Could not ask for a perfect finals match in this trials. Both players were fighting tooth and nail. Each time one takes a lead, the other levels up to snatch it back. Impressive games by Xu Xin. I think this is his peak, almost equivalent if not better than his performance during his run to world number 1 ranking in recent years. However, FZD just simply will not be denied. Despite losing three straight games, where most of the time it was almost certain that he'd win them, his confidence never waivered. He dug dip and found a way to climb back up and overcome this peak performance from Xu Xin. FZD has proven once again that he's constantly evolving and will not settle for anything less than number one. Despite losing the last finals against ZQH, I can't help but think that FZD used that recent defeat to his advantage. FZD's drive to win and not deserving for anything less is encapsulated in this match. As a spectator, we should appreciate and realize this epic battle between two titans in the table tennis world today. FZD obviously has a brighter future ahead with youth and time in his favor. Both players should be more than ready to dominate in the Olympics.

It would not have been possible for him to change from the matches where he lost to weak players just two weeks ago to his best at this stage and playing level. If that would have been his best he'd beat Fan Zhendong like several times before.
Xu Xin is 31 and will be 35 at the next Olympics so to think a player like him will probably never get the chance to play in a men singles at an Olympics is incredible but you can't really argue with the Chinese selectors as they have gone with FZD (World Number 1) and Ma Long (Current Olympic and World Champion) for Tokyo men singles. Xu Xin will be there but for doubles. But fantastic game I just watched there.

XX seemed to have it won at 3-1, 8-4. China have two fantastic players aged over 30 and they are bound to suffer with the intensity of all these elite internal tournaments in China. XX served to FZD short or wide forehand almost every single serve. Because XX is left handed, that means XX would have to flick cross court exclusively or risk going right into XX's forehand while FZD is close to the table and still recovering. It looks like a strategic choice for both players.

Think xx adapting differ play style from his usual. 2nd games onwards alot of short balls with light and side spins, and sudden hard push or top spin entangled FZD to do attacking. Very difficult tactic but seemed very effective to counter offensive style. Very interesting to watch! Jia you, xx!

This reminds me of marvellous 12 in 2020 between these two legends .Xu was cruising with 2-1 up and 10-7 up in 4th set. fan then turned things around . This match he kind of did the same . A great comeback from Fan, however why was Xu Xin playing the backhand side of the table with him. He could have moved Fan to the extreme forehand to open up the game. Fans backhand is very strong close to the table, thus for him to use the forehand and then try to counter attack him.

Fan Zhendong is a player who starts off strong but has low stamina, you gotta beat him by endurance. Xu Xin doesn’t have a good head start but he lasted longer hence out performed FZD when he became exhausted to play like how he started.
I've never seen Xuxin looking defeated before. Like he used to look strong and everything. Like Kratos from God of War, but with a warm, kind heart. But, now since he's in his early 30's. He got a bit weak I would say. No offense, but it hurts me to see him like this. He is my idol. He is the reason I started my table tennis journey.
I don’t particularly like it when they emphasise grand slam (大滿貫) so much. I know it’s great, but it also create so much pressure for the players. As if not having 大滿貫, means that your professional career isn’t complete. They are one of the greatest players in the present and they should really feel proud. I understand that when everyone surrounding them (the Chinese themselves) are all top players, it makes them feel like they’re just normal. But imagine if they’re in other countries, they’ll be treated as one of a kind. Anyway, if FZD’s dream is getting the grand slam, I wish him all the best in Paris. It would makes me really happy if he finally get what he wants. FZD has the same age as me, 5 days apart (January baby, he’s 5 days younger tho). Watching him is like a reminder to me, to do great things in life, you’re not old yet, your wondrous life has just begun. Watched lots of his video recently, on-field and off-field. He’s a person that I would die to be. His personality, physique, his smile, his humbleness, he being genuinely nice to people, etc. My dream is to finally meet him one day. No xu even beat Liang 4-0 and xu chenhao 4-1 (who had beaten ma long) so i dont think they would do all this only to give confidence to him and that too for team event . If they would they would for mixed doubles.

Fan Zhendong is a player who starts off strong but has low stamina, you gotta beat him by endurance. Xu Xin doesn’t have a good head start but he lasted longer hence out performed FZD when he became exhausted to play like how he started.
I've never seen Xuxin looking defeated before. Like he used to look strong and everything. Like Kratos from God of War, but with a warm, kind heart. But, now since he's in his early 30's. He got a bit weak I would say. No offense, but it hurts me to see him like this. He is my idol. He is the reason I started my table tennis journey.

I don’t particularly like it when they emphasise grand slam (大滿貫) so much. I know it’s great, but it also create so much pressure for the players. As if not having 大滿貫, means that your professional career isn’t complete. They are one of the greatest players in the present and they should really feel proud. I understand that when everyone surrounding them (the Chinese themselves) are all top players, it makes them feel like they’re just normal. But imagine if they’re in other countries, they’ll be treated as one of a kind. Anyway, if FZD’s dream is getting the grand slam, I wish him all the best in Paris. It would makes me really happy if he finally get what he wants. FZD has the same age as me, 5 days apart (January baby, he’s 5 days younger tho). Watching him is like a reminder to me, to do great things in life, you’re not old yet, your wondrous life has just begun. Watched lots of his video recently, on-field and off-field. He’s a person that I would die to be. His personality, physique, his smile, his humbleness, he being genuinely nice to people, etc. My dream is to finally meet him one day. (Have a photo together of course). Sometimes I hate myself for knowing FZD too late. But I hope it’s not too late yet.

I can't believe in this match. They don't even desguise it. If the Chinese team wasn't trying to give confidence to Xu Xin, after having choosing him for the Olympics, this match would be 4x0 to Zhendong without any effort.

No xu even beat Liang 4-0 and xu chenhao 4-1 (who had beaten ma long) so i dont think they would do all this only to give confidence to him and that too for team event . If they would they would for mixed doubles.
