If you bypass a G70 because of the trunk, you don't get the point of a compact sport sedan. Especially the G70. Maybe try a mini van...
it is too small. bmw 3 series near same length and makes better use of dimensions. But, something to note about the G70, it has a spare tire. My TLX isn't a large car either, trunk is decent size though, but has no spare tire....I'd rather have a spare tire.
@@GoofieNewfie BMW doesn't have a spare or an oil dip stick. That's a hard pass.
@@GoofieNewfie Yeah, I'm thinking of purchasing a spare tire "kit" for my TLX. I've had to deal with flat and it was kinda unpleasant. But, I did get a V6 (and a larger trunk) for under $35K by going w/the TLX.
Or a comparable Kia Stinger GT1 or GT2?
@@xjinit You can get a spare in the 2019 330i as an option.
Hmm... So the wife says no to what was pretty much unanimously 2018 car of the year (G70), and she says no to what is sure to be in the running for 2019 car of the year (Telluride). But she says YES to the Corolla hybrid?!? Color me perplexed, my friend. Color me perplexed. 🤔
It comes in the color she loves. Check out the final product of the car buying experience. That's the one she saw and thought it looked her style.
So actually, Dave's problem isn't with the G70. It's with compact sport sedans in general. It's too small?! Then don't go shopping in this class! And there's no point buying a G80 now, as the all new model is coming in a couple of months and it will be FAR superior to the current model.
Is your wife Scotty Kilmer?
He/she will end up getting a 2000 Toyota Celica.
Be careful what you say my man, i just had keyboard Warriors attack me over my sarcastic joke on his wife's taste in cars lol! 😅 but i get your joke so thumbs up.
@@MrRedskins0021 No, it's definitely a 1994.
Scotty sucks
@@MrRedskins0021 😂😂
2:52 “you’re gone in 60 seconds in like 4 and a half seconds”
“Trunk is too small.” You don’t buy a g70 for its cargo capacity, you buy it for luxury and fun.
IT5 0V3R 9K exactly! I want cargo space, then I’d get an SUV.
Its not a sports car guys a little trunk makes it versatile
just get a cargo van if you want cargo space capacity
I guess we know who really wears the cargo shorts in Dave's house.
Another great quick review, glad you are spreading the word on Korean cars and how they have gotten way better in the past decade!
Indeed. Im very surprised to see this review as a korean.
G70 vs. G80 are in different classes. The G80 is a fairly large sedan that's very heavy. I love the size of the G70. Too many "compact" luxury sedans are encroaching on midsize luxury sedan sizes these days.
Since lack of trunk space has never bothered me I leased the first one my dealer ever delivered. It will be four months ago tomorrow. I love it. I have had 41 cars and this is my favorite. I leased for 3 years which includes the service and car replacement while in for service. I have test driven the G 80 and it is a great car, but I still prefer my G 70. I have the big motor and so far have no complaints what so ever.
41 cars!?
@@joshuas3897 Yep, I am an old fart!
How do you like it now? Still have it?
It looks amazing! and a great overall value against other competitors brand new... I honestly use to think genesis was a joke but damn they are steppping it up and it looks beautiful the more I look at it..... 🤔😶😱
I'm definitely going to consider purchasing a Genesis g70 certified pre-owned for that warranty in a couple of years!
I'm right there with you! I'll be finishing school next year so I'm going to wait until then.
That is one good looking vehicle.
I'm picking up a 2020 G70 Sport AWD next week for a commuter car and spirited back road driving, we have my wife's Explorer ST for family and road trips.
Would you buy a civic and then complain about the back seat space and trunk size? No. So why complain here?
April 06, 2019 I purchased the Genesis G70 3.3 T Elite
Paid under M.S.R.P.
Love this car. Sure glad I'm not a Brand Snob. How much money do I have left in my bank account you ask?😁😀😋☺😎
How much did you pay before taxes and fees?
@japanwatchconnection Facts! I own a 2012 Hyundai Genesis sedan i have about 86k miles in it and its only worth about $7k and thats in Excellent condition, meaning no scratches on the exterior or curb rash on the wheels. But still a nice car if you plan on keeping it long term. I paid like $30k for mine brand new but its a base model. My first Hyundai was an 05 Elantra GLS kept it till about 107k miles and only got like 2.5k for a trade in lol! Thats steep depreciation for Korean Cars.
What difference does it make what I paid for it. I'm Happy, Very Happy with my purchase.
I also currently own (purchased new) 2006 Hyundai Tucson, 2007 Hyundai Accent, and 2012 Hyundai Azera.
They are very reliable cars. Why would I care about depreciation?
Because the Korean vehicles are so reliable, I will get every penny that I paid for these vehicles out of their continuous years of reliability!
Stop being nosey !it's not polite to ask people what they pay for things.
