@blancolirio Please keep this message highlighted for the locals? Or if all reads could please give it a thumbs up to keep is highlighted; while, Juan may still be traveling.
Well that's good news, it doesn't surprise me from everything I saw on this RUclips channel. Let me just say that while as of late I have been on the don't over react side of things, I think this channel has done a fantastic job keeping the news flowing. I also think that it is a good idea to question authority and be sure to listen to everything. I think we still need to watch what happens to the leak through the main dam, they say the repairs done there, this is previous to all the spillway trouble, seem to be working but if water is still visibly leaking through (I don't know) then I would want more answers on that. But that's a separate question. Great job on the coverage!
Juan Browne, it is difficult to even try to watch anywhere else. You really have the most accurate, interesting, need to know information. And You give it all in a manor of professionalism and seemingly pretty relaxed and You seem to me like You are glad to help us who are far away to understand how safe Our families in the area are. Thank You so Very Much. And I failed to mention all of the History and Technology of a dam that You Share with Us. Please continue the Wonderful Service You are providing. Thank You Again!!!
Your reporting is the most informative I have found anywhere. I have family in Oroville. Thank you for being in depth and intelligent. Helps me worry less about them.
Cannot tell you how much my husband and I have enjoyed your informative, non-hysterical videos on this news story. I've learned a ton. All our best from Alaska
I personally don't know you but thought that was a very well put together production, of the dam, what happened and how to repair it, even from a geological standpoint, to the massive anchor bolts with fill material to secure it to the existing rock foundation and shotcrete to stabilize the front of the broken spillway. Then finally the removal of excess debris flow into the channel. Well done piece of work. Very imformative and followed processes, Thanks Sam
AAAHHHH !!!! I got my fix!!!! Thanks Juan. No matter if someone has been tuned in to you from the start or if " You are just now joining us " your presentation gives the complete picture A to Z. Nice Job Again and Again Thanks Juan. Rich
i'm from the state of WV .. and i still think you are the most truthful media i can find not only on youtube but the enternet as well .. i was your 400th sub or somewhere round about .. thank you again for the truthful news you put out .. thanks again .. the best to you and your family .. also thank your friends who take you up in their planes to get the truth .. I believe you are an honest and good man
Couple of obviations: ( won't let me post the link ( Francis turbine by mekanizmalar ) ) Show the turbines in the power house work. Also the generators need a load on them to control the speed which is why the hydro lines have to be connected. It's not that simple but that's the basics...........The debris being washed down the hill is mostly heavy rocks and will sink to the bottom and not move upstream to plug the turbine outlet. They will however create a dam that will back up water into the turbines............Looking at the drone footage the brown stuff is clay and soft rock that will get washed away into the river. The grey stuff is harder rock that for the most part will resist erosion..............Head cutting is the same as Niagara Falls moving back upstream. Niagara at least has limestone under it, Oroville spillway mostly has clay which just washes away......The spillway is like a concrete highway, ugly to drive on.....And the stupid formatting will wipe out half of this.... Juan, you're the best
Due the fact that there are 3 turbines and 3 pump-turbine, the power station could, in emergency, if electric equipment has the possibility to manage it, to have two pumps and 3 turbines running, even without electric high voltage line, and the power generated by the turbines and alternators being wasted into the motors of the two pumps (there is around a 30% loss of energy between what the water makes going down into the turbine and what is given by the pump to the water to go up and that loss can be increased in closing a bit the valves protecting the pumps.). That could help the higher powerstation to let around 6000 CFS of net output flow. (10000 down, 4000 up) with enough pressure to stop any clay coming back. That system was used in some reverse pumping hydroelectric powerstations in Europe to start each pump working till it arrives at the good rotating velocity to be connected to the electrical grid. So you can have on the same station a turbine producing electricity to make starting the pumps. That is no more needed by modern variable velocity pumps and power electronic frequency converting systems.
Thank you for your work on these videos. I really have gotten pulled in to this story since that Sunday in February when things almost came off the rails. The Luscombe footage was very cool. I showed that segment to my Dad who flew a 65 horse one of those as a student pilot in 48. He enjoyed the video a great deal and told me a Luscombe story that ended with corn shocks in the tail wheel. The 47 is really a beaut.
