- In this woodturning video, I will make my biggest vase of my woodturning career also to turn something different where NO resin is involved :) It will be as high as 46cm or 18” and as wide as 21cm or 8.5”. Made out of 276 individual coconut palm tree pieces glued together with black dyed tulip wood in between each segments and layers. Turning such project requires a great level of patience and skills too. The total build was spread across number of weeks due to loads of glue drying time but the total working hours was around 30-35hrs. Finished with Rubio Monocoat Pure for great long lasting beautiful finish.

Taking a quick brake of turning resin 😅 What do you think of segmented woodturning?
I love them even though they are very time consuming but for some reason they don’t do very well on my channel so not sure the audience is much into it, but correct me if I am wrong 😀
I liked it and the finished colours were a really good match.
@@captainwin6333 Thank you so much 😀
I like segmented turning and will be getting into it soon, having just bought a modest Charnwood 10/20 drum sander. Your work is exceptional 🌞
You're wrong!! This is magnificent
@@johnsingleton531 Thank you so much 😀
Well done brother u killed it thanks for sharing it with us all
Gorgeous build. Really looks like brick
I should have read your comments first!
Absolutely gorgeous!! I love your resin pieces because they're so colorful, but this is just as beautiful! Wonderful job!
OMG, the grain of that wood popped so beautifully on this segmented vase and then the contrast of the other pieces just tied this together so nicely. Beyond impressed!
Yes - my mind was blown by the sheer craftmanship, patience to cut and glue all those pieces together and beauty of this huge vase - love all the wood colours used, its certainly a show stopper - excellent woodturning yet again! 🤯💥👍👀
Hi David this is magnificent and unique you have put lots of work into this item and the grain and colour is really lovely. It did blow my mind. Amanda xx
Out of curiosity, since I've never worked with it before, how much would it cost to do a project this size entirely out of purple heart wood?
Extremely hard to say as it depends on loads of different factors but mainly on the person who would make it and cost/value of his/her time. I would say starts from £1000 GBP
@@DavidsWoodturning Wow, that's an expensive project. The end result would be amazing though 😁
Has an Egyptian burial appearance..
Absolutely stunning turning pal. I can't see why people wouldn't like this. They just don't realise how much work goes into a segmented piece 👌👌🤟🤟
That vase is stunningly mind-blowing! 🤯
What a gorgeous piece of art! ⚱️
I've never heard of tulip wood before and all three colors work so well together! I really like the purple ish wood that you used for the base and the rim of the vase. 💜
The patience you had for this piece was remarkable! I don't have that! 🤦♀️🤷♀️
You've outdone yourself Dave! Bravo! 👏
Wow very beautiful sir have a great day ✌️
Thank you so much 😀 Fair bit of time went into it 🙂 Have a great day!
Mind blown 🤯 Absolutely Stunningly Beautiful wood!! Great job!!!! ❤💜
Beautiful work David! Even tho I haven't got into segmented woodturning yet I really like watching it. What happen to you doing voice over? Take care and GOD BLESS 🙏!
LOVE LOVE LOVE it. It reminds me of a Grecian Urn by the shape. I;m curious what kind of wood was the top and bottom? Please keep up the videos love watching you work
I have liked many of your other pieces but this is by far my favorite of what I've seen so far! It's absolutely beautiful! The grain and the colors, it's gorgeous!
I'm not a wood turner, but I enjoyed watching this build. Very nice. thks
Awesome! This vase is gorgeous! Great job! I absolutely love this piece!
Beautiful! I love to watch you create your art. I would love it if you would tell us how did you get the wood pieces purple, what was the black material you used.
Amazing...! Keep that one to hand down to your Grandkids...!
beautiful! Wondering if you have thought about doing a resin cut-offs and wood segmented turning?
I have not tried segmented turning yet . what angle have you cut these. Jim s woodshop.
That is amazing, I wouldn't have the patience to make something like that.😮
beautiful piece David, But where is your melodious voice over?
great work very stylish, i would buy one if I could.
This is a great piece. I like your internal sanding tool - is it homemade?
How do you determine the angles? I have late stage Lyme disease and struggle with math
WOW!!!! 🤯 Absolutely beautiful art bro!! Thank you for sharing!! 👍🏾👍🏾
Probably the nicest looking palm pieces I’ve ever seen. Very nice!
That turned out so beautiful. The coconut palm looked a lot like cork when it was finished... to me, that is. Not a bad thing. As I said... a very beautiful piece.
Your vision is outstanding. I'm impressed that you carefully aligned the pieces to make it perfect. This, kids, is why you need math!
Thank you so much 😀 Nowadays you can use softwares to do all the calculations but certainly understand your point
Black Palm and Purple Heart, brave one aren’t you? Beautiful work! Any splinters?
Thank you 😀 Oh yeah had quite a few splinters 😀
It is absolut beautiful :D I my self LOVE colore and mix material, but I enjoy all your work and I don`t think I miss ANY videos :D
What carbide tool brand do you use?
This might be an obviously answered question (but apparently not to me). How do you calculate the correct diameter of the base when a vase like that is top heavy and won’t topple over?
