I want to clarify, after editing this footage, that a lot of the issues with this video (namely the audio) were totally user error. I haven’t shot a video on my cell phone in years and totally goofed a few times by covering the mic. There were some issues that made me consider not posting this, but I really wanted to share the message that things don’t have to be perfect to be valuable. So I’m sharing it. I hope this served to encourage those of you on the fence to just get started with what you have. You have something valuable to say! Don’t let your circumstances hold you back from sharing!
I really want to venture into vlogging and blogging, but wow am I just terrified for no real reason.

I really appreciate the way you don't overuse the word "like" and the phrase "I'm gonna go ahead and"; add xyz when you cook.
Too many great recipe videos are ruined by the cook's overuse of that and it's worse than a metal rake on concrete!

That was a good video, The best part was that there are flaws, and be yourself. The main reason I started is because my food is the best, lol, our family loves it, but also for our kids. So when they are adults and wonder how I /we cooked food and they forgotten the recipe. They can look back at the videos. A hands on guide if they want to cook it for there family. But that was my favorite vlog you did so far. Great vlog.

I agree with what you said about trying. The other day, I was talking about planting a lot of seeds and thinning them out because it's a lot easier too thin plants then it is to get a harvest from ones that you didn't plant!

Jess, believe it or not, I run a gaming youtube channel. I have 1.8k subs. The funny part is Im 60 years old. ANYONE can start a youtube channel. Just realize its work. Lots of work. But worth it.

Oh, Wow the Alpacas seem like they are getting less skittish, or maybe you changed your soap?Our female pupper prefers when we don’t bathe, and our boy pup wants to lick every drop of clean smell off our arms and legs, those nostrils just reminded me of our Animals and how they each seem to have perfume or odorant preferences too. Just got a vision of an Alpaca going through Nordstrom’s perfume and makeup section and that was hilarious wish I could film that..

Thank you for this! I finally went outside I did my first garden tour video with no editing whatsoever. You are an encouragement and blessing to us all, especially us old fogies! We've been gardening for 5 years or so and will be making huge improvements to the garden beds this fall thanks to years of trial and error, you, and Luke. Keep up the great work.

I feel like the video quality was great! I was wondering if the audio issues were you covering the mic, so I’m glad you spoke up and clarified that. I can't say thank you enough for this video! I started my first garden this year and decided to try vlogging. I'm also a public school teacher. Between the hustle and bustle of school starting, and only having a phone with very limited storage space, I have put off vlogging and my garden for the past couple of months. This gave me the motivation to get back out, clean up my garden, and shoot another VLOG or two.

I really enjoy watching your videos.
I am totally one of those wanting to get started on You Tube but I only have 2 raised garden beds currently. I certainly plan to expand to several more. I'll be doing so with scraps from every where I can find them. The only expense that I plan will be the best soil (of course) and gas in the vehicle to get these things (obviously-lol). I'll be working on this throughout the winter in preparation for Spring. Wish me luck!!

Fireflies! How I miss them...I was in Kentucky for 14 years and remember my grand daughter chasing fireflies at 6 years old when they came out there to live with us. Fireflies and red cardinal birds I really miss (and the people there)...we don't have them in CA.... but we have other things and other people...and I'm thankful for the neat things I can still experience here. Thanks for sharing!
Your honesty is so refreshing! I am a real person like you are. A lot of my family are very private and wouldn't want their lives on RUclips. I would like to start a RUclips gardening channel but I am doing the picking on myself routine. . My daughter and I started filming our gardening adventures this spring on my phone. A few years ago, I had cherry tomatoes ( F1 hybrids) and some of those dropped and the seeds sprouted the following year. These volunteers turned out to be purple cherry-tomatoes ( and I have never ever had any purple tomatoes in my garden). The hybrids must have been half purples but appeard red. Maybe the ones you had in your garden were something alike? That bell-pepper plant made me grin from ear to ear. It´s so tiny compared to mine... I kept mine in the green-house ( with all doors and windows open) this year and they are almost as high as I am ( and I´m not short) . Have to admit : I watered A LOT!!! But I have a crazy harvest of bell-peppers this year and the plants are still growing and producing more fruit. Living overseas, it is already dark out, when I watch your videos. I love how you extend my day in the garden with taking me into yours! Thank you!