@@genesisg7022 im interested so that ik a number to hardball with....got 10 month old baby and yah my genesis coupe isnt working out to much haha....looking at a 2015 Q50s and 2015 Genesis 3.8 sedan
@@joseluisruiz3789 I have a 2010 Hyundai Genesis coupe 2.0 T with 100k. It's only worth about $2k now ☹️
Excellent design and proportions, very distinctive.
I like lexus and Acura because of reliability. But this is probably more reliable than the European cars.
Currently the most reliable cars are coming from korea.
@@ddavis7279 I don't know about that. I'll stick to Toyota and their luxury brand lexus.
Believe it or not Hyundais Kia's Genesis are much more reliable than Lexus and Acura Genesis Hyundai Kia are the top of the line of luxury and high performance cars of all the Asian Automotive motive industry they are number one now
Lexus is a good bet but Honda/Acura have slipped from their previous standards. Been that way since about 2008.
I'd put Toyota and Hyundai equal in reliability but Hyundai's have better build quality, way better interiors, sexier designs, lower maintenance cost, better warranty, and better driving dynamics. While Toyota hasn't lost what makes them Toyota but the Koreans have jumped ahead in so many other areas so quickly, it's getting harder to justify ignoring them and buying a Toyota. Both my Elantra and Sonata are bulletproof just like any Toyota but way better looking and have nicer interiors.
Love the way you genuinely give your opinion. Keep it up.
None of it is his opinion, it's his wife's opinion through the guy
Your gone, 60 seconds in 4 1/2 seconds LMAO
he meant 60 miles hhhh
Imao too!
He mixed it up with the "Gone in 60 Seconds" movie. That's cool I get it.
"My wife says no...." yeesh...that's not a title for a sports sedan review. If this was a review of a Toyota Camry then sure.
Just bought one last night & so far I absolutely love it..

Wow I prolly have seen this on the road once since it came out... This is a very nice looking vehicle.. It's sad that people won't even give this car/Genesis brand a chance.
Stephen Hendricks oh wow I didn’t even know. I guess that explains why I don’t see any of these G70s on the road. I’m so used to seeing people bash Genesis in comments, and the brand just came out lol
there's been no Genesis fires.
This moves...handles well and its comfy. Also has touchscreen tech that will NOT leave fingerprints. No other vehicle especially luxury in class has that feature.
Good day !!
Wifey clearly has a brand loyalty problem. 😁😁
There’s one in this exact color in my neighborhood. I mistaken it for an Infiniti all the time. Looks like sport luxury in person. Rear has a wide track. Impressed
The interior and engine are basically the exact same as the Kia stinger. Stinger has huge trunk if you want one
Engine is the same. There may be a few shared items in the interior but they are not exactly the same.
If they would have paired the 3.3t with manual trans then I’d buy one. I don’t get why the bigger engine is always paired with the auto trans these days.
really, i don't care what your wife says.
Given the choice, I believe I would also opt for the G80, Dave... for the same reasons you stated.
Nice review! Not in the market though, I just bought a 2013 Lexus ES350 with only 30,009 miles. I’ll be keeping this for many years, especially with their high reliability!! Still enjoy your reviews
Nice how's the car?
Turbo lag with 2.0T is gone with a simple ecu tune and you get 315 hp and 320 ft lbs. With full bolt ons you can get over 350 hp. With the manual its a lot of fun.
The G80 is far less sporty than this car, but if you're looking for a more comfortable experience the G80 is a good way to go, although the new model is said to be unveiled later this year and it's going to far outclass the current model.
Nice review. I have the G80 with the 5.0L, I’m getting 22mpg and 28mpg highway
What year? I'm looking at these because of the v8 reliability and warranty
I bought a G70 MT because it's one of the last sport sedan that offers a manual transmission. The 2.0 is lackluster and the manual transmission is rubbery and not very precise. The 2.0 has a noticeable turbo lag. However, there is a fix to this. You can buy a JB4 that add 50HP and a BMS pedal tuner and it's a totally different car. Also, I believe the transmission is the same as the Genesis Coupe. So short throw shifters are already available. Put this with a Raceseng shift knob and you're good to go. You have a beast!
Gorgeous
I remember when the G80 started at 36000 cause it was under Hyundais name 🙄
these look sooo good
I wanna see this car in a wagon version
You say the cargo and rear seat is limited; it would be more valuable to explain why this felt limited while COMPARED to other vehicles in this segment. Interested buyers in this segment already expect mediocre fuel economy, small interior space and trunk. It's not enough to just say it's "lacking" without context or comparison. Just my two cents.
BMW 3 series coupe owner here ... and i'd get one like these (6 Cylinder Version) hands down over there 3 series previous version sedan, as a second car.
If there's a coupe version of the G70 ... then shut up and take my money!
