I don't think we will get another Splinter Cell at least not for a while. Ubisoft is wanting to focus on new franchises like Watch Dogs not continue to make sequels to older franchises. Which is probably for the best, as much as I love Splinter Cell we have 6 of them, time for something new. Although it could happen both Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six have gotten newer versions in the form of Wildlands and Siege. Even Assassin's Creed is being revamped in the form of Empire. But still seems like a long shot to get another Splinter Cell when Ubisoft has so many other projects on go at the moment, I hope I am wrong but I don't think I am...
MrDueltube No, WatchDog's stealth was extremely lacking to say the least. It had the most extreme basic stealth system, you simply cannot compare the two.
More like a mediocre imitation of the original form. The stealth mechanics are just as shallow as in Conviction, you just have to rely on them more. The fact that they kept the Mark & Execute cheat code - sorry, feature - says it all.
Mattchester No. The first 2 are pretty badly designed. Chaos Theory is undeniably brilliant, anyway Blacklist streamlined the series in the right ways. And I don't see the complaint in a feature thats never required to use, and especially when the game disables it for you in the highest difficulty.
Noble Alfred The quality of Watch Dogs stealth is not what I am talking about. It is still designed in the same way be it poor or great or somewhere in the middle. I wouldn't say the Watch Dogs stealth system is really anything to brag about nor would I say it's terrible. I would say it's just an average stealth system really. But Ubisoft Montreal is one of the developers that reuse a lot of gameplay mechanics in their games. This is one such example they basically just took the stealth from Conviction & put it in Watch Dogs. Just that way, I still think Watch Dogs was a really fun game and I hope the franchise can improve in the second game but don't hold your breath waiting on a new Splinter Cell. Unless that rumor about Michael Ironside being spotted at Ubisoft Montreal's studio is actually true...
Ubisoft tried so hard return to their old roots, but still missed by miles. Here's whats wrong with Blacklist: No charm, no humorous interrogation with bad guys, no variety in levels (chaos theory covered so many grounds in terms of atmosphere and character) and most importantly no Amon Tobin, the mastermind behind Chaos Theory's espionage music. No Ironside. -.- Chaos? Theory was all about taking your time, and execute guards slowly one by one with suave. Conviction had better story too. -.-
*you can distract your enemy in Conviction with the pistol, If you shoot a bullet somewhere in his present area(not too close to him) he will be scared and check the spot where you shot, something the first 2 Splinter Cell games had :) (yes, CT and DA did not have that) Blacklist sadly removed that
Blacklist had other means of distracting enemies though like Sam whispering or saying something (press select to do this), making noise by running around or gadgets like the sticky camera, sticky noisemaker and tri-rotor drone.
@@ashleythomas4112 I was originally talking about the option of using your pistol ammo as a noisemaker. Sometimes Blacklist's system glitches out and alerts everyone that an enemy is in the area, ruining the ghosting playthroughs.
i lasted about ten minutes before it became apparent this dumbed-down self-playing over-cinematic super-easy shooting gallery bears no resemblance to the splinter cell games that got me hooked. within eleven minutes i was uninstalling it. it's truly awful
@Cat4evar definitely recommend you to get this game because you basically have the choice to fully stealth, partially stealth, or even no stealth at all and if you combine these ways to play this game it will be an amazing experience
@thebehmont1 i only said it LOOKS like that. is this Xox exclusive? i wanted to get it, or atleast hit it up online, and i only saw the box version. i liked SC3 CT on the Ps2 a lot :)
This is the best Splinter Cell game in the series..Byfar..The graphics are amazing, the gameplay is slick and fluid, the new features are awesome..Honestly if you love FPS games and you don't have this you're missing out..
I think splinter cell really wanted to try something here, they had 4 games of complete stealth and this change of pace really adds a new depth to the game. Who cares if you can't pick locks or move bodies? Every other aspect has been expanded.
im sorry but if anyone has a problem with this game about the difficulty in the story. Try playing the game on realistic on your first play through, trust me you will need to use your gadgets, like your camera to see how many people are in the room before you run in with your machine gun. You will find yourself running to a corner or hiding behind cover to recover your health whilst trying to figure out your next move when you get ambushed from all angles. This is really good game. Buy it.
I can make up my mind between this review and ign. Do you guys think it's work it? I've played Splinter Cell Games before, but they always seemed boring and just so frustrating sometimes. Is this one the best?
So for $15 this game would be a good buy? I'm trying to catch up on all the games I've missed. After I get and finish Dead Space 2 I'll be working on this and New Vegas most likely
Splinter Cell conviction is seriously awesome. All I hear from most people is blah blah blah I want stealth back. To all of you I say: Go on realistic, pull out your assault rifle, and see how far you get.
