Are the Eastern & Oriental Express and the Woodlands-JB Central Shuttle Trains the two remaining trains that still use the Singapore Woodlands Train Checkpoint?
Nope, it will be replaced by a new service, Special Express Thaksina Rathaya 31/32 Bangkok - Hat Yai, while the Special Express Thaksin 37/38 (Bangkok - Sungei Golok) will be modified to split into two trains in Hat Yai, with train 37 continuing to Sungei Golok, and a new train 45 continuing to Padang Besar Station. railtravelstation.com/state-railway-of-thailand/southern-line/international-express/
ho alex yup. you need to take a shuttle train from hat yai to padang besar. after the immigration clearance, take either the ets or kommuter to Butterworth followed by the ferry ride to penang island.
Speaking of the International Express, it no longer goes from Bangkok to Butterworth via Hat Yai and Padang Besar but as of today it goes from Bangkok Railway Station to Padang Besar via Hat Yai am I right?
It is really possible and I wish them to do so too. But.... the policy now is no more regular diesel express trains in ETS sectors, as KTMB now wants to concentrate their small engines to serve East Coast and Gemas - JB.
Does this station have a customs and immigration area for the Eastern & Oriental Express and the International Express passengers coming from Bangkok Railway Station who are going onwards to either the Singapore Woodlands Train Checkpoint or Butterworth Railway Station?
When they leave Malaysia at this station, do the passengers first go through Malaysian Customs and Immigration then through Thai Customs and Immigration?
I know at the Singapore Woodlands Train Checkpoint, the passengers first go through Singaporan Customs & Immigration then through Malaysian Customs & Immigration.
Yes. The Customs are located adjacent to the Thai station master's office on the ground floor. E&O passengers don't disembark though, it seems like their passports are checked onboard in Padang Besar.
Great video. Thanks. Have you been to Gemas? You should if you haven't

Who's that man at the 23:37 mark?
I'm talking about the brown uniformed man.
Padang Besar's Thai Station Master. He takes care of incoming trains from Thailand or outgoing to Thailand.
50:20 kenapa dia pakai wagon ktmb?
Sebab tren ni perkhidmatan KTMB, bukan SRT. KTMB menyewa enjin SRT untuk membawa kontena ke dalam Hatyai.
