    Another tip is checking and getting the machine ready before getting started by cleaning, oiling etc

    • @luyasi
      @luyasi  21 день назад

      Yes. That's very important because if the machine is not taken care of, it can really slow and frustrate the work when it begins to malfunction. Thank you for this additional tip.

  • @WaterNai
    @WaterNai 14 дней назад +8

    Yes, pressing is so important! If your fabric is wrinkled before you sew it, it is so difficult to get it to cooperate. And even though pressing a seam might feel like an interruption, it’s faster and yields a better result to get the seam flat and locked i. So it cooperates with the next part of your sewing.
    These were great tips! Thanks for sharing.

    • @luyasi
      @luyasi  14 дней назад +1

      You're most Welcome. You're so correct WaterNai. Pressing makes the work go smoother and faster. It even enables you to enjoy the work more. Thank you so much for the feedback. I love your name WaterNai. It has a certain vibe to it.

    Thank you for this wonderful video.. I'm from India.
    All the 3 tips you have given are highly useful.
    Particularly I like the 3rd one, when you are meticulous to avoid mistakes, you have more chances to make it.
    I would like to share one more tip which has helped me a lot.
    Before going to start sewing an apparel, all the pieces should be cut ready, including even non- important things like bias tapes, button pieces etc and stored in an accurate way, so that you won't miss it.
    When I was learning, I used to cut pieces in between sewing. That took me a lot of time.
    After that, even if I cut before hand, I misplace them and searching them would take a lot of time which gives a lot of frustration and demotivation.

    • @luyasi
      @luyasi  17 дней назад +1

      You're welcome Lalitha. You're so correct; cutting and organizing all the pieces before starting the project is so important. Organizing everything keeps them handy and makes the work go fast. I just came by your video and I’m thankful for your insight on this issue. I’m not professionally trained but I love the idea of being able to make simple and uncomplicated pieces for myself. I was also tired of paying an arm and a leg to dry cleaners for simple alterations to my clothes so I bought myself a sewing machine and it’s saved me money and time and I’ve learned a lot too from tutorials on yt. But sometimes I don’t enjoy sewing because of this particular issue you’ve addressed. Yesterday I tried making a simple kimono dress I’ve put off making for so long. I decided to make it yesterday and when I tell you it took me the whole day to make something that only took 30 minutes tops for someone else, I’m not even exaggerating. 😩. I was so tired and it sucked the joy of sewing out of me. So I’m glad to know that even some of the trained suffer from this issue and I’m not alone. Thank you very much and your tips and secrets are well noted.🙏🏽

      @modestfashion1277 It will get better with time. That pressure is common at the beginning. Sometimes when a customer states the amount spent on a fabric that he/she wants you to sew, tension can also build up. It happened to me a lot. As you sew more clothes, the confidence will build up. Another way to build the confidence fast is to seek more knowledge in tailoring. Thank God you're in the right place.

    This is so correct. I hate when my bobbin runs out in the middle of sewing. When i started sewing, i did not respect ironing oh, i felt it waste my time but with time, i realize it actually speed things up. Thank you

    • @luyasi
      @luyasi  22 дня назад +3

      Lolzzz, that's true, i can relate. When the bobbin runs out during sewing, and you stop to get it filled, it kills momentum and prolongs the work. Yes, ironing takes a lot of time and it's worse when you have to sew and then go and iron continuously. That's why it's best to iron before starting the project.

      Yes. You're correct. It's very difficult to get pictures from clients. Try and invest in a manniquin; it will yield massive returns. You can start with a half body manniquin or a headless manniquin; it's cheaper. For the background, you can start with painting part of your wall and getting some artwork on it. Thanks for the feedback.

      @luyasi  23 дня назад +5

      Yes. You're correct, but the ironing during the sewing process doesn't often take much time except when you're doing a complex design. The key is to cut and iron what can be ironed before starting the project. Then your ironing would not take so much time once you start the project. Thanks for the feedback.

      You're most welcome Christiane. Cutting is usually a very delicate issue whether you're cutting the fabric from a pattern piece or from scratch. Tanks for this update. Pls I want to confirm between and industrial machine and a manual machine, what is really the time difference in terms of sewing faster

    • @luyasi
      @luyasi  21 день назад +1

      You're welcome. Industrial machines are much faster than a manual one. Depends on the make and speed of the industrial machine, it can be 5 times to 10 times faster. It also depends on the user; some experienced people can be very fast with a manual machine. You can also get tired faster on a manual because of the stress of pedaling and that's why most people attach a motor to their manual machine. I'll do a video soon on the pros and cons of both the industrial and manual machine.

    Please can you recommend an electric sewing machine that one can buy which is still very good but cannot afford the big industrial machines

    • @luyasi
      @luyasi  22 дня назад +1

      A good electric sewing machine that is strong enough to sew commercially is also quite expensive. It's almost as expensive as an industrial sewing machine. There are cheaper ones but those cheaper electric sewing machines cannot work well for long hours and they can't do heavy work. If you must buy an electric machine, get a heavy duty electric machine. As regards to brands, i've seen positive reviews about Alfa electric machine though I've not used it personally. Another alternative I'll suggest is to get a manual machine and attach a motor to it but if you want to get an electric machine, make sure it's a heavy duty electric machine. I'll review some sewing machine brands in a future video.

    • @luyasi
      @luyasi  22 дня назад

      It's most likely one out of two reasons why this happens; it's either because you're leaving too much sewing allowance on the sleeve and the garment or it's because you're curving the sleeve too much. Check out my video on how to properly cut a sleeve on this link

    Please machine doesn't sew Lycra fabrics . I use a semi industrial machine and anytime I'm Sewing Lycra the thread is always cutting and doesn't move. Also I got the needle for Lycra but it still doesn't work like sewing normal fabric 😢😢

    • @luyasi
      @luyasi  9 дней назад +1

      The problem is that your machine doesn't sew that kind of fabric well. There's a quick solution to that problem. One way to sew such kinds of fabric is to cut pieces of paper and place it on top of the fabric where you want to sew. Stay updated on the channel. I'll do a video soon on some methods and hacks you can use to solve this problem.

    • @oyeyemioluwatoyin2484
      @oyeyemioluwatoyin2484 23 дня назад +1

      To my own opinion,I don't think that can be corrected except you still have some allowance left,my view though 🤷

    • @luyasi
      @luyasi  23 дня назад

      It's very difficult to correct a tight crotch because it has to do with a curve. One of the best ways to do it is to loose the entire trouser and reshape the crotch, but there has to be extra allowance on the trouser.

    You need to fill your bobbin properly that is the worst way to fill a bobbin the tension will be off, no wonder your stitches on the garments from Africa looks so rough, there is no finesse in your seams, it is not faster but it is neat and beautiful.

    • @luyasi
      @luyasi  13 дней назад +2

      There's a technique we use to add tension on the thread while using that method to fill the thread. Although it's not the official method of filling a thread, and not the best method but it can be properly done with the proper technique. Thanks for the feedback.
