Parks on the air - US-11378 Rock Creek Island State Preserve in Eastern Iowa.
This Parks on the Air ham radio expedition required fording the Cedar River on a beautiful August day. Flood waters had receded and the activation was a lot of fun.
Greg, NØGES, was crazy enough to activate US-11378 a few weeks earlier by swimming! I appreciate Greg's sense of adventure, but don't try this yourself! Greg was a great help in scouting the location and pointing me to the satellite images. We wanted to be fairly certain that the water level was much lower prior to making the 2+ hour drive.
Band conditions were fairly good.
