Yes and no. While the name is based on a real author as well as the ability based on a book, fictional Dazai, only got one trait of the Author. For the most part bsd Dazai is still fictional.

i feel so bad for dazai. he doesn't feel human since he doesn't feel any emotions, which is why his ability is called no longer human. his whole personality is an act. he just wants to escape life since he feels that his has no value. (and before ppl in the comments attack me daying this isn't true, read the book no longer human. after that you will see dazai and a whole different light.)

As a Dazai kin I love this playlist, but I personally feel bad for Dazai. He has to go through so much, he basically acts like someone he isn't. He's whole life is an act, yet he still acts fine so that others don't worry about him all the time. He doesn't feel human and it's upsetting. He makes suicide seem like an experiment, as if he's just testing to see if it will work or not. He's depressed and doesn't feel as if life is right. He shows no emotion due to what has happened to him, but yet he acts like nothing ever happened. He just wants someone who truly cares for someone, he wants a place he can truly call home. He wants a normal life yet he'll never get to have one. He said something about having a girlfriend who will just kill herself with him. That's what satisfies him, he thinks dying with someone will make him happy. All he wants and thinks is death and suicide. He wants to kill himself so bad that honestly, it's torturing him to even live. The sad part is, he's based off of a real human being.
I told my parents and sister that I'm depressed, and they wonder why would I be depressed when I have a healthy, loving, and caring family. And now I feel like I'm the problem. My mom cried because she think everything she has done to make me happy is worthless. I feel guilty for being depressed and it certainly did not help me get through it. Is there really any value in this thing we call living? I feel so tired right now, but I'm afraid of what comes after death. I fear not death, but hell.

Hell...well if you ask me I think that hell and paradise is not a part of the after life its a part of living, right now. Love represents paradise as you feel so happy and special when you experience it but of course love can hurt or any other thing that makes you want to die or makes you super tired this is hell. And i also like to believe that every each one of ur has a different paradise and a different hell.

You know I think I realized why I dazai was my favorite character, yeah he's funny and I totally simp for the dude but I realized that in a way I relate to him a bunch. I'm a hurt person who feels empty and hollow often. Even though I'm introverted I try to act outgoing and want to be a fun person to hang around with but deep down inside I'm hurting, and back then I often thought I was weak or just sensitive but I've been through a lot. I'm glad I'm not alone, despite this concept being joked about a ton a lot of people do it. I've been with good groups of people and bad groups of people, and each and every one of them has hurt me in one way or another. I remember when in my sophomore year of high school I thought about taking my life. I never hurt myself physically but I often thought about it. I'm glad I value life now and I'm glad I dont think that way. To the people that are reading this that are hurting inside, its okay, what your going through is something not nothing, your life has value, treasure that. There's a light at the end of the tunnel, I may have not found mine but if I'm sure I can find it then you can reach yours too.

People forget the author literally writes himself into this character, in fact in his book no longer human the main character has many parallels between the author and the anime character.
Dazai is a really complicated character, all of us don't really know what's up in his head, in bsd he's the one that is more like the real person his based on, Dazai is sad but acts happy all the time, real life him says about him self that he was born without a sence of humans, he couldn't understand them, he wasn't mentally strong enough to live in the world, there's a lot of thing we could say about him, but to understand better it would be uselful to read "no longer human" or watch Bungou to Alchemist (an anime totally based on novelists of those times) i love this character, i totally simp for him, he's my favourite
Sometimes the real reason to why I kin Dazai is because we have learned to hide our feelings so well, I can’t even tell myself apart.

The fact almost all of the people here can relate to Osamu Dazai (fiction and real life) screams how society never bothers to care for mental health.
I had sucidal tendencies, I used to cut my wrists. Even if I stopped some months ago, sometimes I feel urges to do it again. Maybe I'm depressed, but I feel I'm not bad enough to ask for professional help.
I hope our faint smiles will turn into real ones soon.

