  • Al canto di "Heave away, me Johnny", il veliero del capitano Ahab parte per il giro del mondo a caccia di balene.
    First song: Blood Red Roses
Our boots and clothes are all in pawn
Go down, you blood red roses, Go down
It's mighty drafty 'round Cape Horn
Go down, you blood red roses, Go down
    Oh, you pinks and posies
Go down, you blood red roses, Go down
But it's round Cape Horn that we must go
Go down, you blood red roses, Go down
For that is where them whalefish blow
Go down, you blood red roses, Go down
Second song: Heave away my Johnny
There's some that's bound for New York town
and some that's bound for France
Heave away me Johnny, heave away
And some that's bound for the Bengal Bay
To teach them whales to dance
Heave away me Johnny boy, we're all bound to go
Come all you hard working sailor lads
Who round the cape of storm
Heave away me Johnny, heave away
Be sure your boots and oilskins on
Or you'll wish you never was born
Heave away me Johnny boy, we're all bound to go

    First song:
    Blood Red Roses
    Second song:
    Heave Away Me Johnny
Both of these songs are sung by the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem

Hopefully this translates well for you: sailors actually didn’t like having their wives and children wave goodbye to them because they felt it implied that they would never come home again. Unfortunately it happened a lot

I love that your channel has the translation although it's not the English version of the film.
When I was in 5th grade I was visiting at my friend's house at about 6 pm in the dead of winter in San Bruno, CA, and we were watching the movie on a rare color TV and I was surprised I liked "Moby Dick" after having been indoctrinated by other kids at what a dull book this "Moby Dick" was only to see this. My mom picked me up to go home and I could hardly wait to get home and keep watching the film, although our TV had trouble getting that channel in very well.
Sometimes I think that when we only saw things when some TV station showed them made them matter more. You had to rely on your memory to watch the movie in your head again, or if you were lucky, used a cassette recorder to capture the sound and imagine the movie in your head, like I did with "King Kong" and "Bride of Frankenstein" over and over.
    🧟‍♂

Life and society was so much better back then I'd give just about anything to do away with the internet and ai smart tech etc.
It's one big poison pill we're all collectively biting off and it's destroying society.

It's a classic old folk song, I knew an old man who looked like Father Mapple who played it on his guitar.