@Foxtrot323 - hey man i ben thinkin about buying this game, is it as good as chaos theory? and is it a short game? im jus wunderin dude, im wanting to get it but i need an opinion.
@assassinator64 it does? I fail to see why, you can send messages to other players... thats the prime communication focus right there. The Bluetooth works well too (this depends solely on the player's bluetooth and if they have a bad bluetooth headset, then thats the player's fault, not Sony's).
@xkill3rx I think it'd be nice if they'd combine the 2 types: Give players the possibility to perform these awesome action moves, but reward them if they can get through a level without killing a single enemy. Or reward them with more melee bonuses if they take out much enemy's and reward them with more stealthy/gadget upgrades if they leave the foes be. What do u think of this? btw, I think conviction will be pretty cool, but not as nice a Chaos Theory. And Double Agent sucked reeaally bad XD
In the co-op mode, is it split-screen and online? I wanna play with my bro but then i might also wanna team up with a random person, also is it mic compatible?
@joeldunsdon I agree. I, for instance, like playing Deniable Ops as stealthy as possible, meaning I don't shoot lights to avoid alerting gaurds, and I take the gaurds as a human shield to take them out somewhere where they are hard to spot. It's really how you play the game that defines how much of a stealth game it is for you. You can run around with an AK if you want, but that way you're not getting the full Splinter Cell experience in my opinion.
no lock-picking + no body hiding makes it sound like there's no thought needed anymore in how you approach your objective. lock-picking especially made you focus on timing something right, which used to be a very important part of stealth. Now it seems as long your gun is silenced and you kill everyone from behind an object they get to call that stealth and get away with it. This is just an action game imo.
@TheMango121 I didn't say that it gets stale--I said that PEOPLE say that it starts to get stale. I'm actually a gamer who doesn't like a big change in a series, but in this case, I thought that Conviction was a nice addition to the series. BTW, if you haven't played Conviction yet, you should play it and give it a chance before you suddenly decide it's so bad.
@Number1as1an: while i respect ur point, i still believe Chaos Theory was the best thing ubisoft has ever offered in the splinter cell genres. With conviction, we cant pick locks, body's, hack, etc...I wish i they made a game that suited me but there are millions of splinter cell fans out there and the confidence interval matters. No matter what, I'll stay with Sam Fisher
Looks dated? Rough around the edges? Are you fucking joking, the first time I saw gameplay for this game I was blown away. Unlike most of these shit stained awful looking games that DO have dated visuals, Conviction looks truly great, advanced lighting and shadows it's all smooth and looks appealing to the eye, it looks a like a good 2010 game should look like.
I thought this game had a competitive mulitiplayer mode?, I pre-ordered the Special edition for friday, and can't wait, but I'd really liked the same type of mulitiplayer from double agent to return again!
I suck at stealth games but this looks really good. Has anyone played it? Would you say it's more stealth or action? Do you think I would be able to play it?
despite the short campaign, i will still love this splinter cell game, like the others in the serie, i hope the franchise will continue long after conviction......sam fisher, you rock \m/
this is hands down the best splinter cell yet... im not to interested in sitting still for 5 mins watching the enemy walk there programmed path before i make my move... or be taken out of the experience all the time from being spotted. i believe the combination of stealth and action in this one is perfectly balanced and it makes for a much more enjoyable game.
Ok, alright i'm gonna straighten a few things out with these reviews. Conviction is an amazing game, i know opinion right? Let me explain, past splinter cell games (PS2 ones mainly) You had to sneak around and stuff, because you were working for an agency who needed you to be silent. Sam is rogue, he gives a damn less about sneaking, he's pissed, why lock pick a door when you can bash it? lol And the iraq level, is smart for introducing victor, it shows the trust between him and sam. 9.8/10
Conviction was made with the intention to make the stealth genre more accessible to the public by dumbing down the qualities of its predecessors and working in a hackneyed soap opera plot about revenge, anger, betrayal, role of PMCs zzz... 'She was alive all along' huhaha! Chaos Theory and Blacklist remain good games, though the latter's plot is as contrived as an episode of 24 with none of the self-reflecting social commentary about the role of the US in the world. Mark and execute = too lazy to take on enemies one by one.
Check out justanotheraccount's channel. He found a way to ghost every mission as much as the game allowed, with exceptions like protecting the computer in White Box, and mistakingly thinking you have to kill the enemies on the memorial level, he maintains a kill free gameplay.
@azerskater I would respectfully disagree. I just started playing Chaos Theory again today and everything from the multi-tiered map layout to the enemy placement to the artificial intelligence to the difficulty curve is nothing short of brilliant. Yes,you could stand in a corner and try to memorize the guard's pattern but there is so much more. I have finished the game up to the last mission without killing or alerting a single guard. It was extremely challenging and satisfying. You shout try it.