I also used to cut myself and stopped a few months ago it helped temporarily and made me feel better for some reason and I want to do it so bad sometimes but I can’t I have thrown all of my knives away but it didn’t help I am trying so hard I relate dazai because I don’t have emotions anymore and I have a made up personality so my personality is different every day
I also used to cut my wrist, and I still have these little white scars that remind me of it, though I hate talking about my feelings to people irl and strangers so I don't think a therapist would work
I relate to Dazai, I think that's what scares me. For years I've been depressed, and it was just a fact of life. I didn't dare label it, because that would've been admittance, but I knew it as well as my name. I see a lot of parellels between us, whether it be the way we plan (he is at a level I could only ever dream of being at), the difference in how 'friends' view us (I'm referencing Port Mafia/Agency) and I just love this man. Love this man because he seems like the embodiment of all of these things I've either been or have wanted to be, and in a way that sort of scares me

i haven’t started watching bsd yet but i can tell it’s gonna be good from the comments
bsd is my comfort anime/manga as well as one of the ones that destroy me, but i can’t help but going back because i easily relate to some of the characters.
i’m also a big literature fan and the fact that bsd’s characters are based on novelists/poets/etc from the 1900’s is nice as well (their books are amazing you should read them too) :]
After reading the book I finally started to understand Dazai's character a lot better and bro I was so wrong, I knew that he had a tragic past and that the smile on his face is a mask but there's so much more going on but the worst part is that I relate to him more than I thought I would
right after i read this book it became my favorite and I think it always will be
i love how all the characters from bsd are based off of book authors. I watched bsd after reading No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai before even making the connection that the Author and the character were the same person

It’s actually very dark, the fact that we can relate to dazai after suffering mentally for a long time we tend to turn numb we neglect emotions, then the real issue begins. Emotions is what makes us human. Once we neglect them we start getting detached from our human side that’s exactly is when we become no longer human.

I am severly depressed and for past few years everything is just getting worse. Now I can't cry anymore and it doesn't metter how hard I try. I feel numb. Everything makes me tired. All I can feel is burning feeling in the chest and anger. But anger isn't sadness. Anger is cause by hopelessnes. I feel so empty that I even trued doing things that in the past would make me sad just to feel anything but I fails. I have no view on the passing time due to no sleep schedule. Everything has no value and no point you just exist.
I was always afraid of feeling no longer human... Because I once had an episode of it that made me sick. And now everything is just how I imagined it few years ago when I had my first worse episode of depression when I reached for help but was ignored 😂 now it only got worse and I don't really know how long I will be walking this path before I snap and die already.
I know my mental health isn't all that good but the level of similarities I share with this guy is kinda scary. I mean anyone who read the book No Longer Human would know how exactly Dazai is and why he doesn't feel human and that's actually supposed to be unusual. Yet here we all are, being like that mentally. I wish when we were kids they would try to educate us about anxiety and depression, how to handle such inner turmoil, how to really truly be happy. If we were taught about such problems when we were little maybe, just maybe we could overcome this. I hope that somehow I'll be able to do something, anything for at least one person and maybe they might help someone else.
I want to bring a change in our educational system where there will be more realistic education about future. Real life situations. Not just maths and literature. Of course they're important too. But so is this. It's impossible to do this alone but I'll still try.

As someone who's been hyperfixated on bungou stray dogs for months, I swear this is the most accurate dazai playlist I've ever heard.
Living has became a bane of everyone here's existence. It's like they can't stand it anymore. Honestly I don't see anything wrong with it. It's become comforting to know that I'm different. But sometimes i doubt myself and i really wonder. Are they right? What even is the value of this thing called living? And then I doubt myself again and go back to being different.
I cleary don't see any value in the act they call living. Everything is just meaningless. I tried desperatly find reasons to live but all I found was simple things that won't hold my hand if I were to commit suicide. It is just not enough to stop me. Oh come on everyone know that stargazing, beautiful view, wind, sand, grass, sun, night, sky nice food is very nice it is all great stuff to have //rare stuff// but it is not something you can live for...
I can confidently say that a lot of us here likes Dazai because they relate to him a lot. And yes, that includes me. I too want to be free. For real. Life is just so tiring.🙂
Dazai is my comfort character cause we are alot alike....I don't feel human and I really don't think I ever had,my personality was literally built up from comics and TV shows I watched and read as a little kid.I never really related to anyone in this little world of mine. It really just the same thing every single day,repeating over,and over,again. I've come up with so many ways I could die and have in fact tried a few,but some are unrealistic. I'm just so tired.....

