Game of Thrones is an American fantasy drama television series created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss for HBO. It is an adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire, a series of fantasy novels by George R. R. Martin, the first of which is A Game of Thrones. The show was shot in the United Kingdom, Canada, Croatia, Iceland, Malta, Morocco, and Spain. Set on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos, Game of Thrones has a large ensemble cast and follows several story arcs throughout the course of the show. The second focuses on the last descendant of the realm's deposed ruling dynasty, who has been exiled to Essos and is plotting to return and reclaim the throne. The third follows the Night's Watch, a military order defending the realm against threats from beyond Westeros's northern border.
Despite of being a main character in all 8 seasons.. Bran stark still has few minute short of his father Ned who died in Season 1💀
To be fair, Ned was like half the first book as well. Which made it all the more shocking when George offed him.

Nes was probably the protagonist of the series that just didn't continue because he died. If he had somehow stayed alive, he would have been the main protagonist of the series. And credit to actor Sean Bean who was absolutely incredible in his performance, although for me the best actor in the series (not the best character but the actor) was Jack Gleeson, the King Joffrey.

Well, that's simply not true according to the source material. The show only made him that later on as a lazy way to end his story arc.
His wolf was named shaggy dog, which is a Hollywood term for a character who has no purpose except to die
@PeterSedesse Well the name is from the books, and there he is not dead at all. There is actually a cliffhanger in the last book that suggests an entirely new story arc on Skagos. So what Martin intended for the character is something else entirely. As so many things sadly, the show became such a rush job after the first 3-4 seasons

@@speedwagon914 1. During the first season Ned is around almost constantly. He also is back for a few minutes of time-travelling Bran.
2. There are entire plotlines where Baelish isn't present at all (Winterfell in Season 1 and 2, Dorne, Braavos, Daenerys in Essos), or very little (Arya in Harrenhal, Sansa returned to Winterfell).
3. This is not about opinions, but facts. You can measure the time when Ned or Baelish are on screen.
Ned appears in every episode of the first season and has long scenes with almost every important character of the season (the Stark family, King Robert, Queen Cersei, Varys, Baelish, Jaime...). He is the main and nearly only character of the first season. While Baelish is a "puppet master" who stays in shadow most of the time and show off only for "revelations". This is just accurate that they share the same time on screen.
I'm shoked by Gendry's ranking. I remember him through several seasons and was interested by his storyline so much 😮

@@VectOPBRit's probably accurate, I added up all the minutes and it's comes out to 82 hours in a 74 hour series however that doesn't consider character's minutes spent together in the same scene.
I think this list is only seasons 1-6 as Berric has 11 minutes in those seasons but he also appears in the last 2

It's literally an impartial ranking. Don't believe it, feel free to google it, and get the exact same numbers. Berics scenes are very rare, and very spread out. Even when the Brotherhood IS a part of the story, it's usually still other main characters interacting with each other, rather than him

11 minutes is pretty short.
I mean of course he barely is in season 1. In season 3 he has the duel with Sandor and then maybe a few dialogue scenes (where they sell Gendry). In season 6 he appears a bit. But then in season 7 he goes around with Sandor, ends up at Eastwatch and is around for the entire trip beyond the wall. Also in season 8 he has a dialogue before the long night and then his final fight.
That combined should be more than 11 minutes.
Looked it up. Berric has 11 minutes in the first 6 seasons. So this list only counts the first 6 seasons

Everyone talks about Ned Stark, but it amazes me how Khal Drogo has almost the same screentime than Beric and Thoros combined despite dying in season 1. And more screen time than The Mountain in the whole show.

Guys, the reason y Ned has more screentime : as they've shown Ned as the 'main protagonist (more screentime)' in S1 until they killed him.. S1 was purely based on Ned. And as the seasons passed the characters like jon Snow, arya, jamie's screen time got increased as they've become more important.

Wow Ned Stark getting more screen time in 1 season ( plus a couple flashbacks scenes in season 6) the most characters through 6-8 seasons

He was in 14 episodes and shall have only 11 minutes screentime? That's impossible.
He doesn't have many scenes he is in. Apart from his duel with the Hound in S3, the stupid fight against the ice bear in S7 and him forming a bericade in the library of Winterfell in S8 I think he only appears in a few dialog scenes with Arya back when he was leading the Brotherhood without Banners and later in season 7 with Jon Snow and in Season 8 with the Hound. And the three seconds when he was ordered to chase the Mountain by Ned in season 1 when he was portrayed by another actor. I think 11 minutes adds up.
Plus in Arya's Brotherhood arc he appears super late, Arya interacts mainly with Thoros and that archer guy

Having rewatched GoT about 15 times, I would have put some serious money on "This person has more screen time than the other" and I would have been wrong. Septa Unella more than Beric? Renly over Jeor? Loras over Grey Worm? Gilly over Missandei and Shae and Ygritte? Ned made it to #12 with more time than Robb Stark despite Robb making it to season 3, and he finished just short of Little finger despite him dying at the end of season 7? Also, the rank 1 guy is just under 5 hours. There is about 73 hours worth of show which means he is only on screen for less than 10% of the show! Wow. Eye opening vid.

Hell of a boring character
He also has a very important role in the books. His voyage to Oldtown with Maester Aemon and Gilly is actually very good. A nice little personal story about them to balance it with all the grander tales. Good fantasy knows it can't be epic all the time because the grander moments lose its impact. Tolkien was also very aware of this. In a way both Sam's kind of have the same role in the story in that regard . They tell us to slow down, read a book, cook a nice meal... you know, stop amd smell the roses every once in a while.

@@kailashbanjare617 Yeah and thats the mistake. These numbers seem so low and wrong because they are. Obviously in nearly every Scene there are multiple of these Characters present, not only one, so the total screentime should be way above 100, probably higher than 200.
