    Thank you for this!! This is the "type" of covering I want to build for an outdoor bar (without the flooring) to protect it from the rain in Florida (I already have the hurricane ties). You walked me through it so I now have a clear idea of how I want to go. Thanks for sharing!!

    Fantastic build, mate! I think this will happen in MY backyard! Couple of questions:
    1) would you use 4x4's for the vertical corner and middle posts (ie/ all the way up to roof height)?
    2) what ratio did you dilute your stain?
    Thanks again for a terrific video - really helpful!

    • @thatDIYlife
      @thatDIYlife  2 года назад +6

      Yeah 4x4s for the posts would make more sense. They were extra spendy when I made this so I went the more cost effective route.

    • @aoe2geek
      @aoe2geek Год назад +2

      Eh to be fair they were kind of necessary to attach the vertical pieces to the top and bottom. Although, personally I would’ve just paid a bit more for 4x4 all the way to the top

      I’d probably just use a framing nailer to be honest. It’s still standing fine years later so I wouldn’t over complicate it

  • @freshofbreathair1476
    @freshofbreathair1476 6 месяцев назад

    I recommend much bigger roof overhangs or you’ll need to hang tarps around it. Also the gaps between the slats are way too big. Will make stacking a pain in the ass.

    • @thatDIYlife
      @thatDIYlife  6 месяцев назад

      I’ve thought about that and I get what you’re saying. I’ve been using it for two years and it’s been fine. We don’t get sideways rain here or anything

    GReat video and great build MMB!
    I just got one thought to share, since the roof is angled. Will you not face problems with wet firewood when it rains angled inwards the front of the shed? Since the roof i higher there, there´ll be a greater risk of rain hitting the mid-low firewood at the front of the shed.

    • @thatDIYlife
      @thatDIYlife  Год назад

      You’re right the rain does hit wood where you’re saying but to be honest it’s never affected how fast the wood seasons. If I would do it over I would extend the roof another foot in front. This was my first time building anything outdoors so it was a learning experience 🙂 good question though

  • @sage4947

    Maybe Im overthinking. Was thinking 2x6 would be more appropriate for the weight on the flooring. Also curious about the pocket screws for the cross supports on the floor framing. I was thinking of running long ways then the decking on the floor perpendicular. This design you got here gonna hold up over time with the weight? No regrets?

    • @thatDIYlife

    How come you used nails but screws in some places? Any reason specifically or just kind of what you had on hand ?

  • @kurtiskelly3829
    @kurtiskelly3829 8 месяцев назад

    What’s the reason for cutting the 4x4 blocks and building the base around those vs. using 4x4s that stretch to the required height and then nailing 2x4s to that?

    • @thatDIYlife
      @thatDIYlife  8 месяцев назад +2

      I think it would be harder to level the 4x4s on the concrete blocks since they’re not flat on the inside. It was cheaper too

    experienced builders stagger the nails & screws in order to not be in the straight line of the wood grain, so as to avoid the wood splitting along the grain due to multiple screws in the same line. have the nail pattern be tilted, not a perfect square. see.