When I was small I saw my first pet which is a hamster, die in my hands. I didn't cry I just stared at it. When my friend died I didn't cry. I only cry whenever I am in trouble or something, I never cried tears of joy. I stopped caring about school or grades. But sometimes I do wish I could give a little care, or shed a single tear whenever I am told sad news. I remember that time I wished to be emotionless in my phase, like completely. Although I still cry and show emotions, I wish to care.

I'm not sure if it's just me but I feel like all the characters in the anime are too shallow to really understand how dazai feels. Sure it's very easy to understand his mask but whats hidden underneath there is an eternity of darkness. Every time I watch the anime or read the manga I can tell exactly what the character is planning but that isn't the case with osamu. And this is why bsd is my favourite anime.I can't understand what he is thinking but at the same time I relate to him so much.He is such an interesting character to analyse.Even irl he was such an interesting person.I've read all his books and i'm always amazed at the excellence of his writing. His choice of words are so beautiful yet devastating, just like him.
Why do people say "ppl forget that Dazai is based off a real author" like i know lol but the character is still different, even if it's based on the author it still holds his own characteristics- it's different, it's more like an OC, so the playlist has nothing to do with the real writer, both are super cool (and depressing lol, I've read no longer human and I know about the real Osamu Dazai) on their own way, this playlist still portraits super well BSD Dazai 🤷

No Longer Human, Shuji's very last book before he killed himself.
Author: Osamu Dazai (Shūji Tsushima) who Dazai Osamu from Bungo Stray Dogs was based off.
Skipping through what seemed to be a overview of his book, from what I've read so far, he was a beautiful human being who went through a lot. Considering that his last book was said to be his life's story or in other words suicide note.
Here's how he passed..
"After having a daughter out of wedlock, Osamu’s life began spiraling into turmoil once again. His mental health declined, causing him to become an alcoholic. Having been diagnosed with tuberculosis before the war, his health was not improving either. The last lady in Osamu Dazai’s life is Tome Yamazaki, who worked as a beautician in a salon. The two developed a relationship and started living together. During their time together, Osamu wrote his most popular novel of all-time - Ningen Shikkaku or No Longer Human. He was able to successfully finish the novel before successfully committing suicide one last time with Tomie. The two drowned themselves in a nearby river from their home." So considering the way our Dazai Osamu started off at the beginning of Bungo Stray Dogs tbh I love it but now knowing that feels like a laugh straight out of his literal passing, makes me alittle sad. But then again he fits the characteristics perfectly to what I read in the book; while I read the book (I'm still reading it) my username TheClownofLonely would seemingly match a good description to some of what was said in the book.
Because I love this playlist so much and longed for a „happier“ dazai myself, here’s a snippet of my POV:
You were sitting on the edge of that romantic bridge, which usually couples use to walk over, squished thightly together while confessing their love to each other.
It's so cheesy you'd always feel nauseous.
These were scenerios far away from what you've experienced.
Watching the water continously flow underneath you, a boisterous voice approached you with a reckless speed:
"Oi, Belladonna, wait for me! Don't jump so selfishly!"
You saw a brown-haired curly head in a trenchcoat eccentrically waving his bandaged hand at you.
By turning around and kind of startled, you nearly flumped down into water. Nearly.
Said bandaged hand grabbed you by your collar, thus tearing out a few strands of your hair.
"Oi, I said DON'T jump!",
he said energetically with a big smile on his face.
Your head hurt. It was either from the hair pulling or from the fact you nearly fell from that bridge.
Maybe it was due to the disarray caused by the odd situation with that man.
Not even asking, he pulled you up with both of his hands in order to place your butt a bit further away from the end of the bridge, so that your feet could still float in the air above the chasm.
As for himself, he took a seat casually right next to you, as if you would know each other very well.
While your right side shivered a bit from the light shock you just encountered, your left side on the other hand felt pleasantly warm. That's how closely he was sitting next to you.
He took off his coat, placing it quietly next to him.
A wave of embarassement overflowed and hindered you from turning your head to the right, though you itched to take a look at your droll saviour.
He unbuttoned his shirt.
How embarassing, you thought, that man thinks you just wanted to kill yourself. As my saviour he certainly wants to talk me out of it.
He pulled off his shirt.
Instead of thanking him, you stared dead ahead, when suddenly you could feel your right wrist getting tied up.
Turning your head you realized:
That man just tied your inner wrist, athwart, to his.
Naked from the waist up.
In order to tie you up, he used his own bandages, which seemingly must have covered his whole forearm.
His now uncovered skin displayed his arm,
covered in scars.
Deep cut scars.
By now you were bound to him.

