The challenge for this round was a "Megamix" of 2 songs. If I remember right, the other groups interpreted this as simply a medley... one song and then the other song. Only PTX actually interwove their 2 songs line by line and constructed a dramatic scene out of the result. Astonishing. That's why I consider this #11 FULLY equal to #10 and #12 that everyone always talks about. They're known as masters of creative mashups, but not even in Daft Punk or New Rules or any of the Evolutions did they do it more magnificently than here, when they were a brand-new group in the thick of a weekly competition. I've seen the performance dozens of times now and I'm left speechless every time.

the "we won" performance is "i need your love" in which they came back a year later at the end of the next season to perform. im pretty sure most of the groups there were just thinking, wow, im sure glad they were here last year and not this year!

I'm just like everyone else, I LOVE the 10th performance, and the 12th performance, Dog Days Are Over, is audio drama, but I hate it that so often, the 11th performance is overlooked. Their background in musical theater is prominent, and absolutely amazing. (BTW, non sequitur is a latin phrase, "it does not follow.") I suspect there may have been a mild flirtation going on at the time, so maybe they just enacted what many fans wished for these beautiful, talented young people. Who knows? Nobody's telling tales out of school, but they certainly made up a convincing radio drama, didn't they? So, one of my favs, also!

I’m so happy to see this reaction! 10 and 12 are both fire but I just love the beatbox battle and the way they blended both songs so seamlessly to tell a visual and vocal story.

12 is my favorite - to me - it is when PTX “became” PTX.

Yeah, this one took a lot of coordination, and they were right on. Just imagine Mitch having to harmonize 4 notes with Scott then 5 notes with Kirstie, then 3 notes with Scott - WHEW! What a great group of judges, too, mostly positive, but not afraid to point out things to work on, especially Ben. I think he pissed off some fans, but PTX took everything he said to heart. There are three more performances - #12 Dog Days, #13 Without You and #14 Una Noche. Looking forward to each of them.

FANTASTIC! I loved this one! Yes, the 12th version is the last "sort of". 13th is when individual judges sing with the remaining groups. (if I remember correctly) Either way, looking forward to your reaction!

The challenge was to create a "master mix." I'm not certain what that means, but PTX apparently thought it meant "mash-up" so I'm inclined to go with that definition. The other bands just produced medleys for that performance.
Regarding the stuff at the beginning where the camera was following them around and they were talking about their anxieties, the producers had made it plain that they wanted to hear angst, disagreements, serious worry, so Pentatonix obliged them. In some cases it's fairly obvious that they're just following a script that they think the producers will like. For instance, when Kevin is talking about how worried they are, the words are there but his tone of voice is remarkably cheerful for a person who's genuinely worried - I felt like he was *thinking* "Just wait until you hear my little duet with Avi!" When everyone jumped on Kirstie for singing an extra line, hmmm. Strange how we didn't actually *hear* her sing an extra line, don't you think? But when Scott talked about how exhausted they all were and how tired their voices were that was clearly genuine; the schedule on _The Sing-Off_ was brutal, so there was no way that could be untrue.

I remember this one well. They were the first performance of the night. So can you imagine having to follow that.
The challenge for the week was to make a mega mix of two completely different songs. Which is why many people didn’t like this performance. The just don’t know how hard this was to do. And they killed it.
I liked Dartmouth Aries performance this night to. Rolling Stones Sympathy for the Devil and Lady Gaga Born this Way.

Technically speaking, there are 3 more performances. #12, which is where they unleash the Mitch beast, #13, where the sound system was wonky and isn't very good, there's a performance with nick leshay, but isn't judged, just fun, and the performances from the finale of season 4.

  • @Sate12

12 is fun because from the beginning 5 people know what will happen when Mitch is finally allowed "off the leash" and they are standing on the stage.

I like this one best than the 10, i like more this songs and the mix, but Scott sing in the 10 was incredible. And you could see that the Judges were lowered them a bit, that is to say, they lowered the positive, I suppose so as not to show favoritism

After #10, they just kept improving thru #12. There are actually four more performances after this one, including the after-winning performance. It got a little rough again on #13, but they had already wrapped it up by then (and by then it was all viewer's choice and no longer judged). #14 is kinda fun (they sing with Nick Lachey) and #15 is after their declared champions. It was the closing credits of the finale and gets cut off about 40 seconds into it as the show was over.

It is interesting to note that the judges sent groups home until they get to the top 3 and then it is based on the public voting. So after the 12 performance, it didn’t matter how they did because the voting was over.

If you enjoyed PTX on The Sing-Off, when you're done with their share of the competition, you might enjoy reacting to the Opening Numbers for each show. They put together all the groups remaining each week in a massed number. I think only one Reactor has dealt with these, and they're a lot of fun (you can see Scott -- and Kevin -- given solo responsibilities from the start, Kirstie gradually gaining confidence, Mitch being featured more and more, and Avi happy to be buried in back so he didn't have to do choreography :) ). They're short, so you could handle several at a time, and they've been collected in a playlist. Your choice, of course.

I have so been enjoying this journey with you! Thanks for all your great reactions. There are a couple of less impressive performances after #12, but my favourite to watch after the 12th is their return performance to the Sing-Off the following year. By then PTX are hitting their stride in the big leagues, and return to the stage of their first performance as a group to sing "I Need Your Love" It's a great bit of nostalgia.

    • @larrywt656
      @larrywt656 3 года назад +1

The return performance was the next season for The Sing Off, but it was actually two years later. Thanks to the legal fallout over Sony dropping Pentatonix from their promised record deal, The Sing Off went on hiatus in 2012 as the lawyers for both sides battled it out. Right about the time that the 2012 season was SUPPOSED to be starting production, Sony finally brought PTX back on the smaller Madison Gate label...but they still were in the process of negotiating whether there would be a record deal on the line if The Sing Off ever proceeded. For 2013, a similar smaller arrangement (including a lesser cash prize) was put up for that season's winner (which would be Home Free). But right before season four of The Sing Off concluded, PTX's Daft Punk went viral and became their first international hit, causing Sony to bump them up to RCA. As a result, Home Free also got the big contract when they won, as PTX had finally proved to Sony that a cappella WOULD sell.

@@larrywt656 You are always full of great information, Larry! I was having a hard time sorting out the dates, because after their return performance the host mentions their new record coming out, PTX Vol. 2. It seemed unlikely they had released two records in the one year, plus all the other accomplishments he listed. This explains it. I wasn't aware that Season 4 didn't follow immediately from Season 3, but it certainly makes sense the producers would have issues with Sony after reneging on their agreement. Thanks for clearing up those details.
