@@GameOfLife55 Not really, I mean on any other surface yes... But Stan's game is really not the best for grass... I think at Grass he cant compete with Big 3
I was at this match, in the fourth row after camping out in the queue overnight. What a match to catch, Wawrinka had just won the french open so I was expecting him to get through. Beautiful tennis, great crowd, a lifetime memory
I think it's too late now and maybe he never really had a chance, but i would've liked to see Wawrinka win Wimbledon just so he'd have completed career grand slam without ever being ranked #1
@@andrejmitrovic4958 i agree. Because Wawrinka started winning more matches against big 3 after the beginning of AO 2014. Before that he was an average sort of player.
@@andrejmitrovic4958 We have absolutely no idea about that. Stan's worst surface is indeed grass, but in his 2014-2016 prime he was definitely a top 8 grass player. His best Wimby match was against Fed the year before in 2014 where it was a matter of Fed being more clutch at key points. However Wawrinka is stylistically a hard match up for Nole (hence why he leads the GS H2H since 2014-onward), so there would have been a good chance he would have beat Nole in that semi. Don't forget he beat Nole at the RG final a month before, so he would have the mental edge going into that match as well.
What a great match that was- Revenge of the French open 2013, similar match but Wawrinka won. I hope we'll get some matches from 2011. Nadal-Djokovic, Nadal-Murray, Djokovic-Tsonga, Federer-Djokovic...
A couple of things held Gasquet back from achieving greater heights. The first was his forehand grip. He was one of the very few players since the 1980s who adopted an almost continental grip. Back in the 1980s only McEnroe and Edberg were the players using a similar grip, how rare that is. So, Gasquet's forehand was erratic and unreliable. Then I am not sure about his athleticism, he was not the quickest. Those two factors held him back, but the forehand was his biggest isse.
And his lack of power on serve… said Gasquet himself looking back at his almost ended career… and mentioned by the commentator 1:41:00 (average speed 10 miles lower than Stan)
I always find this comment unfair and just lazily going with the consensus. He has an unbelievable backhand and but his forehand and serve have never been anywhere near the very top guys. I’d say he’s achieved about what he should have
@@Jordothecat98 when he was younger his 4hand was good. He could have improved his serve like djo & nadal but he never had the mental strength to be a top player

@LUCAS LORENS EMILIO CERVERA Based on? When did prime Wawrinka play a Djokovic at Wimby? Besides, at the end of Wimby the grass has detoriated so much it's not as fast anymore. This + the fact he is stylistically a very hard match up for Nole makes me think Stan would have beaten Nole in the semis (had he gotten past Gasquet).
Main difference of their backhands: Richard's generates more spin - Stan's higher speed.
On average. Gasquet can outhit Stan‘s hardest for single shots

Richard Gasquet beated Stan wawarinka in Wimbledon QF in the epic 5 setter battle which is crazy.
I'm just hear for the backhands :)
Amazing match, one of the best Gasquet tournaments ever, he comfortably went through very good players there, but Novak was at another level
Wawrinka would made a better match against Djokovic than Gasquet.
This was hardly comfortable for Gasquet.

Both single handed backhand are so amazing!
Gasquet's problem like Tsonga and Monfils is that they have to loose one set to start playing well. So they always run after the score.
Typical French problem.
We also need to spot another man gazing at our wife to start desiring her 😅
Allez francais
It's fun to watch two players with one handed without the Oh No Oh Yess sounds.
Gasquet biggest underachiever on tour unfortunately. Has more talent than Djoker or Murray.
