This is so helpful. Just started working at a design studio and realized how school is so different compared to actually working in a studio. Design thinking is waaaayyy faster and you tend to forget about all these important principles/ elements!
I watched the whole stream the other day. But these bits and pieces still manage to sound very new and informative. You guys are just Type gods. (I'm an architect, this knowledge of Type on these sessions is being extremely useful to summarize my experience in designing buildings. Its like reducing complex universal visual concepts into its basic forms. And you make it available for free, cannot thank and admire you enough).
Design and music production are similar. If your mix sounds muddy or cluttered, you've got to "mute" individual instruments and voices to find out which single element or combination of elements are clashing. Sometimes a minor EQ tweak and level adjustment will fix the balance. But oftentimes, the clash happens because an instrument/voice is not a good fit with the whole, no matter how much you tweak. Then, you either need to rerecord the voice/instrument, or replace it with something completely different. The same can be said of type, colour, texture, negative space... One or a combination of elements can either elevate or spoil the whole.
This tutorial series is amazing. The instructor has obviously mastered his craft, and he's a gifted teacher. Usually a person is a great craftsman or a great teacher. It's rare for one person to have both skills. I've tried teaching myself design by reading books, but I never could implement the concepts. Learning design has been very frustraiting for me. I think these videos may be the key that I've been looking for.
Just 15 min ago I was cheking if there is a new notifications from you lol ..And this video is so important for me now after I did more than 400 layout last month.. Thank you so much for sharing this for free .Love from Algeria
I love these videos that bring things back to basics and simplifying where possible. I'm curious if you could approach a page with extremely dense text/information on it in the same way? I recently worked with a client who only wanted to pack as much content onto one page as possible, and it would often compromise a lot of potential design elements (or at least completely change the design that was in place). Keep it up and thank you for these vids!
"so here we have a cluster f*ck. Let me show you how simple alignment can clear up this cluster f*ck. Wow, look, I did magic" How do I get that 7 minutes and 42 seconds of my life back?
The Futur teachs me more about Graphic Design than my University Teachers. Thank you so much for bringing amazing content.
You're very welcome!
I could not agree more:)
I got my diploma in design litterally 3 days ago and this guy is teaching better than anyone I've seen in the past 3 years
Appreciate it. Sorry to hear about the other part.
I love how she explained proximity, the definition of with such eloquence, thank you
Milka is wonderfully knowledgeable at design.

Great way of looking at the composition in a detached sort of way with the blocks. Thanks for the tips, Chris!

I'll work so that I can afford your course for sure, i know in my heart it's more than worth it
We have his typography course and it is well worth it! Have to open it from time to time to get those keyboard short commands! Keep going!
sigh of relief when u aligned it to left at 4:08 😀
Loved it. Thanks yet again :)

Illustrator, Coreldraw, etc should have a display mode for groups to display as shaded boxes.
Would be nice
What's that illustrator tool panel on the left? Looks insane. Is that some kind of plugin that adds more tools?

Chris! You country clown.
You're fucking good.
No, Chris, the arrangement of the boxes in the layout doesn't look interesting whatsoever! Nice short vid, amigo!!
I have to say that the initial layout is extremely bad. I call it "funky" for the sake of being "funky".
adsa
Does Chris have corona?
