Glad I hung on despite the (unedited) slowness of your delivery, for your commentary and experience is exactly the kind of inside-track input I was looking for. :-) Also love your warm, human vibe...and your very cool backing tracks! Keep on truckin‘.

Thanks Robert. I am watching your review here in Belgium. It was very good, thanks. I already own an old Stagepas 500 which has done great service, but now I am 73 and looking for an easier way to gig. I will check out the sound at my local music shop. You have helped me a lot, thanks again. Robin

I had a turbosound IP2000 but it would distort from the tweeter at higher volumes, couldn't EQ it out. I then bought this Yamaha stagepass 1K but it is far too underpowered for my needs. No where near the power of the IP2000. I then bought an RCF Jmix8 and it blows all other column arrays out of the water. It is loud, smooth and built in mixer is far better than the Yamaha 1K. It has took me several PA's to find one that I am truly happy with but the RCF is amazing

Thanks Robert, how’s it going with this 2 years later? My wife sings at assisted living living facilities for her business. We have the Yamaha 600 stagepas . Im looking to take way less to her gigs and not sacrifice quality. As ours has a high mid and low . How’s that aspect or did you get a external mixer. Your thoughts greatly appreciated.

Thanks man! Best review i've seen for this thing. I'm a solo singer-songwriter (only guitar/vocals, no backing tracks required). Do you think this system is worth looking into for my purpose? Thinking about this as an alternative to an all-in-one acoustic amp (like a Schertler or a Fishman Loudbox) or a powered speaker/mixer combo (think QSC k10.2)

The best way to do it is run into the "Link In" input. It bypasses the preamp section and uses just the crossover, the speakers, and the amp.

Robert Without doubt the best review on here for the stage pas, I own the Dynacord P5 powermax pa, had it for years, hense I'm getting on in years now, and no more want to be lifting heavy speakers, especially over my head onto poles, so just last night I was told purchase yamaha stage pas, I have 2 issues with this and I hope you can help me out,
One is being a one man band show like yourself, I use 2 backing track players, guitar and vocal, so I need 4 channels
    to run my show,
So do this put me in a situation where the onboard mixer is useless to me and if I were to link up and use my own mixer
am I losing quality here, the true sound that the stage pas was built for by bypassing its own mixer,
also how do you link the external mixer, a video tutorial would be great from you,
also my greatest fear is if someone were to fall up against the collum and snap it in half, that being the spacers, is that your pa finished, or can you just purchase the spacers and top speaker separate,
party people can have a little too much to drink as we all know and lose balance completely, anyway your review of the system has really got me thinking here, and would love to read a reply from you Robert,
it may be of benifit too, to cut out the players and do as you did by putting all your music on the app, and that's another video lol,
    excellent review, well done!
    Regards,
    Matt

Hi Robert, if this unit is capable of replacing an external mixer I’ll be impressed. I owned a Maui 28 mix, and the mic preamp was horrible. I now use Yamaha dsr 15s and an x air mixer, it’s no big deal dragging a separate mixer around but would love to know how you get on without a mixer let us know ASAP Ps. Having an integral music player is a real plus, I hate switching between x air and my playback app mid song, that looks rubbish to the customers. cheers. Kev

I have had this unit for roughly a month, and I haven't had to use a mixer on it yet. I love the mixer on the StagePas 1K. Since I am a one-man-band, I record all my tracks here at home in my studio and then put them into my iPad. So to have the control of the 1K and my tracks all in the same app streamline my workflow and performance. I have never tried the StagePas 1K with an external mixer, but I may to try that to see how it performs.

I have two PA speakers: a JBL Eon One, and a Bose S1 Pro. With both, if I plug in a microphone like a Shure SM58, the volume output is, well, pitifully low. But if I use a mixer (I have a Mackie ProDX4) and I plug in the microphone into it, then connecting the mixer to the speaker, the volume is very significantly improved! What is the microphone volume like in your StagePas 1K?

So... (please excuse my stupidity here) is this louder and more powerful than the Stagepas 600? Obviously 1000w is more than 600w but reading the specs comparison online, the Stagepas 600 produces 129db whilst the Stagepas 1000 produces 119db. Am I missing something?
I’m a solo singer/songwriter performer and wondering if anyone has had any experience using these and if you really can do without a floor monitor using this PA?
    Thanks in advance! :-)

    • @BluesCat1980
      @BluesCat1980  3 года назад +1

Okay, these PA's are kind of in a class all their own because of how they produce sound. A tradition to speaker system (woofer and a horn) produce a sound that is more directional than radiating like these tower systems. These tower arrays are intended to fill an area with sound, so even though it my have a lower SPL threshold, it radiates and moves sound around the room with much more efficiency and even spread. Also keep in mind, these the StagPas 1K has no horns in it. It has tailored small drivers that handle the midrange and treble. So by the sheer nature of not having a horn driver, the SPL will be less. But, don't let that detour you if you're interested in buying one.
One of the major things I have learned too, is that these systems are not about how loud you can get, but more about the quality and fidelity of the audio. Not trying to be mean or snarky, but there are a lot of people who concentrate on volume over audio quality. If a person needs more volume vs. quality, then your traditional two-way box is the way to go. But with some of those cabinets, you end up with a definite drop and sound the further you get away from them in the back of a room. These tower arrays are meant to sound the same almost everywhere in the room. If you want to compare PA's, it is best to compare these tower arrays to each other and not you tradition speakers on a pole. As I said before, they are so different from each other, trying to compare the two is sort comparing a dumb truck to a Cadillac. Yes they're both vehicles, but designed for completely different applications.
And to answer your question, I have been using tower arrays now for the better part of 6 years. They do a great job replacing floor monitors. Because of their nature, they reject feedback excellently. You can put them directly behind you and you hear exactly what the audience hears. And because of their incredibly wide dispersion horizontally, you can set them behind you off center of axis to further help reject feedback and hear just as well as if they were directly behind you.

I know electronics and people who do. We looked in the unit and we agree: Low quality, just getting by parts. All electronic gear manufactured have a 1% to 3% failure rate. Most will work for years. True, any system can fail. Have had 6 pieces of Yamaha gear fail for the same reason, power supply. Have had EV gear, Fender, Korg, Bose, Roland, and Boss fail for different reasons. But Yamaha (Bose too) uses low tolerance parts that fail either slowly over time or quickly as mine did. I stand by my statements.

@@Ricky-jj1jj I'm not going to sit here and argue with you, because I have been using these for over a year with no issues. I have some Yamaha DBR's, DXR's, and DXS subs I have absolutely no issues with. You just had a lemon. You're not the only that knows people who know electronics. I have pushed my StagePas 1K's to almost red lining for hours at a time and had no issues whatsoever. Stand by your statements if you want, but I am an experienced sound tech, a performing musician, and an audio engineer.

The Bluetooth on these are garbage. I'm looking to sell mine just after a few times using its just too muddy sounding for me.
Unless you use that app . But I'm not trying to carry around and extra iPad or use an app on my phone . I may as well use a small mixer . But again the Bluetooth is crap Unless your very close to it

It's hard to get decent hight end for vocals I even tried different mics 🤷🏽‍♂️ I

@@timothysmallaxe Understand these units have no high frequency horn driver. People expect these things to function like a regular top horn-loaded speaker with a sub, and they are different than that. .y grandpa always used to say, "You can't drive a dump truck and expect it to perform like Ferrari."