Honest answer, I don’t. It is surprisingly stable but probably wouldn’t be safe where toddlers are running around all day 😀
Stunning
Thank you so much 😀 Fair bit of time went into it 🙂
You did very well.
BEAUTIFUL piece, David! Your patience and skill paid off in spades. Always learn something from your videos. Thanks for sharing your skill and amazing pieces with us.
Another amazing piece. Better and better! You have outdone yourself!
Very beautiful David.
This is really beautiful. The wood has an amazing grain. Great job.❤
Thank you so much 😀
I actually do more segmented turning than solid wood turning. Rarely I'll throw in some epoxy. As far as watching on the tube, I watch them all. You never know where your next inspiration will come from.
Wow, David, fantastic!
Really nice! Great job
Absolutely beautiful piece
Now that’s a labour of love. Gorgeous work my friend.
Thank you so much 😀
Toll geworden ….. Bravo mein Freund
Stunning 🔥
bardzo ciekawy pomysł, jestem pod wrażeniem😃😍
Looks great. Good stuff
Amasing work.😊
Beautiful Piece! I'm not a segmented turner but I admire the work you and others do.
That is a fantastic piece.
I love this piece, always stunned by how skilled, artistic and patient you are
Incredible, nice job
Beautiful vase, thanks for sharing this with us.😘
Love both the segmented turning and resin projects ❣️
That’s lovely 🌞
Wow! Beautiful!
Okay Mind Blown
I love the top and bottom wood. The color really popout with the finish. Congratulations.
I don't know about the numbers of audience, but the "Mayuko Channel" do most of his projects of segmented turning and the pieces are just as beautiful as this one you made.
Simply amazing!!!
Thanks David.
Gorgeous piece! You never disappoint! ❤😊
OOH…😮😮😮lovely 💗
Spectacular 😊
Looks great.
Magnificent!
Excellent !
Un très bel objet !!
Lovely 😍
I'm not big on segmented but this is a real nice turn.
Thank you so much 😀 Reason I like segmented, there is absolutely no limit one you can create. There are even softwares to design super complex projects what looks stunning. One day…
The things you make are all nice, but it seems like all anyone with a lathe makes are bowls, plates, vases, or pillars. There was a guy named Mustardpiece who did things quite a bit different, and they were awesome. This was a very well-done and nice piece. Don't get me wrong. But, it didn't blow my mind. It was just another vase. I'm sure it was hard work and time-consuming. Can you do anything that is truly unique? Something that is not a straight-up cylinder or bowl or egg? Not a square plate, or any one of the thousands of common things made on a lathe? I'm not trying to insult your awesome work. I'd just like to see something truly amazing. Off center turning, reverse turning, something truly YOU putting it all into the art.
Whilst I have a lathe and i turn things I am also a content creator. I know Mustardpiece well and he certainly made amazing stuff. But never got the views. And since i make my living out of content creation I will make items I believe the audience will want to see and pleases me during the making process
@David's Woodturning I would think the audience would love to see you go all out on a piece. Although, I also understand playing it safe for the views. Again, I hope you don't think I'm crapping on your work. I'm not. You do fabulous work within the confines of RUclips. Keep up the good work.
@@RancidDragonProductions Thank you!
what an absolutely gorgeous piece...love the purple pieces in particular... so innovative...well done!!!
Thank you so much! Yes , purple heart never fails to amaze me and others 😀
Nice
That is one stunning piece of work 🎉❤
Thank you so much!
Wow! Beautiful job! That was a lot of work! Its beautiful :))
Thank you so much! Sometimes nice to work on time consuming projects the reward finishing these pieces are always more rewarding 😀
@@DavidsWoodturning I agree :)
You must have as they say ( the patience of a saint ) fantastic piece , how would you put a price on it to sell 😊
Yeah i do have a great level of patience for sure. Yeah pricing such a piece is difficult. Will not be for sale for now as i have some longer plans for my bigger items so building up an inventory
@@DavidsWoodturning i know you will do well👍
😮
Loving the grain in that wood!
Nicely done once again. Thanks for the inspiration!
My pleasure! Thank you so much 😀
...wow, David...the prep work was massive, but in the end, well worth it! The piece is amazing!...👍
Matt
Thank you so much 😀 That’s for sure. And i only recorded a very small amount of the job what it takes to make a vase like this. 😉
@@DavidsWoodturning Since I haven't done it, I really can't imagine the amount of work...but it's beautiful...
However, what I think you should do is cut off one of the fingers on your push stick and write "ouch!" on it...😅
Matt
Gorgeous and huge vase!
Thank you so much 😀 Fair bit of time went into it 🙂
@@DavidsWoodturning I can'not imagine how much time you actualy input into this project.. You have some determination, I might tell..
@@danielvasileioicaliuc8332 Thank you 😀
absolutely gorgeous!!!
Thank you so much!!
Absolutely gorgeous piece. Great idea and talk about prep being a huge part of the process. You should be very proud. Congrats!
Thank you so much 😀 Absolutely, even though the wood itself was planed on all four sides so much other work must be done.
Excellent , functional , well thought out piece 👍 5 Stars 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
Thank you so much 😀 Fair bit of time went into it 🙂
