  • Where have you been? What does the apartment of a missionary look like? What does "a 1LDK apartment" mean? How many tatami mats fit in your apartment? What has been the worst day of your time in Japan so far? How much is your rent?
    The answers to all of these and more are within this video!
    (also apologies for the audio cutting short in some of the transitions - I'm not a professional and didn't realise my phone was doing it till too late! Always something to improve and learn when doing new things!)

    Adam my brother you are missing out by having unplugged your bidet. It's the thing I miss the most from Japan

    I hear you on the water disaster freak out! I've had a few through the years. It's bad enough when you don't know what to do and how to stop it. But to also have the language barrier would be even more stressful. Glad you finally got things sorted out.

    Man, what a beautiful video! You definitely gained a follower. Finally a proper apartment tour without dumb lofi music lmao. Straight to the point as well. Plus, I enjoyed the fact that you went in-depth with the descriptions, explaining concepts and cultural habits that may not seem obvious to people who don't know too well Japan and its culture. I would totally live in an apartment like this, it's exactly what I'm looking forward to living in if I ever manage to move there.

    Glad you're ok, Adam, apart from tiredness, which hopefully will level out as you acclimatise to your new life over the coming weeks.

    Hi Adam, I’ve been to Japanese frens apartments & the air conditioners is both aircon in summer & heater in winter. Think it’s the same in all Japan so u might want to check on that.

    We just watched it as a family (my son is very curious about Japan) and enjoyed it immensely! Quite tight digs as compared to the U.S. but fascinating!

      Glad you enjoyed it! Things are certainly more compact here than most of the US!

    I love it...I often feel the Japanese seem to accommodate their tenants more than in the US...although the apartments are small..what else do we need..a large apartment seems a waste of space..dead space..but to get a washer with the apartment and a large bathroom with those amenities, are really unheard of here.I love the clothes hanging thing and multiple heaters..such an efficient little apartment..I like it...much luck to you in your endeavors.

    I have come to love those little entryways with the shoe storage. I wish we had that in the U.S. Many places here have a general entryway. But it's usually not like this, a space specifically set out for that purpose. And the shoe storage! Also, do people there use keychains? I watched another Japan video where the person had just a single, loose key. I'd lose that in about 5 minutes. In fact, in the video I saw, the guy was traveling and it did fall out of his pocket while he was on a train. Thankfully, it was found. But, yeah, I'm always paranoid about losing my keys, so I make sure I have it on a keychain of some sort!

    Hanging wet clothing does affect the humidity inside? I would think they offer a dehumidifier along with it. What if you need to wash large item like big blanket? Thank you fir for your time. It was very interesting.

    • @newlifejapan
      @newlifejapan  7 месяцев назад +1

      You can buy a dehumidifier but there are also basic fans/vents in the wall of the "sunroom" to let airflow happen.

      yeah I actually had to get one to move into my apartment - which meant not only buying a custom made one but getting it registered at the city office which involved about 3 different forms due to me being a foreigner!
