We all have that stereotypical view of a pensioner having to sit in blankets to keep warm ........ there are those but also ones who live a grand life and still receive the fuel allowance.
@@nikashby6363It was a nice bonus for my Mum. Not rich but a 30+ year teacher’s pension plus state pension. Her income was as much as many working families.
‘The inheritance of the public finances is (anything but) dire..’….. years of the Tories making themselves rich at the expense of the country.
Cut on the bloody defence spending
Didn’t the energy firms make a ridiculous amount of money when they hiked up the fuel costs and then said those profits came from somewhere else like efficiencies.
Why did people think Labour will be any different to conservatives?
Many of us thought they'd be worse and we were right. But the Tories had to go after serial failures.
Cut the asylum budget. Uk pensioners suffer instead. If this was what was said before election , Labour would not be in government.
When will the rich (millionaires and up) get taxed to stop the financial inequality from getting worse?
If it was not for the rich paying taxes, everyone else would have to pay a lot more.
It's the top quartile that are net payers into the tax base.
@@stephenhardwick4101 Some 660k ultra rich amounted for £3.4trillion in wealth back in 2021, a 5% tax on that level would have generated £170B straight away.
70% of the population of the UK added up to £2.9trillion in wealth and nothing was taken from the ultra wealthy.
Yet after tax allowances 20%, 40% or 50% was taken from lower earners than the affluent, mega rich in this country.
The rich can afford it, if they want to keep assets in this country, they should pay for them responsibility!
Even the chancellor ruled out a wealth tax when an MP in the chamber directly asked her to create one. The rich are generally wealth creators, entrepreneurs, business owners and employers. Dissuading them from keeping their affairs in the UK and paying tax here is not a good idea and as I stated the chancellor agreed.
Taxing the rich more is a stupid argument because they will just move to another country with better taxes and potentially move business from the uk resulting in 1000s of jobs being lost
Every single mp including starmer on minimum wage
So why don't they stop the boats? That would save billions. I am a pensioner over 80 years old, living alone and struggling like many so why do this Government now decide to make matters worse? I am at my wits end and cannot wait for REFORM UK to take control. They are the only party to offer any chance of recovery.
People said that about SNP in Scotland, but they got in with a huge majority and they were no better, beware of new parties promising the earth, because they won't make any difference
Looking at the pay differential graph, I see public sector pay has been above that of the private sector since 2002 to 2022. She's restoring it the norm, where those who grow the country's wealth earn less than those who spend it.
👍🎯
Winter was already tough, now this …
oh now there's a surprise..labour to increase taxation
Labour's answer to the illegal immigrant crisis is to build them houses.
Makes me laugh building all these houses what about schools.
There is an argument that because winters are getting milder, (2023 had some of the warmest temps on record) a reduction on winter fuel payments can be done. Would be good to see a shift towards funding for better insulation, more sustainable ways to heat homes. Help the people who need it, and not those who don't.
She knew, everyone knew. And now she's arracking pensioners, the unemployed and the weak. This is Austerity 2
The public service doesn't deserve an above inflation pay rise until it fixes its appalling productivity.
'6.5B for Asylum and illegal immigration' what's that all about?
we need a referendum on continuing to give Ukraine a single penny more
Ukraine is important to the UK secruity. But also Ukraine plays an important part in controling price wheat and oil prices spiking.
@jamesholt4449 Yeah exactly... no we don't need the public deciding on funding Ukraine. Affects our security...could be yet another catastrophic popular vote.
Rachel Reeves didn't say corporate taxes wouldn't go up. Labour said they wouldn't raise taxes on working people.
Working people = anyone with no savings only
Why the money sent to Ukraine hasn't come under greater scrutiny I don't know.
its called money laundering, and were better than europes most corrupt regime
Because most people support Ukraine and haven’t questioned the amount of money we should be sending there
@@sirgo0se97That's fine. If most people support Ukraine then they'd be happy to privately donate some of their money. Why is everyone else, including those ambivalent about that conflict, dragged in to its ballooning costs?
@@sirgo0se97 the crook from kiev has expensive lifestyle
@@abuibu if most people support ukraine they would want peace not using them for cannon fodder in a proxy war
I don't underatand why people are so outraged on pension fuel cuts. This will be only applied to people not claiming pension benefits and with substantial net worth. I don't understand why someone living abroad for retirement should still get fuel benefits, in my opinion this is a fair system given the whole country is struggling
