Hi 🙋♀️! As far as dahlias go I’ve never had issues with rabbits or deer, although I know some people have reported deer damage. For other rabbit resistant plants, things that have fuzzy leaves or a strong odor tend to be more resistant. Unfortunately I find rabbits to be rather willing to taste test so I do use a rabbit repellent if I’m worried about a plant. And they are terribly damaging to trees and shrubs in winter. For that, a physical barrier is really the only solution.
@@emmiaamilcar2098 Never had a problem with rabbits. Deer is my nemesis but so far they haven’t taste dahlias but ate everything else. Just bought a concentrate of Liquid fence. A lot of people love that. Wi’ll see how it works

"You can't deer fence everything in your yard, can you?" - Laura Me staring out my window at the 8 ft tall fences around each of my 12 fruit trees... Lol!
Ditto on having deer fence around the backyard. It would not make sense to plant flowers, with maybe the exception of monarda and marigolds, if the deer still had access. Laura doesn’t have rabbits, deer or rocks, but she does have harsh wind (same here) and high Ph levels. Everyone has some sort of challenge and it’s helpful to learn from others’ experiences.
My husband is like Paul. Everywhere he works everyone comments about how good he is at just getting in there & figuring it out. He is now a supervisor & he really doesn't like it b/c they dont want him working with everyone, they want him to just supervise.
Once you guys plant more trees and the ones you just planted get bigger I’m sure that will eventually really help with the wind. And I can’t wait until once your arborvitae hedge gets fully grown around your property and I’m sure the wind problem will be better. I can’t wait to see the transformation a few years from now and we’re all going to be like WOW! 💜

That was a great video, loved all the tips and tidbits and the story about Benjamin. He is growing and learning about things that can happen quickly . Aaron you are a perfect mix of town and country! You and Laura can do so many wise and nifty things around there! Love all you guys do! :-)
Paul, you are a gift to Laura and Aaron and to each and every one of us who watch the videos. Your talents/gifts are wonderful and the best part of it all is how respectful, neat, clean and precise you are. I know that both Aaron and Laura like that. All the contractors/workers that you have had on your property are so awesome. I know you will only accept perfect but still, some people just don't care. When you have work done it is hard to even know they have been there. My dad would absolutely love that. He would be out there being the foreman inspecting and giving his two cents lol.
Both of you are wonderful parents to Benjamin and Samantha Grace...they are so lucky! Just some motherly advice...try to keep Samantha awake in the evening instead of strolling her around where she is sure to fall asleep., give her a bath, bottle before putting her down and hopefully she will sleep the night. Your days will be much easier if all of you have a good night of sleep. That practice served me well when my kids were babies. Laura, after working outside all day as hard as you do, making dinner etc...you must be exhausted! My husband is retired military. He was out the door early, in the field, away for work and school....so I was virtually a single parent so much of the time with 3 little boys....something not uncommon for military spouses. When my oldest was in 3rd grade, he asked me why I never showered...it made me laugh. What he didn’t realize, is that I got up really early before they woke up and showered. When he was in high school he honored me by picking me and writing about me as a most respected person in his life. It was a total surprise at the reading and made me cry. All three of my sons have acknowledged all I did for them as a parent...all the work is worth it. Just to let you know, their father is a wonderful father and husband. When our youngest was in 4th grade, he asked him if he could take a year off because he was never home...he retired😀
Thank you for telling us the Benjamin taking a header into the fountain. You are just like us and no matter what judgemental 'I'm a perfect parent/person' say, everyone has flaws. I bet you Benjamin won't fall into a fountain again. We have to let our kids mess up sometimes, even when they are that young. Otherwise, they will do something when older which could really have a negative and permanent impact when it could have been avoided. THE FLOWER ARRANGEMENT IS BEAUTIFUL.
I've learned so much from you the last few years. Thanks to you, my garden just gets better year after yearand I've planted things I probably wouldn't have otherwise. I winter sowed and started sweet peas, snaps, cosmos, Fox glove and Delphinium indoors this year. I don't know what my garden would be without you.
Oh Russell!! Where are you?? We missed your cameo :/ Also, Laura couldn't take my eyes off of the gorgeous flower arrangement and I am hoping you have recorded it for later posting!
Ozark rabbits and deer do not care about Irish Spring or an other soap. They mostly don't even care about the sprays, but I still use them, since it's worked better than any thing else. A shotgun works the best, but I don't have the heart for it..... I can't kill a darn thing.
With regards to the wrap around porch, It looks like there’s a roof overhang all the way around the house. Could you add a bannister around, creating the porch, and keep the floor level as is? Just a thought! I’m sure however you and Aaron design it, it’ll be beautiful! 🌸

Thanks for sharing your lives with us and all you do to keep us ever learning and … entertained. 😃
I have rabbits and woodchucks that ate all of my lettuce, cabbage, peas, beans, broccoli, cauliflower and others. They did not touch my tomatoes, peppers, squash or onions. Last year I moved my Irises from the back yard to the front. They always grew leaves but no flowers. I had seen a video explaining that the tuber needs to be exposed to the sun so this spring I went out to where I planted and removed the soil from the tubers and yesterday I had 2 big blue Irises open and several more coming. I'm so glad I learned that cause now I can get so many more colors.
