    The part where you said our ancestors didn’t feel guilty for not playing Legos with their kids really made me cry. Sometimes I feel like a bad mom because I’m busy cooking and cleaning instead of playing with my son as a single mom. It’s hard to find the time to play with your children, I guess I just really needed to hear that it’s OK to focus on cooking and cleaning. Minutes of playtime is OK. Sometimes I just feel so guilty for making an environment that’s clean and functional instead of focusing on play time. Thanks for sharing!

    I've only been a mum for 2.5 years and currently pregnant with my second but my tips would be:
    1. Say sorry to your child when you mess up.
    2. When saying no explain why you're saying no so they understand.
    3. Try to say yes when you can instead of no just because it might be inconvenient. For example, my toddler loves to get her own cereal/food/do dishwasher and washing and is very independent but of course she takes a lot longer and makes a mess. So what, she's learning and we clean it up together. Just because it's inconvenient for me, it's such great learning for her because one day she won't spill when putting cereal and milk in the bowl.
    5. Don't get annoyed about spills and accidents. Nothing worse than spilling something and scared to tell your parent when it was an accident. It happens to us all. Don't make anyone feel bad over an accident that they never intended.

    Such good simple ideas. As a teacher, we have duties and cleaning procedures that i get caught up in. When a kid asked me to come look at something they did I would say not right now I'm cleaning. But now I'm like I can stop and look at something for 5 seconds right and it's something they're proud of usually.

    My oldest is off at university and I keep getting text messages from her, "xxx made me think of you/home", and several have been scent based. She was at breakfast at a friend's apartment who served Red Rose tea and she sent a picture of her cup with the message, tastes like home. The other memory trigger is songs, ones that we sang or listened to on the Google speakers (we have a cleaning playlist to keep our energy up). We will send each other links to videos of the songs as we hear that make us think of the others. My son is in the Army and does this all the time.
    I love the idea of focusing on activities that we like, and doing those with our kids. I keep buying games so the kids will play with each other and stay busy. I should pull out the puzzles, I love doing them.

But, alas, I was wrong. What great, practical tips to change the mood, which changes the tone, which makes us all better moms. Way back, idk last fall maybe, you mentioned the word "atmosphere" on one of your videos pretty sure in reference to a candle you liked and it's the first time I'd ever thought of that word in reference to my home. This video was so helpful. Sometimes just getting it out there and saying it the simple things is such a great reminder when we are caught up in the everyday chores. Take a minute and really connect. I can’t tell u how many times I find my self saying. “Hold on” “not right now” “maybe later” this has really helped me to take the time and reconnect with the kiddos

    • @ang_131
      @ang_131 2 года назад +1

      On the flip side, I find myself saying “not right now” often when I just need a minute to myself. My kitchen has never been cleaner than since I became a mom. Cleaning up after a meal is a time for me to be mostly child free and just have a few minutes to listen to a podcast and do a mindless menial task. So it’s okay to need a minute to yourself, too. Personally, when my day and mood turn sour, this helps me more than anything else. And when the kitchen is done, I can sit on the floor and play with my kid. Or help her “wash” all the clean dishes. I just need those few minutes. I imagine that’s hard to find with 8 kids. I only have 2 so far.

  • @groundedapproach

    Okay I just found your channel and I love you!! I’ve honestly never had a role model but I think you are my first one. You do such a great job but are so real! So relatable. I usually don’t like watching home making stuff because peoples lives and routines look flawless and I can’t relate.
    When you joked about having 8 kids so you didn’t have to play all the time? That actually is a thought I have all the time! I can’t wait till my baby is old enough to play with my 3 yr old because I love them but don’t want to play all day! I want them to play to I can get stuff done 😂

    This one sank deep into me. Being bigger than their emotions feels like it should be easier than it is!! Sometimes I just want to have the sulk or temper tantrum as well! 😂 I have a feeling I'll need to come back regularly to this "pep talk". Thank you.

    Best video I've seen on this. Just feels like tricks that don't require you to be an amazing person when you feel like crap. 💜💜

      Sleep regressions are difficult but keep in mind it will be over eventually. That first one is so tough. I had more than a few midnight cries with my firstborn. Lean on your support system so you can get a nap or two during the day so you have the energy for all the night wakings.

    I love watching your videos! So true and so down to earth! Love how you said what to do when you want to run away. Like yes I love love love my kids but I have little moments where I just want a moment of piece and rest away from the noise and thats okay.
