Peter Forte No need. Firstly, they cut down trees only above a certain diameter so the canopy remains intact. Secondly, most tropical timber species are able to sprout from the stumps.

@@kenroyfortune3098 Actually local and foreign companies are cutting only around 20% of the allowed amount due to poor infrastructure , high cost and low profitability. The greatest and most dangerous threat to deforestation in Guyana is mining. They are responsible for 90% of deforestation in Guyana. The forestry industry is tightly regulated and controlled. The removal of top soil and abandoned dead pools of water takes decades , if not generations to repair not to mention the toxins being put into the waterways. I doubt Guyana has the ability to curb abuse by miners. These guys come in from all directions , they most fast and nasty.

Destroying the forest is something Guyana should not do. But dealing with ignorant governments from the PNC to the PPP have definitely show that there is no respect for the environments. I despise this.

Shame on these people the forrest should be left intact, and should be not destroyed. This is vital to our world.

Love your country being exploited by foreigners. They receive more salary than locals. Guyanese give them cheap labor and their resources in exchanged of a few dollars of earnings!!!

It appears that only Indians seem to have all the important jobs in Guyana. Now when the new government puts Guyana Black people back in these position s I hope no one will scream about discrimination.

Chinese don't care what damages is done to the rainforest and the mining companies as long their pockets are full.
Governments are to blame for allowing exploitation of Guyana from forestry, Gold mining, legal and illegal, fishing sector. There are too many Chinese in Guyana and given more rights than Guyanese. I say STOP STOP STOP! before its too late.!
