Thanks Jay. This was one of my first activation videos. Still making some improvements (such as a recorder to cut out the background noise in the audio from things like airplanes). 73 Pat
Walnut Woods is probably my least favorite park in or around the DSM Metro the QRN is horrible around there. I blame the air port for that. Watching your videos is gonna get me wanting to learn CW I have a feeling.
This is before I had a digital recording device connected directly to the rig. Yes - the airport made this activation really tough. I'm not too eager to go back to that park without some good headphones.
@@patrundall6092 The only time I do Walnut Woods is when I'm doing a radar run and its on the way or not too far out of the way between Big Creek and one of the other parks. I don't know if you have gone out to Neal Smith yet, but that noise floor is probably the best in our area.
@@K0BJJ Noise floor at K-4658 was probably the lowest I've seen, but really I haven't had any parks that were too noisy in central Iowa. At least that I couldn't manage with a good receiver. I haven't been to Neal Smith yet, but my long term goal is to activate every park in Iowa. My wife and I took a trip to NE Iowa (Decorah) to hit a few parks earlier this summer to get things kicked off and had a great time. Since starting POTA in May, I've activated 12 Iowa parks (and 8 states). Fun stuff. Thanks again Ben!
@@n0hr Not a problem. Yeah ive done mainly every park minus a few within hour of Newton. Also Pikes Peak State Park in Forest City is a SOTA also. I made a 40mile HT contact form there on 2m.
Congrats on your activation. Nice channel om.