So..... I watch a lot of your videos, but not all. I rarely watch the highlights. Tonight you "saved" me. Long story, but car broke down & it's after midnight & I have a 1.5 hour wait for the tow. Really enjoyed your video & kept me awake!
I deer fence most everything. I tried fences around my flower beds. Just didn't like the way it took away from the flowers. So I made cages out of green light weight fence. Even put tops in post of them because th0se beautiful creatures will get so use to where they munch that they will just put their heads down and eat the top out of anything they can reach. Yes you can see the cages but it seems like you see the garden easier. For now I am as happy as I can be with this problem. This time of year when I see a newborn that can hardly stand, I remind myself of the joy they do give me. But i have had many mornings when I get up and find my knockout roses provided the midnight snack for my 4 legged friends. Hardly a bloom left. This is life when you live in the hills of the Ozarks.
Oh my lord, I just commented above about how these Ozark deer and rabbits defy all things that are supposed to deter them. But I am like you.... the doggone things are so precious and are just trying to live. We just had a mama bring out several little bunnies and I about died of the cuteness. Can't stay mad. Greetings from northern Arkansas!
As a newbie, I really appreciate when you talk about what to plant right now to see the plants in a certain season. I have just been plunking things in the ground and even my day lilies which people say are very hardy are not performing. I’m holding onto the thought that hopefully they come in next year
My yard is heavily landscaped with daylilies. It's a big gardening highlight when they bloom and have been dynamite for almost 20 years. This year, the flowers are sparse and small. First time.
There’s a phrase with perennials: first year slow, second year grow, third year show. It takes some time for the plants to get rooted in and start to thrive. Gardening will teach you patience, that’s for sure!
As others have said, first year plants don't always bloom. First year they sleep, 2nd year they creep, 3rd year they leap is another phrase. Also, your plants may not bloom the same time as Laura's depending on where you live; they may bloom before hers or after, depends on how fast your area warms up, or if it even gets cold at all.
Aaron. You are not a looser. Kids are just kids. My youngest daughter would fall into ponds or fountains everywhere she went. She never meant to, it would just happen. One day we toured a lock. She was terrified because it was so deep. She said “Mommy I always fall in. Don’t let me fall in.” I’m glad your kids are confident enough to explore and play and to trust that you will be there when they fall in.
Something that will help with the blackberry/raspberry question… I would use a wild raspberry with the blackberries. Black raspberries (which are different from blackberries and taste like a raspberry) would keep up with blackberries

That arrangement behind you is so lovely!
Where o where is Russell? Thanks Laura and Aaron, I always enjoy these highlights.
Yes! Where is he? I’m getting scared!
@@mollypitcher9380
Scared? I believe Laura would have spoken if anything serious happened. I feel sure he’s just somewhere else around the house.
Love the flower arrangement behind you 😍😍
Because of you I bought Hellebore's...love from Australia :)
Same! Arrived yesterday 👍
@@guidedandblessed nah...from Garden Express...haven't seen in Bunnings. Need to check on my next visit to Bunnings :)
"Never, like, compare yourself to what we're doing in life because we're all the same, all of us." Words to live by, Laura. Thank you! Needed to hear that today.
Look forward to your highlights always! It’s so nice to see a little behind the scenes, keeping it real in this all too instant gratification digital world we live in. Keep up the uplifting AND amazing work you two do! ❤️❤️❤️hugs from Utah zone 5b
"You can't deer fence everything in your yard, can you?" - Laura
Me staring out my window at the 8 ft tall fences around each of my 12 fruit trees... Lol!
“Allow me to demonstrate” - you 😂
😂
Ditto on having deer fence around the backyard. It would not make sense to plant flowers, with maybe the exception of monarda and marigolds, if the deer still had access. Laura doesn’t have rabbits, deer or rocks, but she does have harsh wind (same here) and high Ph levels. Everyone has some sort of challenge and it’s helpful to learn from others’ experiences.
I’m loving the flower arrangement behind you!
Did I miss you creating it? I can’t wait to find out 😊
I know it's gorgeous. I'll wait for your answer. Don't think I missed it.
I know right! I watch EVERYTHING 😆
I see daffodils, hellebores, and some dark foliage, another white bloom too
@@melinajfl yes, me too. I'm caught up on GA. Always to the top of the list.
Oh! The anemones! White with black eyes.
Love the flower arrangement behind you 💐😍🥰
The flower arrangement looks magical!
My husband is like Paul. Everywhere he works everyone comments about how good he is at just getting in there & figuring it out. He is now a supervisor & he really doesn't like it b/c they dont want him working with everyone, they want him to just supervise.
I know a few people like that, it is nice to have that talent, my son isn't too Shabby also
A good supervisor is one that gets their hands dirty right along with you...:)
Same with my sweetie.
Love the question and answer....especially when you guys deviate ....💞💞
That flower arrangement behind you is so gorgeous! Wow! 🌼💐🌼
Paul ,could you doing the plant staking for Laura. She hates doing it. Thanks Paul. Your the best.
