    It's also nice how you can push the spatula into the food cooking one handed to remove it without having to hold the pan, and the pan doesn't slide off the center of the heat source like on a regular stove. The force holds it centered for you.
    Now U can levitate a tea kettle with 2 cups of water and have it whistling as it rotates in a circle.
    There's a host of practical applications that can be invoked with this as well.

    This is awesome! How much did it cost to build this? Also is it able to levitate items larger than the outside coils/table or would it become unstable due to the overlap or lack of Amps? Great work & a very entertaining idea to show both the levitation & heat produced! :D

    Just wanted to work the math!

    • @LightningOnDemand
      @LightningOnDemand  3 года назад +6

      Ah, the 1000A is circulating in the pan, which is only one turn, so 1000ampere-turns total. Those ampere-turns come from the coils, which have many more turns, so run at less current.
      Finally, the large circulating currents don't flow back through the electric meter, only the smaller make-up currents do. Those are only about 10A, or 2400W total that the meter sees.

    Cooktops in 2050:

    • @Fritz_Schlunder
      @Fritz_Schlunder 4 месяца назад

      I think not. Floating pans may be cool looking, but it primarily adds novelty value to the cooking experience, without having any real practicality benefit. Such a system like shown in the video is more appropriate for manipulating antimatter plates made of antimatter lithium, without touching them, than it is for everyday cooking.
      In order for cooking tool innovations to be more than a fad, it needs to add something practical.
      In other words, the future of cooking tools needs to improve something tangible, such as one or more of the following: enhanced cooking speed, easier cleanup, greater comfort for the operator, less effort for the operator, somehow tastier food products and/or food products with better perceived texture.
      Cooking speed can be enhanced by integrating a high power infrared (IR) emitter array of well collimated downward pointing beams in the upper portion of the cooking range. Assuming a normal camera watches the pans and the cooking surface, individual IR emitters could be turned off dynamically (like individual pixels on an LCD screen) when no pan was under the beam area, and/or, if a human hand or arm was detected in the beam area. With such a system, it would be possible to apply heat to both the top of the food surface, as well as to the bottom of the food via contact with the pan, thus cooking the food from both sides simultaneously.
      Another method of enhancing cooking speed, is to preheat the food electromagnetically to near 100 Celsius internally, prior to transferring the food to a more conventional cooking surface or oven (ex: for searing the surface). An ordinary microwave oven can partially accomplish this, but current generation microwave ovens are severely underpowered (and thus do not adequately accelerate pre-heating speed to be worthwhile to many human chefs, although some do still use them for pre-defrosting frozen items). Current generation microwave ovens also normally operate at a wavelength that does not penetrate too deeply into many food items, thus causing uneven heating (especially noticeable when heating larger frozen items, such as a thick burrito).
      Increasing the heating rate of a microwave oven is easy enough by simply using a more powerful magnetron tube and associated household wiring. However, doing so (without microwave oven modifications) will cause the food to "explode", as excessively rapid heating of water laden food items can often cause "superheating" of the water beyond the boiling point. When pockets of superheated (beyond 100 C) liquid water form inside the food, these later flash to steam and create small explosions originating from the interior of the food, thus making a mess inside the microwave oven. This problem can be reduced by mechanically shaking the food rather aggressively while it is being rapidly heated. Shaking can help to quickly cause water pockets that are on the verge of passing 100 C and becoming superheated, to quickly start boiling, rather than heating past 100 C and becoming subject to sudden flashing to steam. Food shaking during heating can potentially be implemented with a speaker like device under the turntable plate inside the microwave oven. Potentially, the shaking can be performed ultrasonically, so as not be audible to humans.
      The lack of penetration depth of common 2.45 GHz microwaves in many denser food items causes uneven heating of many food items. Many frozen food items with considerable water content will only heat rapidly within the first centimeter or so of penetration depth, with much reduced heating rates deeper inside the food item. This problem can be reduced by using different wavelengths of electromagnetic radiation (beyond the standard 2.45 GHz frequency commonly used in current generation microwave ovens). For example, X-rays can penetrate much deeper through watery food items, potentially all the way through, with comparatively low attenuation rates. However, X-rays may not be the best choice for heating food, as X-rays are ionizing and can chemically alter the food in certain ways different from simply thermal/heating effects. Perhaps a more practical solution to this problem, is to modify the food itself (such as by cutting it into thinner slices at the food factory, prior to freezing and/or acquisition and handling by the consumer). Additionally, microwave ovens can be modified to elevate the food off the bottom metal surface of the microwave oven, and by adding more microwave sources (effectively originating from all angles with respect to the food surfaces, including from directly above and below the food), so as to provide more even and functionally deeper heating of the food.
