There is no longest Dutch word: we can just keep slapping other words at the end. For example, a factory that makes toffees is a toffeefabriek. The manager of that factory would be the toffeefabrieksmanager. He sits off course on his toffeefabrieksmanagerstoel. That chair has a velvet sitting area: the toffeefabrieksmanagerstoelfluweel. And off course, that velvet is made in another factory. The toffeefabrieksmanagerstoelfluweelfabriek. Which has a roof off course: the toffeefabrieksmanagerstoelfluweelfabrieksdak. And, a person is needed to put that roof there, the toffeefabrieksmanagerstoelfluweelfabrieksdaklegger. Who wears pants. toffeefabrieksmanagerstoelfluweelfabrieksdakleggersbroek. We can go on for hours like this if we want, lol.

I am from the netherlands. It is true that in the dutch language words that enhancing each other are written as one word.
    So for example:
Christmas tree in dutch is written as kerstboom and is therefore actualy one unique word. Where kerst = christmas and boom = tree. In this example christmas enhances the word tree by giving the word tree a more spesific meaning.
Fun fact: Due to more and more english terms used in combination with dutch it is a common mistake to write words like kerstboom as two seperate words. This is called "The english disease".

Hema stands for "Hollandse Eenheidsprijzen Maatschappij Amsterdam" Translated: Dutch Uniform Prices Company Amsterdam. It was the first country wide retailer that had the same prices for the same articles everywhere in the Netherlands. And on the Euro coins. The front end is uniform all over the Eurozone. The back end is free for any country coining the coins. Of course the amount that is allowed to coin is prescribed by the European Central Bank in Frankfurt, Germany. Fun fact: The Dutch Euro coins have "God be with us" on the side. The Dutch are the only ones to put something on the side. Ironically, we are not really religious at all. But it is the same text as was on the side of the Guilder. It caused some upheaval, but it was determined to be a "gray area" and thus allowed. Fun fact number 2. The Germans use the same phrase, but not on their money but on the soldier's belt buckle. Two peoples, two preferences....

So Euro coins are different per country, with their own head of state (or whatever they want really), but regardless of what is on the coin, it is accepted all across Europe.
For the banknotes, they are the same across Europe, figuring fictional bridges, because they didn't one to favor one country or the other...

Okay here is food background information:
First of the chocolate letter, S stands for Sint, which means saint. The chocolate used for that is usually low-mid tier quality, but for the price its more than its value.
Second is Speculaasbrokken. Which roughly translates to Speculaas chunks. Speculaas being the cinnamon flavor we dutch use a lot during colder times.
third: You had a Gevulde koek met Amandel. Which is filled cookie with almond spices. Including amandel shaves on top. Another winter food.
4th Kruidnoten, They are tiny cinnamon cookies. They are already made nowadays 3-4 months ahead in stores. But usually they were made long ago for the kids and visiting of the saint. As for the evenings when kids sang a song they be stuffed their shoes in nights by parents with cookies and such.
The rest you can manage to figure out yourself.

Kleine sidenote though: speculaas is meer dan alleen kaneel, het is een mix van kruiden, zoals kaneel, kardemom, peper, nootmuskaat, kruidnagel etc wat het de specifieke smaak geeft. Verder goede samenvatting:)

That is funny, Amy Rose pronounced Lekkernij (the singular of lekkernijen) almost correctly. The ij combination is used as one letter in Dutch and kind of replaces the y. the sound is that of the i in knife. 5 Sinterklaas Lekkernijen = 5 Santa Claus (themed) treats
The Chocolate S: During the Sinterklaas time, kids will put there shoe in front of the fireplace filled with a carrot and some hay. The carrot and hay are for Amerigo which is the name of the horse of Sinterklaas. The traditional gift for the kids will be a chocolate letter, of course many adults will give eachother a letter as well. When for some reason names aren't known or a particular letter is sold out, the S will be the generic one given (and yes, S for Sint)
Gevulde Speculaas: Filled Speculaas. S[eculaas is a cookie type that comes in 3 varieties. Normal speculaas which you might know as "windmill cookies" a brittle, biscuit type cookie often in the shape of a windmill, the "Speculaas brokken" (Chunky Speculaas, the big one you retrieved from the box last) , similar to the windmill cookie but much thicker and harder and tis filled version which is more cake like and is filled with almond paste between the layers of cookie. just to be clear. Speculaas and Speculoos are not the same thing. We do not have ginger snaps
Chocolate Money: the person on the coin is King Willem Alexander. Every EU country will have their own design on one side but that is just a visual, they are valid in any country that accepts the Euro. Chocolate money is not really a Sinterklaas thing but you will see it more often during that time than in other times of the year. HEMA is a Dutch store chain, most famous for their "rookworst" (smoked sausage) but they sell all sorts of things, from clothing to food to kitchen ware and everything in between. The chocolate in these things tend to be lower quaality chocolate (like say.. herseys :P )
Kruidnoten and Pepernoten: (Spice nuts and peppernuts) Officially they are two seperate things but in general people will call them all Pepernoten. Kruidnoten as you have their are basically little blobs of Speculaas cookie, Pepper nuts are bigger, irregular shaped and are made with honey and anis as flavourings. the melkchocoladekruidnootjes simply is them being coated in mik chocolate. To each their own but Herseys is NOT beter. BLASPHEMY. As for "traditionally eaten with Christmas time... no.. we might have some left from Sinterklaas but that is all.
The burlap sack: Traditionally the story goes that Sinterklaas comes to the Netherlands from Spain with his steam ship. He comes with his helper, the controversial Black Pete (please fellow Dutchies... no discussion here, this is an explenation, nothing more) and the story goes that good children will get presents and candy but the bad kids will be put in the sack and brought back to Sspain as punishment (why being brought to a nce mediteranian country is punishment beats me)
the contents of your bag are just generic candies tha have nothing to do with Sinterklaas
It is impossible to translate Lekker(nij) into English. Lekker is a Dutch word that basically means tasty (lekkernij stands therefor for tasty treat) but it is used in many ways, everything can be lekker. Food can be lekker (tasty), athe weather can be lekker (nice), a girl can be lekker (hot) etc,