People who complain about the small trunk for this car are the same types to complain about a four seater coupe not having functional back seats...
How does this compare to the Stinger? I know both cars drive on the same platform, but perform differently. I've been able to pull a little information on both and similarities and differences, but I would love for someone to do a true side-by-side comparison test.
Thank you for the video. Since you, drove the stinger gt/genesis g70 which one overall do you personal prefer? Thank you
This guy was absolutely a college cheerleader.
The Amazing Guyulnevrb 😂😂
Yeah... still lot of American think Sony is the best TV maker but most of us know its Samsung or LG.
Samsung's electronics division is worth more than electronics divisions of Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba, sharp, Mitsubishi combined.
This car is meant for growing families. And the Stinger is bigger and cheaper. And no ones pays MSRP.
What's the reason?
julius jones size matters!
Great video and nice calf muscles!
Lots of folks hating on it in the comments because its Korean is just sad cause its a nice vehicle...
If this is a compact sedan, does it compete with the lexus IS?
$52k? Definitely not worth buying new. I would wait a few years and wait for the price to drop about $20k. And trust me, it will depreciate fast. I would know, because I have a 2010 Hyundai Genesis coupe.
The brotherhood of the wolf My 2016 Genesis Ultimate was $52,000 and with 18,000 miles in 3 1/2 years its lost 55% of its value🤪🤣. Solid car horrid depreciation just like the stinger ...and with ⚡️gaining momentum , going to tank faster!
What is variable aluminium? Also, how do you get go 60 seconds in 4 seconds? I'm flexible. Just let me know.
Wow. $52 grand. Sad to think 10 years ago I got my Pontiac G8 GT with the identical 365 horsepower for $28K. And THAT car was worth it.
I love it it has a masculine look and it’s great in size if it’s just for yourself.
If it’s too small this car isn’t for you. The g80 is the car for you. This is for people who want a sporty luxury sedan.
Thank you 🙏🏻
"You're gone in 60 seconds in 4.5 seconds."
If you want this same car with the same engine(s), but decent rear-seat and trunk space, for the same money, get the KIA STINGER. Why did the narrator limit the alternatives to other more expensive Genesis models?
If G70 has a little more leg room in the back it is going to be sold a lot.
I love this car I just wish the screen was bigger
Thank you!
Not enough rear legroom and you need better access to the trunk? Get a Stinger and you're done. The only flaw on the Stinger is the brake rotor warping issue.
I say go ahead, make the rotors warp, then demand free replacements, because you're simply driving the car as it was MEANT to be driven!
As soon as there are affordable aftermarkets, I’m switching. I dint have time to burn a day at the dealership again. I just don’t want to spend 1200 for a pair of the high end stuff that’s out now.
Why buy a 3 series with a Hyundai badge honey?
@Harry Fishnuts Wrong badge, lol. My mom was like this when she was younger, it had to be Mercedes or Lexus. Funny thing happens in your 50's and beyond. You realise it makes no difference what other people think, but the impact on your retirement income does matter. For some reason people in their 20's and 30's get caught up in displays of status. I did too, and figure I've reduced my retirement portfolio by hundreds of thousands of dollars buying new Audis (3), Mercedes(4), Bmws (2) and lexus's (2). In the 80's and early 90's I bought a series of Mercedes S-Class, with little thought beyond my monthly budget and I used up almost all of my income every month, with the little I could save getting drawn down by the next down payment. I learned my lesson about depreciation and high maintenance costs the hardest and dumbest way possible. The last new car I bought was a Toyota 12 years ago and I still have it and I still own that 2nd lexus because it's still reliable and comfortable at 170k miles and 21 years of age. Now I'm 57, partially disabled and have 1/3 the retirement savings I need to maintain my lifestyle. At one time in my 20's (mid 80's) I had a $1300 car payment at 22% interest. My rent was $450 mo. My foolish car (and clothes, restaurants, etc. Got to have a Rolex) buying habit kept me from being able to buy my first house till I was 39. I hate to see young people making the same mistakes I did.
@Harry Fishnuts Nah. I was picking on his wife. Then saying how I use to think the same way and same with my mom. I'm sorry my comment got so long. :-)
They have enough room to bump up that HP in order to get the 0-60 down to low 4s high 3s easily. Or you could tune it.
This is nuts , G70 test and reviews are in the hundreds, you failed to mention the 4 cylinder turbo comes with 6 speed manual or an automatic, the 3.3 V-6 has the automatic only, it doesn't matter what you recommend stick with the car in this review the G80 is for another video
Gregory Shaffer Just relax Gregory.
I drive a G80 and the seats do not fold back, so it will be difficult to fit some larger items. I wonder if the g70 could be an upgrade for me in the future since despite being smaller it does have folding back seats.
