Eken H9r Plus Review - Great 4K video, but no Stabilisation! Why?

- Gearbest sent this camera for me to review. It is a native 4K camera capable of recording in 4K at 30fps. It has an Ambarella A12S75 chip and Panasonic 34112 sensor. The video quality is very good, but it has no image stabilisation. I think it is a good entry point for 4K video for the price.

Great review, everything looks good film quality and the microphone sounds great shame about the image stabilization but I suppose price has to be taken into account.

Hi Amur, it depends which gimbal you use. There are some gimbals designed specifically for action cameras and do not require a separate mount. I have two gimbals designed for mobile phones, I do not have one for action cameras. In the video I use my Zhiyun Smooth Q gimbal. This gimbal has a selfie mode which flips the phone camera around to point it at the user. An action camera can be placed into the gimbal, to will be pointing towards the user when mounted. When the selfie mode is selected it flips the action camera around to point away from the user. In this mode I can use the camera without an adapter if it is in the frame that comes with the equipment in the Eken box. You cannot see the screen though, but I have not found this to be an issue. You can buy adapters to allow you to mount action cameras on phone gimbals and with these the camera will point the right direction. I have a review in the Smooth Q should you wish to see what I am trying to explain. Sorry for such a long and technical reply. I hope this helps. :-)

The camera cannot be used as a webcam unfortunately. :-)

Hi Rohan, I am using a Zhiyun Smooth Q gimbal. As far as using a selfie stick is concerned, you may be able to steady the image somewhat as the camera is carried differently on a stick and is easier to control. It will not be the same as using a gimbal though. The video quality of this camera is very good. :-)

i dont mind the stabilisation as i bought a 10 bucks stabiliser and this eken h9r is only 35 bucks in my country..already added bought both of it off my cart
I just reviewed a gimbal and included a short clip of it with this camera. It is very good! :-)
Action cameras should have stabilization feature. I'll go with SJCam SJ6 Legend instead.
I agree. Remember that the SJ6 is not native 4K it is interpolated. The SJ6 is a very good camera though. :-)

Hello Mohamed. I have added a link in the video description for the Eken H6S. This camera has the Ambarella A12S75 chip and a Panasonic MN34112 sensor it also has image stabilisation at 4k . It will record at 4K 30fps, but image stabilisation reduces that to 4K 25fps. 25fps is fine for normal video. It also has a front screen which is useful.
I placed my H9R Plus under water for 15 minutes in the waterproof case and it was fine. This was only in the bathroom sink though, so no real depth of water.
The difference between the H9R Plus and the H9R is the frame rate for recording 4K - the H9R Plus records 4K at 30fps and the H9R at 25fps.

testing in fresh water like bathroom sink is not like pool or sea , so i think it will not be clear as water is not clear .

Hi Mohammed. First of all, I do not know which order the Eken cameras were released in. Their website does not show release dates for cameras.
After looking at the Gearbest website I would go for the H6S which is similar to the H9R Plus, but with image stabilisation. OR The Eken H5S Plus, which has a Sony image sensor with the Ambrella A12S75 chip, image stabilisation at 4k 30fps, a front screen and a touch screen.
Touch screens are much easier to use than menu buttons. The H5S Plus is the most expensive. I have added a link to this camera to the video description too. I hope this helps.
As for water, the image will only be as clear as the water and the cameras will work fine underwater. :-)
