    Expelled from school, Percy Jackson unravels who he is, confronting a world of gods and monsters.
    Demigod Percy Jackson leads a quest across America to prevent a war among the Olympian gods.
    Percy Jackson and the Olympians is an American fantasy television series created by Rick Riordan and Jonathan E. Steinberg for Disney+, based on the book series of the same name by Riordan.[1] Walker Scobell stars as Percy Jackson, alongside Leah Sava Jeffries and Aryan Simhadri.
    Development on the series began by May 2020, following a pitch by Riordan to Disney Branded Television. Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz were announced as showrunners in July 2021, with James Bobin hired to direct the first episode in October. Scobell was cast in the lead role in January 2022, with Jeffries and Simhadri joining the cast in May. By September, Anders Engström and Jet Wilkinson were also set to direct multiple episodes of the series. Filming began in June 2022 in Vancouver, British Columbia, and concluded in February 2023, with additional cast members revealed throughout 2022 and 2023.
    Percy Jackson and the Olympians premiered on December 19, 2023, on Disney+, with the first season consisting of eight episodes. The series received positive reviews from critics, who largely praised its faithfulness to the source material, the worldbuilding and the performances of the cast, with many deeming it better than the 2010-2013 film series.
    Walker Scobell as Perseus "Percy" Jackson, a young demigod and son of Poseidon[3]
    Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase, a daughter of Athena who has been training at Camp Half-Blood for five years[4]
    Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood, Percy's best friend and a satyr disguised through magic as a 12-year-old boy[4]

    I'm such a big percy jackson fan and was so worried but this adaptation so far is Perfect to me. They've changed a lot from the books but all of it *works*. And some stuff always needs to be changed because book versus screen is so different. This show FEELS like percy jackson, i love it so much already

    New to the channel but it's nice to find another fan who also discovered (and fell in love with) the books in adulthood lol. I'm honestly loving this show so much, the first episode had some minor pacing issues but overall it was a much better introduction to the characters/world than the movies imo. It _felt_ more like the first book which I think is just as important as plot accuracy. I also really loved that they took the time to properly establish the bond between Sally and Percy so that the audience could get emotionally attached to her and their relationship. Super important to sell the signficance of Percy's motivation for going on the quest later on
    Also, Walker's line delivery in the "You fell in love with God?!" scene took me out, I burst out laughing and had to rewind it and watch it again 😂

    I really love Percy & Sally's mother and son bond. It's the highlight of ep 1 for me. The show had some changes but I honestly still love it! Laughing when you said he's being gaslighted coz he was really just confused for the series and everyone always speaking in riddles XD
    Also Gabe is not gonna be happy when he sees his car

    Riptide looking like a used Bic pen is something I was able to get on board with. Different from the books, but actually pretty neat. Ugliani being less nasty and abusive makes sense, in a way; portraying abuse can be problematic, and it's not necessary -- so long as Percy doesn't send him Medusa's head the way he did in the film.

      I don't like this version of Gabe because it destroys main reason why we feel empathy for Sally Jackson. In books Gabe was aggressive abuser, in this show he's just a loser and power dynamic is shifted; Sally is stronger here. She's just tired of Gabe, not scared.

  • @DiscipleDave83
    @DiscipleDave83 7 месяцев назад +46

    There were still a lot of differences from the book. As someone already mentioned, Gabe is way too nice, and Percy knows too much information before arriving at Camp Half-blood. Sally brought Percy to the cabin in order to tell him the truth about his father, but Grover shows up before she can get it out. The ordinary ballpoint pen, though, is book accurate. I'm not complaining about the differences. This is still better than the movie.

    • @TCG237
      @TCG237 7 месяцев назад +26

      The thing is the thing the most important part that wasn't different was the tone and wonder of those books, which was the main thing the movie failed at, it recaptures all that, the changes made are merely a translation because some things make more sense in book vs film, the changes are alla lso from Rick

      Yeah, the movie did really drive home Gabe is a real scumbag, even to the effect he's kinda ugly and out of shape. This Gabe could take a shower and be a decent looking guy, and is just more a jerk instead of outright creep abuser.

      In my high school the girls were the biggest bullies by far so I thought it was realistic. They didn't stop with just words and would beat people up, even getting together in groups to to beat up boys. Maybe it was something in the water making them agressive 😂

    I've been so excited for this adaptation, but after the first episode I felt a little disappointed. It's much, much better than those disrespectful movies, but I'm not sure about the acting and the changes they decided to incorporate that make no sense to me (i.e. Sally and Gabe relationship dynamic).
    The second episode was fun though, and I hope the rest of the series will be just as good.

    • @JallerS
      @JallerS 7 месяцев назад

      Me too; I really don't like what they did in first episode. They cut about half of pretty important scenes and character's introduction. Gabe is ruined, he shouldn't be a loser, he should be abuser, that's main reason that we feel empathy for Sally Jackson, and understand why she stayed with Gabe. Pilot of this series is one of the worst pilot episodes for the series I have ever seen in my life.
      Second episode was ok; I like fight scenes, but rest is... Tolerable. Annabeth is not working for me; atleast now.

  • @JallerS
    @JallerS 7 месяцев назад

    Well, I disagree.
    This was one of the worst pilot episodes for the show I have ever seen in my life.
    I'm a huge fan of the series, I listened first book about 50-60 times in my teen's years and read all series about 3-4 times, and I think they did poor job by showing a viewer what's this story really about.
    1. 30 minutes. 30 minutes for a pilot episode. Really? Especially when main source for this episode has about 60 pages full of important scens, information and character introduction. Pilot episode should be longer, and I mean, a lot longer than 30 minutes. 45-50, or even 1 hour. Especially with so much content from the book.
    2. They cut so much content of characters introduction that I can barely recognise them. I mean, I see them and I know who they are, but I don't really see those characters from books:
    Grover - I was hyped for him, because it is one of my favourite characters in the series. But I really don't like how they portrait him. Grover should be more scared, spitting jokes and overall he should have big mouth; in book he's goofy, funny and a little bit clumsy. In the show there are almost no scenes that show that.
    Sally Jackson - She's just not working in this scenario for me. In books Sally was mentally strong woman who was forced to live with abuser to protect Percy from monsters that could sniff his halfblood scent. She was scared of Gabe, obidient to him and that is why readers got empathy for her. In show she looks like she's tired of Gabe, not even bothering about him, telling him what she's gonna do with his car. She shows almost no real emotions, and when she shows them it looks really weird and forced. She's not even scared of minotaur. And I'm not saying she's not brave. Sally is a brave woman, but still she is a normal human who is forced to fight with monster that probably kills her. Poor work of writing, real point of this character just flew above heads of writers.
    Gabe - In books, Gabe was filthy, ugly, smelly, abusive and controlling poker addict. He was aggresive towards Sally and Percy. He was hitting her. She should be scared of him. In show he's just a loser, and power dynamic is switched; Sally is stronger here, not him. It really destroys a real purpose of this character and make viewers less compasioned for Sally.
    Percy - The one thing I can't stand from this character is lack of the emotions. In book Percy was shocked and scared about truth, but in the show he looks confused in 90% of time
    3. LACK OF JOKES OVERALL. The Olympians series is based in huge degree on comedy, and most scenes are pretty serious and... boring. Serious scenes definetly can be interesting but not in this episode.
    4. Weird action pacing - minotaur scene should be more terrifing, especially because it is one of the first monster encounters that Percy experiences. Mr Dodds scene too.
