Same here, it's benefits are helpful while not being too overpowered and it's downsides are present without making the weapon trash. It's the only weapon I don't want the TF Team to re-work or change.

Let's not ignore how it goes perfect with what I'd like to call ... poetic rambling. "Rambling" isn't quite the word, but it's close enough.

L’Etranger is probably my favourite and one of the most balanced Revolvers in the Spy’s arsenal.
You sacrifice overall damage for survivability and utility since it can gives you cloak on hit and extended cloak duration which is definitely worth the damage penalty as you can be invisible for much longer and is a good way of gaining cloak back, especially with the Dead Ringer.
People should definitely equip this over the Ambassador as it could save your life if you’re in a sticky situation.

By far one of my revolvers even though it's basically a water gun against a fully buffed opponent but it makes the invisible watch and cloak and dagger so aggressive due to the long cloak to get into those spots juicy spots without worrying about packs. But yeah this revolver is great but it's basically a squirt gun.

This is my favourite revolvers, while it's give you a longer cloak duration, the damage penalty isn't that bad, you still kill a low health for 1 or 2 shots.

TBH I think L’Etranger is alright for gunspy. Even without the cloak duration, the cloak on hit lets you use your DR every couple seconds and the 20% damage penalty doesn’t really cross any thresholds against anything smaller than a pyro/demo which you wouldn’t be killing on your own anyway.

I love to play with L'eatranger + Cloak and Dagger. :3 My favorite loadout.
Ambassor to bully Snipers (especially those with Razoback) and Engineers (especially turtle engineers, they suck), and it also needs a buff
L'entranger for wandering spy and useful for getting away (I feel like this weapon is balance)
Stock for every type of uses
Diamondback is for power as longer as you're skilled enough to survive being attacked
Enforcer needs a buff

Butterknives actually don't have a swing before hitting. Most melees have a 0.25s animation before hitting, and while knives do play an animation that takes a bit to finish, as soon as you click is when the hit occurs.

I like to play stab and escape Spy, or paranoia Spy, so since the change to the L'etranger, it's pretty much been my go to revolver for any situation. Plus I like how it's modeled after the M1895 Nagant revolver.

I got this opinion thanks to your video about Valve's proposal at the time. I think Amby should stay as is, except you have -50% cloak duration. So basically the opposite of what the Etranger does. Since Amby gives you much more effective range, it's fair to nerf the Spy on mobility as a tradeoff. I also emailed this proposal to Valve.

My issue is how it further forces the user to combo the DR and Ambassador. Not like they don't already have a good incentive. 4 seconds of invis cloak is basically useless. Valve has said in the past (when they removed item set abilities) that they want to shy away from such strict weapon combos, and instead, allow more variant loadouts.

But your idea of a mobility/range trade-off is still something we can work with. Maybe if ammo does not replenish cloak, or the amount of cloak you get is severely diminished?
Keep in mind, the DR will also give you half the duration, which is 3.5 seconds. Cloak and Dagger would be a good match as well. Giving you practically no distance, but still the power to hide in one spot as long as you want.
But indeed the watch could also be downgraded in other ways. However, I like the thought of having the cloak be *nearly* useless, but still giving you small distances to run from cover to cover.

I believe you are incorrect about the "butterknife" being delayed. It is instant like a backstab. I'm not only trusting the wiki, but from personal experience, I intentionally butterknife _because_ of how instant and reliable it is.
With normal melee, I sometimes have an issue with the delay (especially on Medieval, where it's kinda necessary to learn the timing). It never appears with the knife.

i think i would like to see a test, i could swear there was a difference between backstabs and butterknives but i'd be happy to be proven wrong

Notice that the instant when the butterknife animation _starts_ , the damage number appears. Same goes for the backstab. Although the animation of both the spy's arm and [reacting] enemy's body seem quicker when backstabbing, the actual moments they contact are both the same.

i love this weapon
The l'étranger is by far my favourite gun, because its the only one that has an upside thats not connected with shooting somebody. And since i've only ever played FPS for like 250 hours, my aim is really bad, so gun damage doesn't matter for me.

you lose out on a slot to make the other slots better - if you're not using the original slot it's just the perfect weapon

Fuck man, i hope the Amb doesn't get nerfed as hard, because I think I have one with Heavies killed and Players hit. I think not one of my Stranges i use the most hasnt got some sort of part or special gimmick, which is quite nice.
L'Etranger, never really got into using it, because it does little damage, but it probably will get an indirect buff in the Update, looking at the DR nerf where you cannot pick up ammo packs anymore. The Diamondback will kinda certainly get nerfed, and if they keep the Amby change, it will be the best sidegrade to use actually.

When i use the L´etranger with the Cloak and Dagger, the cloak time feels the same as if i was using the stock revolver. I don´t really know why. Lol
L' means "the" in french which you probably already knew but it's just l'etranger and not "the l'etranger," which you probably already knew because you're a sneaky baguette men.

tbh the L'etranger is a good gun but in pubs (where I play) its kinda not good
"Bad" isn't the right word because in most situations, the lower damage shouldn't matter much if you can hit shots.
If you are good at finding backstabs (read: not trickstabs), the l'etrange is actually a great side-grade. But if you need to rely on safer, ranged damage, then you should change to more combat-oriented weapon.