@ImGoingInSolo well if you were paying more attention to the story at the beggining when he is with his daughter in her bedroom he talks about the dark and how when your eye adjusts you can see things you couldnt in the light
The old ones aren't clunky and they're suppose to be slow paced because it's a stealth game. Just because it's slow paced, doesn't mean it's clunky. In fact. You could move more smoothly in Chaos Theory, just not as fast so try not mixing that up. This is an action game and it's going to be fast paced so arguing action and stealth doesn't come together well.
@Rothm634 Well I've been thinking about it, and I think two pros for each would be the fact that Sam Fisher is a better developed character (more realistic, more hardened fighter, more fleshed-out personality), but MGS has been around longer, so it has had more of a chance to gather a following than Splinter Cell. I have a feeling that might change though.
I'm just going out on a limb here and saying that while this doesn't look as stealthy as the previous games I've heard about, it looks like a better choice for someone (Like Me) who was thinking about buying Blood Stone or the Bourne Conspiracy. Third person, hand to hand combat, Cover system, gun and fist executions, good multiplayer... Just saying.
I really hope they will pick up the stealth again. That was the charm about Splinter Cell, and that's why I played it. I hope they havent ruined the whole series in Conviction, I doubt it but... we'll see
@14TylerA This is nothing like the other splinter cell games. Now it's action with a hint of stealth instead of stealth with a hint of action. The whole point of splinter cell was to not be seen, stay in the shadows and silently take down your enemies. Not 1 hit everybody with mark and exectute.
@muchohumptyhump I see were your coming from, but i have a feeling ubisoft wanted this game to be fun on a wide spectrum of things, they dulled down the stealth a little bit, but made the game overall more interesting to play. overall i say IN MY OPINION this game is the best splintercell of the series, BESIDES the stealth, which i still enjoy.
@addictingcom very VERY true. what made splinter cell an original game was the stealth. you weren't supposed to kill people in the first place and if you had to, you would need to hide his body. now it's just "hi i see you...NOW DIE" this game totally defeats the purpose of stealth and takes away the originality that the series had. i honestly felt like i was playing the bootleg version of uncharted that had SOME stealth elements...... i just wished he game would stay original the way it was b4
This game is solid nd im fine with it.... Its just imo stealth was what made splinter cell awesome. Now its just a typical badass action game with the best highlight about it being the mark and execute
This game is awesome. I love Conviction more then any other Splinter Cell game. The fast paced gameplay is just right for me, if you want to sneak around, and throw coins to distract guards, and move around bodies. Then plz. Play Fucking Hitman and stop whining -.-
I liked splinter conviction (Even tho there's not as much stealth involved unlike the other splinter cell games) But there's a good reason why there isn't as much stealth in this game.
@Person13572468 Double agent was great I agree. But I thought Conviction was a nice, fresh twist in the series. I think that, in truth, everyone just misses the less-personal story, and the fact that Sam might not be a Splinter Cell again (I would have to agree with that). It's not the gameplay, or the fact that Sam is more brutal and less careful, it's the STORY. I also miss the ol' Chaos Theory/Double Agent feeling of being sent on a mission to protect the Government as an agent.
@cbuma Don't bash the game like that. The designers were simply trying to keep the series alive by not repeating the exact same thing over again. If Conviction had been more like the previous games, then everyone would bash it for "being too repetitive and not inovative enough." I wish people would stop complaining about every little thing. If everyone has so much to find fault with, why don't they try to make the game themselves and see how well they could do with it?????
I don't understand the folks here whining of lack of stealth, as it there in the game even in the old versions there were scenarios where stealth would do you no good I hated these scenarios and hate even in this one where you have to deal alone against swarm of enemies assaulting you in one dense room which IMO realistically impossible to survive I think these are supposed to be as boss levels exist as well in rainbow six Vegas 1 and 2
I first played SC1 when I was a kid and was completely enamored by the political intrigue and the maturity of the game. Conviction is a huge step back for both stealth as a genre, which is what Splinter Cell is at its core, and for Ubi as a game developer. It's a trash title, made for trash reasons and brings nothing new to the table at all. It's liked only by the immature, the console fucktards, and the idiots who don't care about a coherent gaming experience. End of story.
As most people are saying i think you can look at any past SC game and see the major difference but on the other hand i'm at least glad with the fact that they brought back the co-op.... I was sad that DA didn't have co-op >.> so.. its not a complete loss but this game could have been far better!
I don't know if its the best splinter cell because its different and nobody could really say... But what i know is even if i loved previous splinter cell games i loved that too, and deffinitelly would like it to stay this way for 1-2 games more
Yeah I prefer the toned-down gameplay. The one in the previous splinter cell titles just seemed too clunky and unwieldy and slowed down the pace of the game. Here the gameplay is slick and uncluttered - this coupled with its awesome storytelling and presentation makes the game feel like much more of an experience and less an exercise imo.
