So here is what I ended up doing in our newly started BECMI campaign: tl;dr version: I ran two concurrent plots with Davinos' Complaint and the public unrest being due to the Veiled Society, but Lucia's murder and the hidden HQ being an Iron Ring operation in retaliation of being ousted from their hideaway in Castle Caldwell. 1. Start with Castle Caldwell, except it is Skarda's old (fortified) mansion (see Skarda's Mirror) and the new buyer is none other than Fortunato Vorloi. When he is hiring the PCs, his lovely young daughter, Lucia, shows up (and steals the PCs' hearts, at least that is what happened in our game). Once the PCs came to claim their reward, they had an opportunity to toss Stephanos Torenescu out of the Vorloi House, as he was getting a bit too insistent and rough with Lucia. 2. At the same time, I was sprinkling in Davinos' Complaint, and this is the actual Veiled Society plot to get the people riotous. 3. Not only that, but the Castle Caldwell was occupied by the Iron Ring slavers (in the basement), and this led them to a collision course with the Vorloi and the PCs, thus leading to the (accidental) murder of Lucia Vorloi. 4. The tunnels and the slaves were owned by the Iron Ring, so when the PCs explored it, they found Lucia's corpse, leading to a lot of cursing and declarations that Stephanos was a dead man. And no, there were no clues written in blood at all (I would have removed that part even if I hadn't change the murdering party). 5. They returned Lucia's body to her father, who obviously is distraught and will try to get her Raised ASAP. This is about as far as we got so far. But the plan is as follows: 6. Lucia gets Raised like right away. However, since Davinos has not been Raised (due to shenanigans by Alfred Olbrey), this helps the Veiled Society to whip the Traladaran crowds into more frenzy, leading to the riot scene. Hopefully the PCs will manage to catch the agitator, which helps them to solve Davinos' murder. 7. The escort mission is with THAT Lady Magda, being escorted to the Torenescu House. The Veiled Society intends to assassinate her and implant some forged documents on her that reveal the plans of another uprising, agreed upon by Aleksander Torenescu. Given who she is, and her known alliance with the Torenescus, it lends credence to the claims. Whole point of the Veiled Society plot is getting the Torenescus into trouble with the Duke. 8. The assassination attempt vs. the PCs is made by the Iron Ring, who are getting a wee bit upset by the constant trouble they are causing. And when the PCs track down the killer, that leads them to the Iron Ring hideout, where the big final showdown happens. Thus, I will keep the Veiled Society and Anton Radu around for longer.
Good video but there is one point you were a little off on. You mention that representatives from each family recruits the players but it's actually just the Radu and Torenescu, the Vorloi seem to stay out of most of the adventure except for that start, which makes them kind of irrelevant. An idea I had was to make the Vorloi the guards to the city, this is a contract between the Duke and the Vorloi which is why they are trying to maintain peace. When the riot breaks out it is Vorloi who are the horsemen and soldiers trying to stop it. Also I've been seeing those reprint posts on eBay and yes they are in some cases fraudulent. I find it weird that people are trying to get away with something like that for such a minor profit.
That's the weekend video. this is a remaster of a did 5 years ago where my computer wasn't working, so I did the entire video on my phone. It was awful In every sense of the word. I still have 15 more remasters to do of videos that don't live up to my current standards but I drop those sporadicly
@Mr_Welch I remember the original. I thought it was fine, but of course, you'll want it to be the best it can be. The snickering after saying Specularum got a little old. Just saying. Otherwise, great job, and thank you!
They're likely preying upon people who don't know they can buy a print-on-demand version. i.e. Any rookie who doesn't know DTRPG exists or, at least, that it offers PoD.
I'm probably too young to get the joke about specularum
The joke is the name's similarity with the medical instrument a Speculum which is used for gynologocial exams
@@peadarruane6582 uh huh, well that explains that. Thanks
@@peadarruane6582 Thus the brief clip of the pussycat.
The similarity caused the city to be renamed to Mirros as the female TSR employees wouldn't stop snickering.
@@Mr_Welch that makes sense honestly
So who is the bad guy?
oh its the guy trying to sell reprints
Probably Bargle....
She's still giggling at the name "Specularum"...
The TSR people I talk to are still snickering 40 years later
Thank you for making that point real clear.
Ah yes those fish tank and train accessories. Coupled with Lego and Playmobile parts when those could be afforded.

_+1 Aquarium Stores_ I have the most crowded fish tank now. Can't even see my fish unless I drop some flakes.
I wonder if any party has gone off the rails and played this like "A fist full of Dollars"?
Great Module.

@Mr. Welch I thought the kingdom of Undersea was going to be the next video? What happened to make you bump it?

There are plenty of reprint scammers on ebay these days. I really don't get why they bother, real collectors are going to know they're not original.

I always get the "Veiled Society" and the "Veiled Alliance" from Dark Sun confused.
Nice review overall, but damn that laugh is annoying.
Thanks. The joke didn't land unfortunately. When I used it for the Specularum video it was a kneeslapper. Tastes change quickly turns out
Yeah, that joke and the accompanying laugh ruined it for me too.
The specularum thing isn't that funny. It became so cringe as to make the video unwatchable.
