Omg i remember reading the one about the toy animal the little girl made!! I agree both the adults were so rude and probably wrecked her confidence about crocheting or pursuing creative projects in general for a while. Happened to me over not playing piano good enough as a child having to practice around my family, it made me stop playing for years and years and it’s still hard to get back into it smh. I’m glad to have crochet though finally!

when i started working on plushies a friend of mine kept laughing at them and comparing them to HIGHLY inappropriate things even though they looked nothing like that (double checked with literally everyone i knew) and it really set me back. destroyed my confidence. i am now able to make things for other people but she often complains that she never gets anything from me. like yeah youre really mean about and in the rare occasion i did make her something she never took care of it and left it on the floor and constantly used it as a walking mat when it was a beanie i was an adult, cant imagine how that 12 year old girl felt. she probably made him something because he was her favorite family member or something along those lines. and he quickly betrayed her just so he can have a quick laugh
Ooh I really hope the last OP dumps the boyfriend, sounds like he sucks 👀 my ex got upset with me for knitting while we were playing D&D (during times when it wasn't my turn in combat or we were doing RP stuff, plus it was generally really repetitive stuff like just stocking stitch in the round) but it genuinely really helped me focus more on what was actually happening because I wasn't so distracted by needing to fidget! New 10/10 long-distance boyfriend thinks the crochet and knitting is very cool, plus I'm making him some video game themed fingerless gloves ☺
Ok, the one where the niece made the stuffed animal…everyone in that story except the kid is a total a-hole! Part of that is because I love all stuffed animals, but seriously, shame on every adult in that story. When I was 12 I would have been absolutely crushed by that and probably never would crochet again until I was like 40. F’kin terrible!!
