It was the total package, it was the sum of him that made Tupac so unique. His poetry, his message, his depth, his unique atmosphere creation ability, his Martin Luther King-esque delivery, his emotions, his charisma, his aura, his handsomeness, his attitude, his biography, family background and also his demise. All those factors made Pac not only a legendary rapper, but also a legendary person period. I'm not the biggest Pac fan in the world, but sometimes when I think of him, I got this weird image of him in my mind, envisioning him in a past time in Africa: dude would've been a warrior-king like shakazulu or some sht with that aura and self confidence. Might sound corny but that's how it is.

I always found it interesting how Biggie and Tupac contrasted each other music wise. Tupac really spoke from the heart he had power in his words, and emotion you could just feel he was good lyrically too maybe not rhyming scheme wise though this could be because he really wanted to give out a message most of the time but he had other good areas technically. While Biggie IMO probably the best MC, bro was a real spitter his rhymes were smooth not forced he had some good emotional songs too, but maybe not as emotional as PAC in general though this could just be because he liked having more fun.

He was a published poet, trained in Shakesperian theaters, and studied jazz, he actually rapped from the bottom of his stomach to control his range like how Naz raps from the throat. He started as a poet first read a variety of books and needed only a pen and paper to make a hit of the century, Biggie had the technical rhyme schemes and flow and he also is still talked about, he practiced his flow by emulating a jazz musician and wrote stories off the dome and was a rapid freestyle, suicidal thoughts is just incredible and sad and he can jump through topics effortlessly and be entertaining. Pac’s strongest points in his emotional delivery, Shakesperian style ghetto dramas, and poetic lyrics to dig deep in the heart. They both have versatility but I believe Biggie was more better as the MC while Pac moved into acting and was a powerful poet, his music is like sending at a poetry slam and hearing him share his art.

They’re too selfish where Tupac was selfLESS and this is why a lotta people these days think hes whack: he rapped about real shit, not just “fuckin bitches” and “poppin percs”.

My thing is this, Pac had metaphors in his poems. The Rose That Grew From The Concrete is a prime example. Pac was an educator and teacher when it came to him rapping. He was socially aware and personally aware. Pac spoke from all facets of people. He told a broken man's story, thugs story, painful stories, heartfelt and sentimental stories. U name it. Pac was a leader who spoke for all that needed a message. The way he used his words on beats and made people gravitate towards is far better than the most lyrical rapper. Pac was lyrical. Listen to songs like If I Die 2Nite, All Out, First 2 Bomb, Scared Straight, Do For Love, u name it. Pac had a way of making u care about him and his life. I disagree when it was said that Pac wouldn't win against BIG in a rap battle. People forget that lyricism isn't just metaphors and punchlines. The substance is a huge part of that. And Pac had a lot of that. That could go against BIG. I luv Biggie too, don't get me wrong. But I'm just saying that this stuff gotta end wit people saying that Pac was not capable of spittin dope verses, when clearly he was. Listen to his verse on Got My Mind Made Up. Or Heartz of Men. Pac is one of my favorite rappers. He in my top 5. Biggie is in there as well like I said. I luv both rappers, honestly. That's my take on this contentious, ongoing, repetitive, perpetual thing that has been occurring for years. Some agree, some don't. It's whatever

Fax, thats why I dont really fw Eminem newer music. Its all style and no substance, he spitting his ass off and punchlines and wordplay galore but he saying a whole load of nothing, its just setups and punchlines. Pac verses had substance in them, and what made his verses even more palpable is the emotion u felt, when Pac was spitting u feel it in your gut. As you said, his lyrical ability is understated and lyricism is more than just rhymes and punchlines, its how u weave them together to craft a cohesive verse that gets something across to the listener and delivery is apart of that. If all the listener hearing is cool rhyme schemes but the verse is all over the place they got nothing to latch onto so they got no incentive to relisten to the track

People think that lyricism is all rhymes nowadays
But something I value above that, is the ability to convey emotions, not just through his verses, but throughout his entire musical career.
For example, Me against the world was Pac at his lowest point, both physically and mentally due to his court case/shooting.
And despite not being around when any of it happened, I feel as if I can relate to the suffering he channeled into the album, and I fully sympathize with him as he just wishes to make his mama feel appreciated, or when he is shedding tears over homies he's lost, all the while he keeps his metaphorical middle finger pointed at the police, the justice system, and even parts of his own community if he felt it was negatively impacting the youth.
All in all, Pac was as real as one can get, and saldy, many people overlook his contributions to making rap more than just rhymeschemes and flows, in my humble opinion at least.

PAC’s music didn’t just make an impact, there was a whole lot of intellect and lyricism behind every bar. He was a musical genius - the very embodiment of Hip-Hip and music as a whole… To say that he wouldn’t have made it in this era is an ignorant and dumb statement.

These people are legends because they were so advanced in skills for their time. They had it much harder to get big and get their skills advanced because they were like pioneers. And some saying is like: without competition you won’t evolve

Another plumb example would be like taking Thomas Edison and say: huh for todays standards he would be nothing special because a lot of people know how electricity works even though Edison made this “platform”

“I see no changes, wake up in the morning and I ask myself, is life worth living or should I blast myself?” Would people feel the same impact if he had said “I visualize the repetitious ad infinitum, rise at sunrise pondering my own existence, is it worth this curse ought I burst this sacred pouch, that holds the biologics capable of one’s own doubt?”
Sure it sounds cool, but it wouldn’t get the message across in the same way.

There's a HUGE difference between being a good lyricist and a good rapper. Pac may not have been a great lyricist but DAM was he a good rapper. Being a rapper means having a good flow, delivery, lyrics, message, storytelling ability, emotion, charisma and character, delivery, image, creativity, awareness, production and more. Pac had pretty much all those things in spades except for high level lyricism but even then he had some dam good lyrics in a fair few of his songs. There are some mad ass lyricists like Hopsin, Logic, Token etc who are great in their own right but imo aren't known as great rappers becuz they don't have all have the tools in the toolbox. Besides its not always about what you say (lyrical ability) and how fast you can say it but the message behind it that matters. People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care. And dam did Pac care, he spoke for the people on issues that needed to be spoken out and did so with all his might and ability. It's true, sometimes he can be very overrated when people say he was the best ever but when you look at it from every perspective you would be hard pressed to find anyone better imo.