It is true that Americans are used to extra sugar in their food and products while here in Europe we have a range of variety for chocolate and other food products. I really hope you guys can come visit Europe, or at least the Netherlands, soon so that you can taste more varied products. We're serious about the amount of unhealthy sugar here in Europe. Even our fries are different than yours (we don't add stuff to make it look more golden).

Yes, we have very long 'compound nouns' as they are called, try this one: 'arbeidsongeschiktheidsverzekeringsmaatschappijmedewerker', and this can be made even longer but then it becomes unpractical. There's no limit on them. Like this it's really used. It's not regional by the way, it's an inherent feature of the Dutch language. I am from the Netherlands.
(HEMA is the name of the shops where you can buy stuff like this and much more. It has its own brand).
Euro's are used in the whole of Europe, they are basically the same but the backside is different for each country. They can be used in every European country though.
The 'ui' in 'kruidnoten' is a difficult sound for English speakers to pronounce. And you didn't have really salty drop, these were very sweet ones! Dutch licorice can be very salty, you should try the brand Venco!
    Nice video!

Pepernoten and kruidnoten are different. You had kruidnoten, in the bag and on the chocolate S. Pepernoten are soft, bread like, and spicy with kinda the same taste as pepernoten. pepernoten are sort of sinterklaas candy form the old days. The Kruidnoten are also called pepernoten cuz people tend to get confused on which is which.
We don't put Pepernoten in the shoes, you can buy them in the store in a bag. Children don't see them as a typical Sinterklaas treat cuz it's rare to get pepernoten in your shoe. The Kruidnoten are used for throwing by black pete and to put in shoes.

I think you have coins from at least two different countries in your bag. In the beginning when the euro was introduced you would have mainly coins from your own country in your wallet, but when time goes by you would get more and more foreign coins, especially from the larger countries like germany and france. We like it so much that we eat it the whole year through in the shape of gevulde koeken. 'Gevuld' means 'Filled'. We don't even need to specify with which the cookie is filled. If it's filled it's filled with SPIJS!
This also teaches you that 'ij' is pronounced as 'i' and doesn't involve making the 'itch' sound as you americans like to do ;)

You could also try a delcious powder, called "Zwart-Wit" (Black-White). They come in two variants: Sweet and Salty. Traditionally you consume that by wetting your finger and stick it into the "Zwart Wit" and lick it off your finger.

Funfact: The idea of giving letters and sweets to children comes from the belief that letters make them smarter, while sugar makes kids sweeter.
The snacks you got are pretty basic for Sinterklaas, except for the chocolate letter. That's a fancier one.
We also have other sweets that we give children, like the replacement for the banned chocolate cigarettes, sugary foam candy, and one that's not every child's favourite: tangerines (the fruit, not a candy.)
Hema is a chain store that almost exclusively sells its own brand of products, and it's known for being affordable and having reasonable quality products.
So the snacks aren't the best there is, but they're decent.
If you ever come visit the Netherlands, you won't be able to miss the store itself, because it's in every city, and in many town across the country.

Hey! Love your videos. When you do get to visit the Netherlands would love to show you around some.
Talking about sticking words together, I couldn't let you miss the wonderful "angstschreeuw". Some friends of mine once figured that this must be the most insane word in the world for having 9 consonants vs 4 vowels, 8 of which are in a row. It is the compound word of "angst" meaning fear in Dutch as well as German and "schreeuw" meaning a cry, so 'cry of fear'.
Funny fact about the cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, pepper, cloves and countless other spices that typical dutch treats are crammed full off. As you figured out yourself, it has been caused by the Dutch being the world's major transporter of spices in the Golden Age. Hauling so much of the stuff around led to the logical addition of them to many recipes.
