As part of my 4 day hiking and northern lights searching tour in Iceland, we trekked for about 9 hours at Thorsmork located in the southern region of Iceland. Both awe-inspiringly beautiul and excitingly treacherous, this was a unique adventure I truly enjoyed.
We stayed at Basar Hut for 3 nights (location below) and hiked towards Fimmvörðuháls and back.

Hi. I was wondering if you know the two routes that your group did that day ? Is it possible that you went up a portion of Fimmvörðuháls and went down the canyon route? Thanks. I will be going next month.

To be honest I don't quite remember as it was part of a tour and it was several years ago but I do know we stayed at Basar Hut which if you map the location is next to Fimmvörðuháls. We started and ended at the hut and the path looks to be about the same when I look at some of the photos for Fimmvörðuháls.

    Beautiful!
Do you remember what was the name of the tour? Do you have a link by any chance?
    Thanks!

So I can't seem to find the exact tour anymore but I booked it through Arctic Adventures and while my video shows a 9 hour hike, the actual tour was part of a 4 day tour with different hikes. This was just the longest day.
Here's the tour I think it was closest to
      adventures.is/iceland/multiday-tours/laugavegur-trek/laugavegur-trekking-huts-4days/
If you're not looking for multi-day tour I still recommend Arctic Adventures, as they were excellent in giving us both an adventure and provided historical backgrounds of each place.

How long did it take to hike up the mountain with the beautiful views of the valley, where you had lunch?

The overall hike took about 9 hours up to the top and back to the camp site. We brought packed lunch we made at the camp and just picked a spot during the hike with an amazing view.