I feel like those who hate dazai don't really understand his character. or maybe it's because I like characters not based on their morals but their complexity, and dazai provides one hell of a complex character . I relate to him more than I'd like to admit and yet it's hard figuring out his next move and what he's thinking. sure he's done some evil stuff but he's also made progress with the ada and everything which I feel like a lot of people ignore. of course this is just my opinion and people are entitled to theirs

Uh- this is probably gonna be a long rant but I just really needed to get this off my chest- so don't bother reading this-
I've always been torn between Kinning Dazai and Atsushi (but more so Dazai), and its always troubling because they are the complete opposite of each other. This makes me have some sort of love-hate feeling towards them, I love them as characters and how complex they are but I hate how much I relate to them both. My mind is very . . . contradicting, I guess. I don't really see the value in life, we're just a bunch of living dirt that will inevitably fall to our demise, yet I see it as a long, excruciating test of some sort. I constantly have suicidal thoughts (which I've yet to know if they are serious or not) yet I desperately cling on to life, not in fear of death itself, but more of what comes after it. I hate pain, but really its mostly only physical pain. For some reason I don't mind any sort of mental/emotional pain (perhaps its because of my craving to feel something other than numbness?). And I've also been trying to change myself ever since quarantine started, I realized just how shitty I acted towards my friends which what lead to me losing them anyway, even the friends I kept in contact with revealed they saw me as an annoying jerk in the past. But honestly? The past can't be undone, and that's the very thing I'm somehow afraid of.
Uh- if you've managed to read until the end of this very long rant then I'm sorry for burdening you- wow this sounds like some sort of inner monologue-
Hello! I just wanna write to message to reassure you that you're not alone. I too, kin characters with contrasting personalities (Hinata & Kageyama from Haikyuu, Hu Tao and Xiao from Genshin Impact...) because I absolutely hate social interactions but yet I crave attention and is super talkative. I know that I am a super horrible person and I act shitty towards my friend. The worst thing is that when I apologised I got horrible responses and it has haunted me for months already, and probably will be years. I am trying to cling onto life too, because I know ending it won't be worth it. I hate myself for being so selfish, so emotional and so hypocritical.
However, I know that you are strong. Strong enough to carry the guilt of how you were a jerk. You are already strong enough to realise that. However, if you can't change yourself, don't beat yourself up over it. Trust me, it hurts. Give yourself time. There is enough time. Take it slow. Find someone you can trust because it sucks to carry it on your own shoulders, by yourself. I wish you luck. Stay healthy

I have been listening to Dazai playlists all day today, and yes I do have self-diagnosed depression/mood swings. BUT TODAY IS ACTUALLY A GOOD DAY-. And I cannot, I turned onto this playlist and google threw me an ad for something called "Real-Therapy" and I started cackling, like "WRONG DAY TO SEND ME THAT MAN LMAO"

As a human being, we all struggle with depression, mental illnesses, and hurt. The weak will not seek help, and the strong will know when to ask for help. The only way humanity has lasted this long is because of compassion, cooperation, and friendship. Never forget that you are not weak if you need help. It will seem like its a burden to lay all your troubles on someone else, but they may make those issues dissolve.
Hey, you might want to hear it... I 3 years ago had my first bad episode of depression and I asked few times openly for help from my mother who understands that depression exists (she have one too btw) And she did fucking nothing. I countless times asked for help or at least an appointment to psychologist but she did NOTHING. Two days ago I confirmed her that I don't need her (shitty) help anymore and she can just forget it. It is not like it is any better by now but I just give up.
I am no longer human- have no positive emotions and the only times I feeo something is when in act of hoplessnes I get angry. But I don't feel sad anymore I kind of get used to it. That nothing metters whatever you do. It is no problem to die and it makes no difrence either way if you die or live but I chosed to live wothout a value in life. I chosed to live and suffer everyday. To everyday bare my burdens, toughts and problems. To live with desire to die. This hurts but it doesn't metter. No one cares. But if I were to choose between the side that saves people and the side that kills, I rather choose savong people because it makes you slightly more beautiful...