I am very happy to see so many positive assessments over your videos about the Oroville Dam incident; so many that is becoming difficult to post an original comment so I ratify all of them. As a civil engineer that worked 21 years in hydroelectric construction, I can say that your videos are a special class. Unfortunately we didn’t meet at the passage over 23 de Maio avenue, maybe next time. Congratulations!!!
I am looking forward to your interview, that is if it's true, with disclosure media Juan. You good sir have been the only one that I believe has been giving us unbiased reports about this historic event!
This three weeks or so of reportage has been a breath of fresh air. Top rate professionalism from all citizens involved. Crystal clear video/drone feed. Enough data to keep a professor of fluvial hydrodynamics and mass sediment transport fully involved.and a real sense of enthusiasm. From now on RUclips is the news feed I'll be watching. No Spin, No hype , no prophets of doom and dismay.
Juan Brown makes the technical stuff comprehensible to the average viewer. The seriousness and urgency of this repair is certainly there, but without sensationalism. Excellent reporting.
Amazingly great video, Juan. You're getting to be the master video reporter on subjects I never thought I'd be interested in: dams, hydroelectricity, broken spillways, and rock bolts! Keep it up! I'm in San Diego, but have taken an interest in this partly because of your straight-forward reporting and GREAT graphics!
I am retired and put my wristwatch away the day I hung up the tools. I have to admit that your excuse for mixing up times and dates sounds a hell of a lot more fun!! We appreciate your commitment to reporting the Oroville story, Juan!!
As an international pilot, Juan's working life woould revolve around UTC time. Everything, including dates, is a different format to the usual daily local times most live with. It's one of those things that makes long haul flying so difficult to adjust to, and recover from. Which is why such industries usually schedule several days off after a duty cycle, so people can get back in to a normal family life.
I greatly appreciate all your effort in putting together all these very informative videos, and your effort to give as accurate information as possible. I have been watching your channel for weeks. It has been the best one for keeping updated. Thank you!
great reporting on the current state along with a fantastic recap and summary of the repair work. your work makes network news look like superficial infotainment. quality as good or better than 60 minutes without any "gotcha" journalism. your reports give me confidence that everyone working there are doing their best and are competent. you have a lot to be proud of.
Thanks again Juan. Yours is the only Oroville Dam update I watch. Every other one I've checked out were all doom & gloom sensationalists. Loved the drone footage. They're such awesome tools, it would be impossible to get a lot of that footage any other way. With the sonar, gps and glonass technology drones, they can fly a grid over the area then use the collected data to create 3D models of the area for forensics and future decisions.
globalist goal of freeing river flow? What the hell does that even mean? Wildlife is nature. Nature is Wildlife...how do you return one to the other???? What becomes a possibility? What sophisticated and well funded group?? Wendy...are you wearing a tin foil hat? Cause you sure sound like the usual suspect.
+Wendy Davis I believe we are on the same page. Such obvious misappropriation of funds can lead one to think this was intentional. These people are far from ignorant and faced the erosion of that spillway long before it collapsed. Anyone could see that the integrity of that spillway was jeopardized. Makes you wonder...
The difference, Diane, is this video is full of facts and numbers; tangible news about the situation at Oroville dam that leaves viewers with nothing more than the facts and numbers. You and Wendy...you just wonder...and extrapolate wild notions of conspiracy with nothing more to back your claims than verses conjuring the fear of "they". Bleah.
Great coverage again from Inglewood, California. I know this is serious business, but this is quite interesting. U guys be careful keep up the good coverage and information.
Great report I am on the edge of my seat for your next report. You give the best and most comprehensive prospective of this situation. Thank you for your efforts to information..
If your 777 is over 2 years old , about a 90% chance I machined some of your major wing spars . You fly on my second most favorite Boeing plane I made parts for , 747 my favorite . Been retired a little over 2 years . Once again , thanks for your great videos . If teachers could structure their classes as well as you do your videos , children would learn much more . I often learn interesting things and historical tidbits watching your fine videos . Thanks again !
thank you for your great videos. Really clear information on a complex situation. I'm finding it compelling viewing and I like the little glimpses you give us of your day job. A big fan from London, UK.
