  • Welcome to the introduction of my $20,000 Red tail Giant Giant Gourami breeding project that has been many years in the making. I'm only a few months away from hopefully what will be a massive breakthrough but for now I thought id share with you all the progress that has been made.
    I am also extremely proud to have captured possible the very first footage of Red Tail Giant Gouramis Breeding in a glass aquarium in captivity.
    I have started to build a 4,500L plywood aquarium in order to isolated my breeding pair, but unfortunately there will be some delays due to so many others things happening.
    I've had nearly 30 stingray pups born in the last 3 months and I will also be preparing for my first time participating as a exhibitor at The Pet Show in Melbourne on the 25th and 26th of March.
    Anyone looking to come to the expo can purchase their tickets from the link below. Would love for you all to come see my collection.

    I am in the US and bought 4 red tailed giant gouramis at about 3 inches and just over three years ago. I love them and they are 12 - 14 inches now in a 500 gallon aquarium with new world cichlids. I am hoping they are done growing so I do not have to thin them out. Do you think mine are nearing their final adult size? So glad I found your channel, my channel is Halfman Halfcichlid.

    • @ObsidianExotics
      @ObsidianExotics  Год назад +1

      Thats awesome mate!
      They usually reach their Max size around 4-5 years
      Even though they dont get as big as the standard giant gouramis, given the right conditions, you can expect them to get about 18-20 inches.

    1 piece of advice you said you aren't going to explain how you built the tank because loads of people already have. People who enjoy your channel want your advice not someone else's. Vlog everything mate it will massively help your channel

    Whats the dimensions on the plywood tank?
    And also, is the climate to cold in Australia to keep them outdoors at all? Like in a big pond or something?

    • @ObsidianExotics
      @ObsidianExotics  Год назад +1

      The plywood tank is 8ft x 5ft x 4ft. In far North Australia it would be perfectly warm enough for them to be kept outdoors. But in Melbourne,Victoria where I am based, our temperatures are far too inconsistent to keep them outside and especially during winter our temperatures drop well below safe limits for tropical fish.

    There’s is the perfect space in my house for an 8x4x4ft tank. Sadly my parents aren’t on board with putting a huge tank in and me keeping a stingray pair, some peacock bass an arowana ect. Mom hates anything big (I had Oscar’s in my last big tank and she hated them when they got big) . Dad doesn’t care he just wouldn’t want the space to be “wasted” on a big tank
