At the same time that corporations are using the criminal justice system to go after any dissent for their actions, they have set up their own private judicial system to deal with people that are victims of their exploitive business practices, by requiring anyone who uses their services to agree to settle any dispute through binding arbitration.
So private policing like Pinkerton's? The public police were designed to protect the upper tier, and the corpocracy, so this crossover has been going on for 150 yrs.
