    It is literally the last gas thing I have is my mower. I want to get the lawn tractor for my half acre. I think it would be perfect since the use my current mower as a catch all. Just have to justify the $5,500 price tag and then get the bagger attachment when it comes out. Probably not this year, but soon enough. I am a little jealous that I bet the new 2 stage will be 80v instead of 4 40v (i just bought it this last fall).

    So two things stood out to me the most. The first was the fact that it seemed like you were having issues making straight passes. It seemed like you were always turning left and right a little bit. In my head this is because the field is bumpy (as you stated) and that’s causing you to bounce around and thus the joystick is moving a bit. Having never operated a ZTR in any form myself maybe this is normal regardless of the user interface. The second thing that stood out to me was the fact that it seemingly exceeded expectations, something Ryobi not Ryobi doesn’t often do. Now that is truly reallll nasssssd like!

    • @ToolReviewZone
      @ToolReviewZone  Год назад +3

      Lol, you are wrong about the passes, ut it was because I wasn't really paying attention. That said, when you first try to make straight passes, it's a bit tough, but if I really had to run a straight line, it would have done it

    I have an old Craftsman Lawn Tractor I purchased in 2004 and it’s still chugging along. However the last few years it has required more maintenance to keep it going. I don’t know how much life is left on it maybe another few years? 🤷🏻‍♂️ it’s possible I will consider some type of High Voltage Lawn Tractor in the future even though my lot is just over a half acre in size. I’m 70 and I just got the Ryobi 40v Push Mower and Trimmer and they work great and are lighter than their gas counterparts and easier for me to manage. So from that standpoint it makes sense to make a switch to Battery/electric. If I were 20 or more years younger I might have a different opinion.

    I have questions, should we leave the mower on the charger all the time? So when ever you need to cut, it is at 100% and really to go. It seems like it will not last as long that we. Or do we "store mode". Then charge just charge up before you cat it? And if so, what percent do you leave it for? That 80v is EXPENSIVE, and we want to last as long as possible. Thanks!

    Have you seen the new 30" 80v push mower that Ryobi released this year. It's very disappointing that Ryobi didn't run 2-40v batteries in Series increasing the voltage to 80v. Most of their consumers already own the 40v lineup and would have increased their chances of sales via tool only. Very disappointing on their part. I have the following in their 40v lineup:
    21" Whisper Mower
    Backpack leaf blower
    2 Stage Snowblower
    Whisper leaf blower
    Whisper Trimmer
    Pressure Washer
    I would have purchased the mower via tool only or with a battery, unfortunately I will not be purchasing this item. This would have added to my collection giving me endless run time with the amount of batteries I have as well. This would also increase their chances with lawn care service providers as well.

    My only problem is that you’re going to have to replace the batteries at some point, and we don’t know how long before they bite the dust. Then how much will they cost to replace? How long does it take to charge the batteries from zero? Batteries are cool when they are new, not so much when they get some serious use on them! Not knocking it, I am in the Ryobi family!

    • @alf699
      @alf699 Год назад +1

      It charges fairly fast....maybe a couple of hours from 0% ??. I have got one here in Australia.
      Having said that....I would not go below 55% SOC (state of charge (left in the battery)). Reason being, as at least mine seems to use up the 40Vdc batteries (over here ours are 36Vdc batteries) before really starting to use the 80Vdc batteries. It reduces the lifetime of the batteries if you leave them deeply discharged for a longer period of time. I have done about 20 runs so far on my 54" inch version (same as tested here) and the lowest I have taken it is 45% total charge left and recharged them after a couple of hours resting period. Otherwise I try to store the mower (if not used for some day or a week or more) at above 60% total charge left.
      Mine is a rough and hilly property and it works perfectly fine at low speed and medium cutting speed settings.
      I do about 3/4 acre and usually have 80% SOC left in it. For the same size area cutting my John Deere L111 42" inch cutting deck used to use a tank of fuel. The 80Vdc Ryobi 54"inch used just 20% of its battery capacity. One of the main reasons is that it is more then twice as quick to cut the same area.

      Dude he did a review on a lawnmower that was using lead acid batteries. They don't like being discharged. They also don't like being stored for even a couple weeks without use. This mower has lithium ion batteries that are proven to retain their life and health even when stored for years. Lithium ion can also do 500 charge cycles before losing only 20% it's capacity. You'll be replacing the mower before you replace the batteries on this bad boy. Gas is terrible compared to battery powered. The dukes alone is enough to say no to gas.

    The lack of a roll bar on these mowers is pure negligence, if not worse. I owned a Ryobi zero turn, albeit with sticks controls. They are light in the front, especially when going up hills, and a bit of inattention, or hitting a bump or hole, and they could easily go over backwards. The removal of the conventional control sticks will only contribute to this potential problem, in my opinion, is with nothing else to hang onto, the operator will be more likely to make unintentional control inputs to the joystick. This is sad, as I own a lot of Ryobi tools already.