Its simple, 40 pecent of UK income comes from Income Tax but only about 8 percent comes from Corporation Tax. Welcome to Capitalism where cleaners and receptionist bring in all the money, but corporation get to keep most of their profits. This has to change to at leat 25 percent coming from Corporation taxes. We need to rebalance our economy so that business owners and corporations pay more and then we can reduce income tax for everyone.
Check the migrants first not the UC I recommend
Said for years well off pensioners should not get winter fuel allowance.
She hasn't paid back the £310 thousand she paid herself a few days ago..
eh?
Isn’t council tax going to the council…?
Around 50 deaths a year are ascribed to hypothermia. Lets see the stats for the next few years to see how much this really cost the uk in elderly lives.
They should cut overseas aid instead but i suspect most of that aid is spent on uk made military equipment.
This is the most tory labour party ever.
Of course it's "Tory". It was the Tories goddamn crappy finances that left this giant hole they're now having to fill somehow.
@@TalesOfWar and yet strangely Kier Starmer and many others were on the opposition benches during those Tory years and couldn't calculate that there was a giant hole? I've seen this little melodrama of 'OMG we're so shocked by this revelation' before and only if your entire party hadn't been sitting in Parliament with access to all the figures should anyone be able to do this and keep a straight face.
My late uncle could have been one of those statistics ( he was moved into a care home by social services and 2 Police men) because he refused to put any heating on even though he had the financial resources to do so. This led to pipes freezing and bursting ( not repaired ). Fear is the main reason many elderly act this way - they don`t want the government to know all their business so refuse to claim Pension Credit - my late Mum and his sister recieved a tidy inheritance when he died......the logic evades me.
Cost of Heating payments to all pensioners £1-4 billion, illegals hotel board and lodging bill£3-5 billion Foreign aid budget £11 billion.I think we can see what this lot think of the older population
Everything we buy and use is foreign, no wonder we are in a mess.
We need British industry to grow the economy.
Asylum takes priority over our pensioners winter comfort , what an absuloute batch
Rich pensioners that don’t need the payment, yeah. Great idea isn’t it.
Saying that she didn't know about it is a complete lie.
And what is she supposed to do even if she knew about it? Tories were the government, not Rachel Reeves. She is in the job for 3 weeks and so magically it is her fault? 14 years versus 3 weeks. It’s not hard math.
Tax the rich and stop taxing the poorest in our society. Problem solved.
Why tax the rich? They fund nearly everything. Pee off
The rich can afford to take their cash abroad, which also reduces UK investment, so that won't happen because it's never worked when they've tried it before
Rich are already paying more tax. Grow up. This is pensioners attacked by socialistfilth.
I know how we can fix the black hole in our finances, how about taxing the ultra wealthy and redistributing the homes to the younger generation in our society? Maybe we can get some economic growth and more incoming receipts.
Shocking that they’ve gone after the pensioners as if they don’t struggle already to make ends meet. They never look after their own. Disgraceful!
It's means tested based on pension wealth and savings. So those pensioners who own a detached 5 bedroom home in Berkshire with 2 cars and a holiday villa in Alicante lose the money. The pensioners who struggle to make ends meet will continue to get it.
Whereabouts is all the tax revenue breakdown?
Virtually all of the money disappeared into the hands of Tories, their mates and their donors.
@NeonVisual I'm talking about day to day tax income. How much is it?

Those lovely 4 star refugee hotels don't pay for themselves.

Yep it's all planned across western countries. They are going to bring in the worst garbage under this pretense
This is a bad idea. Why won't she do a one off tax on corporations making billions
Because then the corporations will leave for somewhere low tax, like Ireland and any tax that is coming from them in the 1st place will disappear entirely 😆

REFORM 2029
MP’s should get no pensions or pay rises, just minimum wage until the budget is balanced
1. Give MPs national minimum wage plus fuel costs (if receipts and proof of mileage is provided). And bonuses based on reaching targets agreed on by parliament and the public.
2. Stop paying immigrants and deport everyone here without asylum. Reject all future asylum applications.
3. Stop paying countries for anything. Including dishing out money to pay for other countries' wars.
4. Reorganise the NHS. Make consultants do as much work as their juniors. They should be doing more than the juniors, not less for a higher wage.
5. Reign in the property owners (landlords) by lowering the mortgage interest rates.
6. Tax the corporate and offshore businesses that operate on our shores but use tax loopholes.
Loads more money.
Go get the money off Liz Truss
Still unbelievable that 9 million adults voted for them.
We’re sending more money to Ukraine than our NHS. How appalling!
