Coach Nick went deep into the footage from last night's amazing games by both the Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young (37 points, 7 assists) and the Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant (44 points, 9 assists) to figure out which of these two scintillating young stars is better.

Really impressive is the fact that they took care of the ball so well while doing all that. Trae set a record last night as the only player to score 37 points on 12 FG attempts in NBA history. The next best guy is Barkley when he did it in the 80s.

Trae’s effort on defence in pre season and this 1st game is really promising, he will always be undersized but he is reading lanes and making it somewhat harder for his opponents. Hopefully over the span of the season it becomes noticeable
As a hawks fan, my opinion on the matter is that we were so bad the past couple years and Trae had to literally do everything on offense. To the point where he was probably forced to rest alot on defense.
Last night we actually looked like a capable team and trae looked significantly fresher.
His size really hinders him. Maybe Trae can play on passing lanes with teammates helping him defensively of course.
@@OTRMonk sorry I never meant by my initial statement that Trae was or would ever be good on defense. But he wasn't nearly the liability he has been. Now its one game and its the bulls but He can at least be an energetic body that can stay infront of a player. He used to be so exhausted that on defense he would play incredibly sluggishly
@@canineuniversity1015 I love how you can tell that the Hawks front office really has a plan. They traded down to draft Trae and got a draft pick, that they used to draft Cam Reddish, who is already looking like he can be one of the best defensive players in the league. They also reached a bit to get a defensive minded guy in Hunter. And then they traded for Capela who is also an above average defender at the 5. They knew that Trae has huge offensive potential, but cant play defense, so they surrounded him with players that have the potential to be elite on the defensive side of the ball and also knock down 3s to stretch the defense to allow that PnR with Trae and Collins/Capela. Its beautiful to see that front office have a clear vision of their franchises future and to execute a plan to turn that vision into reality.

My favorite thing about Trae Young isn’t the deep threes, the crafty floaters, nice passes or his hair.
It’s the fact that after every lob he jumps with his teammate lol

Trae Young torches the league almost as much as he gets torched by the league. Young is too small and weak to be a good defender, and he makes it worse with poor defensive habits (low effort, inattentive, and gambling when he does try). I don't see Trae Young becoming a winning player. Ja Morant is almost as good on offense, and world's better on defense.

Hawks were up 40 last night without 4 rotation players and our top 10-15 center. It’s kinda stupid to say Trae can’t win when this is the first year he’s a decent cast of players around him. You don’t put up 37 on 12 shots in 26 minutes by accident. Not saying he’ll remain this efficient but give the man the respect he deserves.

Trae Young’s game reminds me a lot of Curry. The way he’s modeled his game after Curry is pretty crazy lol, definitely closest player to him that I’ve seen. Only thing Ja has over Trae is athleticism, but it doesn't matter cuz Trae's offense is so elite, Ja's athleticism doesnt help him enough to be better than Trae. Trae is balling on a tier 1 level, Ja is in the same tier as Fox and Lowery right now

Ja Morant taller, better athlete, if his shot is not falling he has the physical tools to play defense, his scoring can only improve as he continues playing. Trae Young better scorer, better shooter, if his shot is off he has no real impact anywhere else. Verdict: Ja Morant. Trae Young is more explosive of a scorer, but Ja Morant will give you more consistent impact even when he is struggling to score. I'll take consistency over inconsistent big performances.
