage.
    Id assume you were making up those people talked about in your second point of how not to be obnoxious, but I met one recently. I was showing my new (and relatively sharp) sword to a friend while we were with a group of guys, one of them gawked at the thing and insisted he hold it, my friend passed it to him and before I could say "dont let him handle that" my worst fear of him fingerfucking the blade turned out to be entirely too conservative, as he started flourishing it. The guys all scattered as the moron spun about flailing, and I demanded he stop, only to have him thrust right at me! Just as I thought "right, Im getting the bat now" he stops and thrusts the sword straight into concrete.
    Now I treat my swords like guns, I wont even speak of them if im not in polite, respectful company.

    • @cadethumann8605
      @cadethumann8605 7 лет назад +24

      So he managed to pierce the concrete? If so, then at least that's impressive. Or do you mean that he had the tip balancing? Still, sorry that some jackass was swinging a dangerous weapon without even asking your permission.

      Yo. Have a look at the parang lading. Some schools use it offensively, probably like any other short blade, but some schools use them by placing them along the forearm for a more defensive usage. Pretty neat. It might lack the distance and speed, but makes up for it by having better leverage and probably a deeper cut if it does connect

    I've just started Hema. Longsword, of course, and I follow your channel religiously.
    I suck, which is natural at the beginning, but I'm confident that will change some day.
    Actually my biggest problem is that I'm a former Savateur(Savate aka french boxing), so my instructor is always telling me to calm down lol. :D I'm a bit too agressive in combat/sparring so I need to work on that as well.
    But that disadvantage has also proven to be an advantage. Savate is a very flexible martial art, so at least I've picked up leg movements easier then non/ex martial artists.

You can use Japanese-esque things without being a weeaboo as long as you keep in touch with your own culture. Just thought I tell you.

    Nice video, but I have a few questions. Should I polish swords to mirror finish? I do mirror finish on my dagger since, well, it's customary to carry one and it's expected to be nice and clean, but I don't know should I do it with swords too since they see much more use than daggers. You mentioned olive oil as "preservant". I heard that olive oil is slightly acidic and may cause slightly gray-ish patina on steel (that's why I use edible bio linseed oil). Since I live in "olive oil region", should I use it instead of linseed oil? And last question is, what is that inscription on your sword? Thank you in advance :D

      witcher utilises folklore found in his country and i dont see why he wouldnt be proud of it.. witcher is also a big success in literary world as well as gaming industry...and not to mention the guy is a HEMA instructor and a swordsmith...and a good one as far as i see it... utilising things like witcher game that is wildly popular offers great conversational tool to help bring swordfighting little closer to a wider audience who might not be interested in it right off the bat...

      It's been made by myself, actually. Perfectly custom.
      I charge about 700 USD for a sword like this, 4 months processing time. Interested? :)

    You had mentioned sword care. One thing that has always eluded me is how to take care of sword chips/burs/dents from sparring.
    I would greatly appreciate your assistance if you know of a good video for it or making one yourself. (I prefer your videos :P) Keep up the great videos!

    • @TheSwordsPathChannel
      @TheSwordsPathChannel  7 лет назад +1

      Not much can be done about deep dents, I'm afraid. But burrs and chips are best removed with a low grain sandpaper, then smoothed back to the original grain with a piece of finer sandpaper. If the burrs are huge, use a file.
      I don't recommend a grinder, as it's easy to overheat the steel and ruin the temper.

    Hey Alan!
    Nice video, but it does leave me with a question; why do you recommend against the hangetort or ochs guard (it seemed like those were the ones you were using)?
    I find it quite effective defensively, as it has the point towards your opponent, while allowing you to parry and counterattack easily. Or did you exclusively mean for posing?

    • @TheSwordsPathChannel
      @TheSwordsPathChannel  7 лет назад +1

      I recommend against them WHILE POSING FOR PHOTOS XD
      They are perfectly functional otherwise. I just included the section about posing to possibly reduce the amount of ABSOLUTELY CRINGEWORTHY sword photos in the web, so that the HEMA community is perceived less as freaks and more like sportsmen. :)
