I remember in my college class (as part of 4500hr apprenticeship) we had to build all the styles of arches as part of our training. We weren’t allowed to use any power tools. No saws or grinders with diamond blades. We had to cut all the Voussoirs with a bolster and hammer. That was tough to do. A few broke and had to redo them again. This was in 85 in Toronto Canada
That is such excellent work! It's so good that during the review at the end, you're expecting perfection, and you notice the tiniest of differences in the pointing!! This level of skill and attention to detail is so appreciated. Thanks, Stu!
I love watching what you do , it makes me more relax , its like watching a painting being drawn or sculpting , it gives the same sensation , it's art , we should all appreciate what we do to be better persons and live better lives .
I have never laid a brick in my life- i'm an engineer but i do other construction, yet i find this SO therapeutic and beautiful. Good work- you've got me wanting to try some beginner stuff on my own house.
Another great job from Stu. Stewart built our extension as a favour to us as our 1st builder had a accident and could not continue. His talent not only as a bricklayer but his artistic flare to picture something and then build it.A very talented guy. keep up the good work Stu
As a structural engineer spending all his time in the design office, I have great respect for the skilled 'hands-on' guys like yourself - especially ones who are clearly as skilled and dedicated as yourself. Your videos just happen to be great too.
Nice to see a fellow tradesman who loves pushing the boundaries of their work. We’re a dying breed, most if our apprentices spend every second they can sitting in the van on their phones, which is why I refuse to have one. A real pity for them as I have a lot to teach ☹️
Owen Johnson If you show a willing to work, there’ll be someone willing to teach. When I did my apprenticeship many years ago, I was fortunate enough to have some really good teachers, guys approaching retirement who had all the patience in the world to help me. Offer to work for nothing for a month or two if you have to, just to show people you are keen to learn, and if they can’t offer you work they may know someone who can. Good luck.
Sehr schöne arbeit ! Alleine das zusehen beruhigt ungemein. Wie professionel perfekt das ganze gemauert wird ist sensationel !!! Danke für den clip 👍♥️🌻
the cut middle brick actually works better. It makes the arch look like it's pushing upward through the brickwork, so gives the whole thing some lightness. Perfect
I'm really impressed tobseebtou showing errors made during the build. I subscribe to the notion that anyone attempting to get into the trade or just a weekend warrior needs to see a professional going through the normal motions. Very refreshing and great vid brother man. Mason from Alabama.
I could do framing, punchout, electrical, plumbing, etc but I could never get the hang of bricklaying. That just seems to take massive skills. And you sir have those skills. Looks great.
Hi Stu, Beautiful job, you should have a separate catalogue of projects like this, and give them price tag for potential customers, solid masonry benches, bird baths, brick planters, the list is endless. Your very creative.
The very same teqnique that the brickies used to build the glass furnaces at Pilkingtons. They used hardly any mortar inbetween the brick though due to expansion and better sealing. Pilks brickies had to tel contractors not to use so much mortar and on occasion had to take small sections down and rebuild it because of there being too muchbetween the bricks. I have a bench in my old shed made from the wooden lats used to build the crown, it all got skipped after a rebuild. Nice one Stu.

I Love it, i saw no problems at all and the music got me to watch it a 2nd time and still I think it perfect. Can you build a wishing well, would love to see that from start to finish.
Just read through all the comments looking for Rob Songers reply of him shaking his head saying you didn't watch my video did you 🤣😂 Great job stu you really are an influencer. Wish I had more time to do wee projects and learn new stuff 👍🏻
You are a great person who loves and enjoy his work. If everyone learn his work honesty be a good person. Please make a video of stone Arch, if possible thanks.
Another fantastic masterpiece Stu 👍 I can only imagine the amount of hard work they goes into these projects, not only the planning and building but also the editing too. Much respect Sir 👍
Great job, I was watching this video and my wife just caught me, now she's thinking of things for me to build after I been laying brick all day long, thanks lol
Nice to see even experienced trades making mistakes. My biggest bugbear was customers not allowing for that human element. But I ALWAYS sorted out my errors at no cost.
My little brick retaining wall, flower trough crumbled when I tapped it with the mower.....I'll be following all your brick designs.....but I'm scared! Never worked with bricks! Thanks, ahead of my attempts!
Hi Stu Can you please post details of the brick you are using in the video header/description? I really like the colour/texture of these! Also: any details of the mortar mix/sand colour as well well would be useful! The technique is wonderful to watch but these extra details are very valuable!
It's nice to see a DIY video where workmanship is done coherently.I see gooney goo goo videos with guys in their bare feet, hacking stuff and people telling them:"nice job" 😂

What made that even more impressive, is the fact you did that working off the ground level. Very nice job young fella !

Excellent work Stu!! Thanks for sharing! So nice to see a truly skilled mason at work!!! D

That's some dedication to the craft, rebuilding a demo bench, as it wasn't perfect. Nice.
Came tot he channel for beginner tutorials. Stayed for content like this!!
*Thanks for recommending this to me RUclips*
Thank you for watching Paul
👍 The simplicity of the final design... actually requires strenuous effort to even build one from scratch.
Indeed love ❤️
Been laying brick my whole life. Never seen anybody grape vine the joint with a point up trowel. Looks good.
How do they do this over wide rivers? Or in those mountains? I am sure they used wood or something.

Real tidy job if I had a go I would of maybe tied the header coarse together but maybe doesn't matter!
How do you feel about his design with S type and lime in the mix? Gives it some flexibility and strength.
Love your work man
Great job !