I am so glad you posted this, mistakes and all. I started my youtube channel almost a year ago because I was inspired by your channel and your work. I love being a part of your story online. I have been told I can be a perfectionist, but I knew if I waited for perfect, I would never get started. So, with my iPhone and a rickety tripod, I started filming. Even my mom thought my first video was boring, but I had filmed it three times (once the sound didn't work...once something else happened....) and I knew if I didn't get that video posted I would never get started. So I posted it. I have some lovely people who have followed me...not very many for a year of work, but it is such an honor that folks spend time from their busy lives with me in the garden...despite my frizzy hair, the loud noises (ack....the wind!), and more than occasional rambling... This has been a year of new things in the garden, youtube...trying hay bale gardening for the first time...growing new things...so many garden fails, but so many good things as well. I'm still shooting on my iPhone (and boy does it show sometimes....) someday I may be fancy, but if I wait for someday...nothing will ever happen. I came home to help momma in her final battle with cancer, so having the garden to work in has been a blessing...being able to share an other wise lonely journey in the garden...so worth it. So thanks for being one of the main reasons I started my channel last year...I am so glad you are you.
Hi from a cold wet part o Scotland... we used to do the same when we were younger in my mum and dads garden.. eat the wee nippy turnips ..radishes ... tomato's straight from the garden not forgetting the rhubarb with a pockey hat o suger...

Jess, this video was absolutely helpful and encouraging. I just posted a video maybe a month ago on my channel, with me talking, made on my laptop, and I plan on doing more once my phone comes in the mail. After years of wanting to really start creating content and waiting, I had started to realize the same thing - that I have to just start. However, it was great hearing it again from you. Since that video weeks ago I've again been putting it off. So, I might do a video this weekend before my phone with the nice camera even comes. Thanks for renewing my zeal for it.
Also, you have the most beautiful life, the exact life I want. You live in paradise and I live vicariously through your videos, especially the garden tours and the vlogs. I have done some landscaping this year and started an in-ground container garden, because that's what I can do with the means I have now. Gardening is a lot like starting a RUclips channel - you just have to start, wherever you are. My little garden and tiny outdoor space I've been working on, is such a great tool in coping with depression. (I don't fight depression because, like all emotions and biological processes it does have a purpose, but rather I work through it and my renewed space has been such a wonderful outlet for me.)
Thank you so much for all you do. You are such a wonderful source of inspiration & encouragement, as well as positivity and beauty especially in these trying times. Please don't ever stop doing what you're doing and sharing your beautiful life with us. And continue to stay strong yourself.
I am very glad that you decided to go ahead and post this video. I haven't really started vlogging my new project, but all of the videos I've done we're on cell phones. Anywhere from my iPhone 5S to the new Android devices I use. I mainly haven't purchased a camera because it's just not in the budget. At this point I really don't need one. But I am glad that you filmed and showed that it could be done for all those that are struggling with that issue.

We only shoot our videos on iPhones, we have a small tripod that we use to hold. Great video even if it wasn't perfect! That is what makes it fun and different
you always have the best advice, i am learning so much from you and the others i watch on here (you name some from time to time). being out in my yard (future garden) is the best therapy i could find for myself. i grew up with my elders who would always have a garden, its one of my most cherished memories i had as a child, just being out in nature and its beauty. i have been recording some of my garden projects and such of myself and with my children. and this video just so happen to be where i am at with sharing my videos diaries and my insecurities (i have many). i am so thankful i found your channel, and now i am binge watching as many as i can!! LOL