Great video series, as a civil engineer in Australia (often working on dam design) this whole incident has been very interesting. I check RUclips everyday for your next update! Thanks. Having said that, I'm not sure you are correct about the Sayano-Shushenskaya disaster. I believe that was caused by an out of balance turbine (and a bunch of other issues - mostly stupidity) that led to it failing catastrophically.
Great reporting. Thank you for being a top notch citizen journalist. I feel a bit bad for laughing, but I did laugh out loud at your comment: "Here's your newest waterfall feature in Northern California: The Oroville Main Spillway!" Love the dry humor. :)
Another good, well-ranging video; great picks, great music, great commentary, great balance and objectivity. Thanks for showing the range of approach they've taken to stabilise the remaining upstream spillway, with the rock bolting, grouting and spraycrete on the undercut - it's getting a fairly challenging integrity check right now.
Juan - great report, as usual. This was a very detailed breakdown of several aspects of this historic event. Many thanks for your professional, insightful analysis. Your brief side comments are priceless! Keep it up.
Than-you so much for this update, you always hit the nail on the head! The more that you report on this the greater appreciation I have of how much damage has been done, and how much effort and money it will take to put it right again. As usual great reporting, loved the music!
Excellent footage and reporting of this amazing incident the whole world seems to be watching. Looking forward to the next updates on this mighty Oroville Dam.
These have been so informative. I'm amazed that you are able to keep track of all of it while working your 'day job'. I vote for a beginning to end documentary!
Hands down the best reporting and information on this event. Hopefully I am not the only one proud of our engineers and crew guys who always put in a monumental effort to solve problems like Oroville.
Juan, keep up the good work I enjoy watching your videos Real professional videos, very informative, when I get home everyday I check my iPad to see if I have and updates from you to watch. Also catching up on all your other videos as well.
Thank you again for a great video. Really appreciate your explanations of names and terms and added animation like the rock bolts. I am learning so much with each video. You'll have to put them all together as a documentary in the end. Also, looking forward to checking out the exciting motorcycle police chase videos you mentioned. They will be fun to watch....till you're back.
We the viewer do not grasp the size of the spillway until we see shots of men working in and around it. Yet even then, the length from the gates to the river below must also be enormous. Again, what is now called the plunge pool. its only when seeing people working in it that the size starts to become clear. I suspect, if building such a thing as this spillway was difficult back in the 60s, repairing one that has sustained as much damage as that one has, and doing it so we know it wont again fail, it will be the engineering challenge of a lifetime. The people who pull it off should get an award.
The amazing size and water volume hit me when I saw the amount of water flowing off the bottom of the original spillway. That's all water that splashed up and through the first plunge pool. I knew it was a big project, but that really stood out today. Thanks, Juan.
Juan, I have been watching all of your series on the Oroville dam. You have been doing an outstanding job of informing us of the situation there. You have provided very well planned and presented informational videos. The best part is you are a 777 pilot. I was a wide body engineer for 33 years at Everett, 777 was my favorite. Thanks for all that you have done to keep me informed with real data and visuals. Oh! we engineers love data.
Thank you so much for keeping us updated on this situation. We have followed you from the beginning and value your intelligent and informative approach. The Brazilian footage and music were really a plus! Thanks again!
Great job Juan Brown, to the point without any fear porn . This info is keeping us a little more comfortable . Coming to you from point evacuation 1A, Oroville , Ca . Keep up the good work.......
THANKS Joao! I lived in Brazil as a kid. My parents are American. Obrigada pelo informacao. You are doing a great job as a smart investigative reporter all these weeks.
Thanks again Juan. Really great work! In terms of reconstruction, if they have the engineering and survey work completed it could progress rapidly with multiple drilling crews. As long as the money is there it's doable.
Maestro blancolirio, Thanks again for all the diggin'. Your presentations = gold. Diggin' your music, too. Brazilian, Cuban, Bluegrass... jam on, Cap'n Browne.
This is the best reporting on anything I have ever seen. Thanks. PS: The obvious solution is small prefab expandable steel sections built by any or several shipyards. It's transportable, installable in small sections as weather permits, and can be back filled to be permanent. I doubt Civil Engineers think this way though.
Thank you for your hard work. This is the most up to date, clearest, and useful source of NEWS on the Oroville Dam situation. You put the "news" media to shame. Keep up the great work. I'm a big fan.

