- It’s another Malaysian holiday and today is Malaysia day
A colourful, vibrant and lively celebration where people from diverse ethnicities and cultures come together to celebrate the unity and richness of Malaysia's heritage
We didn’t know much about what this day was going to involve, all we knew was to meet at one of 7 main LRT stations, where a crowd of people make their way to Merdeka Square and BOY were we in for a treat?!?

16 September - MALAYSIA DAY (also known as *Formation of Malaysia* in *16 September 1963* ) is a day to celebrate federation between Malaya (today’s Malaysia Peninsula), Sabah, Sarawak & Singapore become one country.
This is why those 🇲🇾 Malaysia flags still on buildings & in the streets from 1st August to 16 September. This period we call as ‘National Month’ (Bulan Kebangsaan).
Official national scale of Malaysia Day celebration were held in Sarawak this year.
We love to see all the Malaysia flags and get to experience these incredible celebrations with people here in Malaysia !

31st August 1957 (Independence of Malay Peninsula)
22nd July 1963 (Independence of Sarawak)
31st August 1963 (Independence of Sabah)
16th September 1963 (The formation of Federation of Malaysia) - on this day we celebrate our differences and unity. Thats why you saw everyone wearing traditional outfits..
It was so good to be part of these celebrations and see this amazing unity on such a special day

However federal of Malaysia independence day to follow federal of Malaya due to laws & constitution based on federal of Malaya, usage of ringgit as currency, etc.
The last governor of Sarawak, Alexander Waddell left office at 12.30pm on 15/9/1963.
The last governor of North Borneo, William Allmond Codrington Goode left office on 16/9/1963

Malaysia Day is to celebrate the day where Malaya, Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore come to together and form into a new Federation that is called Malaysia in 1963.
Since both of you are Irish, the best analogy would be, in an alternative timeline, where England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland came together peacefully and through negotiation, form a new union called the United Kingdom.

The traditional hat is called "tanjak" and the traditional short "sword" is called "keria". The game using a short string is called Spinning Top. Nothing beats the original taste of milo from the milo truck itself.
I loooove keria! 😋😋😋 When I was a schoolkid my mom would bake or cook or whatever, all sorts of traditional malay _kuih_ several times in a week, just for tea and nighttime snacking. And one of those _kuih_ that I really loved was _keria_ with the authentic goodness of mashed real tapioca as the dough, you can truly taste it. Nowadays they've come up with a slightly different version of _kuih keria_ in which they don't use white sugar as the caramelised coating, instead they use _gula melaka_ which is the traditional malay palm sugar which is really creamy and yummy! 😋😋😋