Have you tested the Kia stinger yet ?
would also like to hear his opinion of the g70 vs the Stinger
This car looks good in every colour.
This is a good car to go shopping with or leave at the train station while you go off to work. Not going to get keyed or stoleni grew up driving German cars so I’m over the whole German car envy thing. Which is why I have a Volvo Cross Country and a Lincoln now. Have my eye on a Lexus or Acura next so I can say I drove everything.
What's a dynamic roof line? And how does it compare to a traditional roof line?
Be careful of depreciation. I purchased a 2018 g80 3.3T last year and put 1,200 miles on it and traded it after 2 months. I didnt like it and i lost $17,000.00 on trade in.
Why would you even trade it in at such a huge loss? Hyundai/kia/genesis have huge resale losses compared to almost every other brand. It's better to lease these than buy! Always lease a car with not so great resale value!!@
@@mituljariwala9821 it was a lease. I was stupid. That car was not for me.
Tom Boyle you are wrong. Kia and Genesis actually have some of the BEST resale values. I just checked and your G80 has barely lost any trade in value from when it was new.
Instead what actually happened is you committed to a lease and then essentially paid for the rest of the lease and then gave the car back to them. You could have simply sold the car to Carmax or Carvana and lost almost nothing on it.
Instead like you said you were “stupid” and paid for a car that you gave back to them.
Sorry that you lost that much money. However, don’t falsely say that those cars don’t hold value. That just isn’t true.
@@LearningFast genesis has poor resale period. I did not sale the car back to them. I traded for another car brand and dealer
@@LearningFast just off the residual value, you can tell that they have the worst resale value. look after 5-10 years. Most people keep there cars for at least 7 years now. A 2013 kia optima can be bought for $5k while the same year camry or accord is $10k. Get you facts straight before telling something that there wrong!!!!
Reliable, looks , and your money will go along way
this is one of those cars you dont see around to often but when you do you go f... i want one
Make a plug in version and I am buying it !
You can't say "the acceleration is great" and "there's a turbo lag". You gotta pick one.
When you buy that type of car, you don't care about cargo or back seat. If that's a problem, then don't buy a compact sport sedan.
how about comparing it against kia stinger?
Since, you drove the stinger gt/genesis g70 which one do you personal like better? Thank you
G80 is a completely different car. The G70 is focused on sport driving, g80 and g 90 on luxury.
How fun a car is to drive is far more important than being slightly more "luxury" IMO!
Your wife doesn't like the Genesis G70? You need a new wife...😝
This is a luxury compact performance vehicle.. theres absolutely no need for comparison between it and the g80 lol if you want trunk space just get the large sedan
When you've never skipped leg day 💪
I take some days off.
The car is badass. Love it
Have you seen the lease and finance rates on the thing? They're horrendous. It's the main reason you don't see too many on the road. They are nice cars, but they are jipping people.
I test drove the same fully loaded 3.3T, and loved it. My only complaint was that there’s no noise. I know it’s supposed to be somewhat of a luxury car. But they said it competes with the C43 AMG, which I would rather go for, or buy a CPO C63
the c43 will leave a much larger hole in your wallet though. Although I must say its hard to beat the merc interior. hopefully genesis does a refresh soon and improves interior.
Come on Dave, don't read those idiotic marketing brochures... It sounds like that's what you're doing for a good chunk of the video. I don't give a rip about what the marketing department calls the roofline.... I do care what you think.
My wife brought me this car
Smart wife!
I absolutely hate the fact that the back seat passenger can change the front passenger seat position. I'm sure it still functions even with someone sitting in that seat
Nathaniel Daniels This is the single dumbest thing I’ve ever seen someone hate about a car.
@@jefffawcett I bet. It certainly is the dumbest "feature" to have in a car. You also clearly don't have children. Have a good one!
@@Ndzzle there are many times when it is incredibly convenient to be able to move the seat forward from the back seat, my car has that same feature
It can be turned off to avoid any antics by back seat passengers.
Don't be a SIMP, just buy it!
If the 3.3t came in awd and 6 speed I'd be all over that!
I thought your wife already “FORCED” you to buy a red crewcab F150.
Are you in Spokane?
So your wife wears the pants in the family!
Bextar636 no.
Bruhhh your wife said no to this but yes to that weird looking accord u have???
Strange
Congrats on the IM.
I guess your brand snobby wife doesn't know this is a fraternal twin to the Kia Stinger. The Genesis version is more expensive, smaller in several dimensions, and has less cargo space since it lost the brilliant Stinger hatchback. It's only plus is the brushed aluminum in place of the Kia's black plastic trim.
Yet another comment by someone who doesn’t know what they’re talking about. Multiple auto magazines have done a head-to-head comparisons of the two, try reading
Adiós amiga LMAO
I would get the Kia stinger GT. I have seen it advertise in auto trader brand new for $32K.