Even the tyranny of distance can't keep a dedicated man down. Well done Juan, excellent report and thanks again.
Great work - all the way from Brasil' !!!
We can almost start sleeping better at night around here.. :)
Thank you so much Senor Browne !!

yerbigbean Ditto your first sentence. We live in South Africa, but I feel for the people who live in the area of potential and real devastation.

Awesome again this week, thanks so much! Spent my youthful summers in Oroville & watched the dam being built. Your vids have the best info!
big thumbs up. I get such a sense of satisfaction and understanding on the Orville project after watching your videos. many thanks.

Why would anyone actually thumb down this video? Thanks for all your great reporting!
I imagine it is his competition. You know...the ones with the tin foil hats who were telling everyone to get out "while you still can"
2dogarage The same people who are putting out videos with false information about the Oroville situation.

I'm around 13 miles from the dam getting the best news from Brasil. That's just a hoot. Thanks so much it's very appreciated.
Thank you for reporting facts and for educating folks.
All too often, some reporting on the Oroville Spillway are fear mongering.
I have been watching your updates since early Feb....awesome job
Great coverage again from Inglewood, California. I know this is serious business, but this is quite interesting. U guys be careful keep up the good coverage and information.
Thanks Juan, watching in Doral,Florida.
Magnificent update, inspiring and informative work for the community, superb presentations.
thx juan for all the clarity & knowledge, and appreciate your taking the time to put all this together
Great report I am on the edge of my seat for your next report. You give the best and most comprehensive prospective of this situation. Thank you for your efforts to information..

juan...thanks for the info on rock bolts...thank you for your coverage on aspects of spillway repair and power house ops. Safe travels in the air.
As usual another great report. Thank you Juan.
thank you for your great videos. Really clear information on a complex situation. I'm finding it compelling viewing and I like the little glimpses you give us of your day job. A big fan from London, UK.
Thanks for all your work. You do a great job of delivering the information.
WOW, amazing update --looking forward to the next one....viva Brazil Guantanamera!!!
Great coverage , well done to you from Australia. Look forward to more episodes keep up the good work!
Thanks for explaining the rock bolts so well!
Amazing effort goes into your productions .. much appreciated
Keep it up.
Juan - This is your best and most informative video to date. Keep up the great updates and fly safe.
I really appreciate your updates and interest in the dam. Thank You.
Great work! Nice sunrise. Lots of good times down in GRU on the 76 back in the day.

Excellent (as usual)! Enjoyed the music! Nice touch!
Thank- you for your updates. Praying for everyone there!
Thanks again Juan.
Very intelligent and well thought out upload. Thanks for making it simple for all of us to understand, from Chico.
Very good job with your presentation and been a drone pilot myself it looks like they got some pretty good footage.
Keep up the good updates.
Thank you for your time Juan. Really appreciate your work. Oh, and now a motorcycle is in my future.

THANKS Joao! I lived in Brazil as a kid. My parents are American. Obrigada pelo informacao. You are doing a great job as a smart investigative reporter all these weeks.
Great reporting and service to your community!
Thanks again Juan. Really great work! In terms of reconstruction, if they have the engineering and survey work completed it could progress rapidly with multiple drilling crews. As long as the money is there it's doable.
It is Juan's Latin Jazz Channel..!! Great intro and another brilliant video..! it is warm and sunny here in Palm Beach Florida

Thanks for all the great videos and updates. And thank you for pronouncing turbine correctly. Keep them coming!