I see so many people wake up with you, but for me you're my bedtime videos haha
Once you guys plant more trees and the ones you just planted get bigger I’m sure that will eventually really help with the wind. And I can’t wait until once your arborvitae hedge gets fully grown around your property and I’m sure the wind problem will be better. I can’t wait to see the transformation a few years from now and we’re all going to be like WOW! 💜
Oh, WOW! I can't believe you answered my question on camera. Thank you so so much! I love you, your family & your channel. I can't garden outdoors because I am allergic to the sun, but I love gardening vicariously through you.
Oh my gosh Laura you STILL have drive. I wish I could do half of what you do. ✨🌿
Spent all day in the garden and feeling the sunburn. So nice to sit down to eat a big garden salad and see this video... 😎❤️
Your floral piece is stunning and such an enhancement in the background to your presentation. It’s also a joy to see the beautiful flowers that you invest such energy in growing, morph into such a lovely arrangement. Would you consider doing one for each answer session?
I love how you look to Aaron to correct or reassure your grammar/vocab, hahahha
You two are the best. So much truth. So glad Benjamin is okay.
Your babies are adorable 🥰
Lol. “What were you doing? Were you on your phone?” I can’t tell you how many times those words have come out of my mouth.
Honestly, I looked at my husband and laughed out loud 😂, and you know why "we're all the same" I could tell you stories. 🤐
I love the room your in. So pretty.
Good night 🌃 from Trinidad.Lots of rain today. First time planting dahlias from seeds and that was successful. Thanks for all your videos.💐💖💯
We missed your cameo :/
Also, Laura couldn't take my eyes off of the gorgeous flower arrangement and I am hoping you have recorded it for later posting!
Little pieces of Irish spring soap around the garden deter the rabbits!
Need to give that a try👍
I’ll have to try this as the rabbits have decimated my liatris plants!
Ozark rabbits and deer do not care about Irish Spring or an other soap. They mostly don't even care about the sprays, but I still use them, since it's worked better than any thing else. A shotgun works the best, but I don't have the heart for it..... I can't kill a darn thing.
Hello from Toronto! Love my daily video time. Just the best part of my day.
With regards to the wrap around porch, It looks like there’s a roof overhang all the way around the house. Could you add a bannister around, creating the porch, and keep the floor level as is? Just a thought! I’m sure however you and Aaron design it, it’ll be beautiful! 🌸
I had to laugh when Laura said “have a great start to your week” because the video came out on a Saturday morning in my time zone 😄 It was a pleasant surprise though, I didn’t expect a recap video this week when it didn’t come out till Thursday, I thought they were probably too busy...
I can’t stop looking at the flower arrangement behind you Laura, it is absolutely gloriously stunning!
Your sharp temperature changes and the strong winds that come with it, sounds so much like Alberta. Only not as hot.
It's been kinda toasty here in southern Alberta lately!😎
Her temp are also much like the interior of BC the Okanagan. Which basically lies due north of where she lives, just in Canada.
Or Montana. Temperature change-followed by wind. Moisture-followed by wind. 🤪😜🥴
Thank you for the shout out to the farm kids. We appreciate it!❤
Love, love, love that flower arrangement behind you, especially since Aaron turned the fan on!!
Flowers on your left are so pretty!! I can not stop starting at them ! 🙈
On Farm kids and city kids. “I feel like I’m the worst of both” LOL Aaron! Same!
Suburban kids lol
Thanks Laura and Aaron for being so real! Even though we often think we are all so different, when it boils down to it, we really aren’t. As such, we feel celebrate your “ups” and we commiserate with your “downs”. You feel like family.
If it ever gets too warm, you could always pull your hair back into a pony tail! 😉 😆
Lol 🤣
That ship has sailed.
Love the highlights videos! The flower arraignment behind you is very beautiful!
Am I the only one enamored with that stunning arrangement behind Laura?!?!? Hello, we want to see and know about this beauty! Absolutely breathtaking! On another note, I so enjoy having Aaron participate in these recap videos; it’s so fun to watch the camaraderie and conversation . Thanks for sharing your lives with us and all you do to keep us ever learning and … entertained. 😃
I love the recap videos! This was another great one. And, like most of your viewers, I think that flower arrangement is beautiful!
Love these type videos don’t ever shorten them they are great!
Love you videos, you make me smile...you and Aaron are such a great pair!
I love the arrangement behind you it's beautiful.
I'm in New Zealand and just leave my dahlias in the ground year on year. They are fine with rain as long as you have reasonable drainage.
I tried to learn sign language to be able to communicate with people I waited on at a grocery store I worked at. 👍👌🤘
Bless you.
I, too, once worked at a grocery store and noticed someone communicating with our guests using sign language.
That is so awesome of you!
SOLAR
Will you install Solar panels to help offset your energy bill?
I doubt she would want them, not very pretty.
Thank you Ken.
Something that will help with the blackberry/raspberry question… I would use a wild raspberry with the blackberries. Black raspberries (which are different from blackberries and taste like a raspberry) would keep up with blackberries
Love your channel! What is in the flower arrangement beside of you? Happy gardening from WV😁
Yeyy!.. This is best part of my day today!