@azerskater I honestly don't find itappealing. The enemies are pretty much brain dead, the binary dark-bright system is so inferior to the light meter in previous splinter cells that now you could "sneak" behind enemies easily in a half-lit room where even an idiot could recognize Sam. The cover system is great for a shooter, but unnecessary for a stealth experience. Conviction is a great game on its own but it doesn't deserve a splinter cell name.
"A more approachable kind of stealth" Yeah, dumbed-down to endless freaking cinematic kills, ridiculous equipment- Sonar goggles? and a story line only a mother could love. Seriously, don't get me started.
I saw it a long time ago. Even jutanotheraccount couldn't do it on a single mission he always added something in there saying: To compensate for this, I did only melee kills.
I have yet to finish playing through CT, but as of now, old gen DA is my favorite, it had the awesome soundtrack, the story was great, and I felt like I was truly Sam Fisher, who just lost his daughter. It didn't have corner grab or any of that, but it had far superior JBA hq missions, with none of the nonsense, and a trust meter that only took part in major decisions. Not to mention co-op actions throughout the SP campaign.
if they combined the first presentation and the abilities like trowing/kicking stuff and beating the shit out of the bad guys, and making diversions like stealling that guy's cell phone, with the new conviction (conviction alone i think is a great game) , it would have been an outstanding game
Blacklist was a lot better in my opinion
A prefer convction but blacklist is very good too!
Way better.
Blacklist was a return to form, but it didn't sell enough apparently. And where is our next Splinter Cell.

there is a mechanism for looking around corners...

@FilipStumpy a true gamer never complains about controls
Does it have much replay value?
he say at the end of the video that the game hasn't hit a low note he forgot about the Splinter Cell Essentials on the PSP.
They knew the gameplay would be faster, the only thing i thought this needed would be a couple more hours in story mode.
I had fun with this, looking forward to the new game! Hopefully they go back to there roots and make it a true stealth game.
Kinda hate how the never put the score in the video
This game is awesome.
I love Conviction more then any other Splinter Cell game.
The fast paced gameplay is just right for me, if you want to sneak around, and throw coins to distract guards, and move around bodies.
Then plz.
Play Fucking Hitman and stop whining -.-
I liked splinter conviction (Even tho there's not as much stealth involved unlike the other splinter cell games) But there's a good reason why there isn't as much stealth in this game.
This game is a 10 out of 10! My only complaint is that there wasnt enough DLC!
@CoffeIsntMyCupOfTea
Single player is longer than 5 hours and the coop campaign is about the same length as SP.
they want you to go to their website
@redsoxandpats Is this an fps game?
Isn't Sam fisher like 60 years old now? How the hell is he still doing all this?
Nomatter what Commander Fatty Neckbeard says, at $20 dollars as an on demand game on the 360, this game is a great addition to anyone's collection.
This game you can choose to be stealthy, but you do not need to. I think it is a little bit too little stealth though
great review gamespot.
did you play CT?
@OliverRandCompany Since when is an 8/10 low? By GameSpot's review scale, 7 is Good, 8 is Great, and 9 is Superb. So Conviction is "Great".
i like gamespot reviews how they go into more depth than ign
Available ONLY on Xbox 360.
I don't understand the folks here whining of lack of stealth, as it there in the game
even in the old versions there were scenarios where stealth would do you no good
I hated these scenarios and hate even in this one where you have to deal alone against swarm of enemies assaulting you in one dense room
which IMO realistically impossible to survive
I think these are supposed to be as boss levels
exist as well in rainbow six Vegas 1 and 2
I first played SC1 when I was a kid and was completely enamored by the political intrigue and the maturity of the game.
Mixed reactions between IGN & Gamespot. IGN giving it a 9.3, whereas an 8 from GS. I'll still probably love it, looks fucking awesome.
pressing a bumper?
Hmm, my keyboard doesn`t have any bumpers, game must be made wrong..
@azerskater
I honestly don't find itappealing.
Even jutanotheraccount couldn't do it on a single mission he always added something in there saying: To compensate for this, I did only melee kills.
thats kind of the point, he's a pissed off father that will kill anyone in his way to find out the truth
Not to mention co-op actions throughout the SP campaign.
if they combined the first presentation and the abilities like trowing/kicking stuff and beating the shit out of the bad guys, and making diversions like stealling that guy's cell phone, with the new conviction (conviction alone i think is a great game) , it would have been an outstanding game
every time i get detected i feel like i failed and i thought Sam Fischer would have a way diferent voice
this is a lot better review than the one made by ign
