Do be grateful that you're a young madame, in Judge Rutherford's time the minimum was 150! 😊(check out the 1940s vintage clips at about 2:45 and 7:50 of the video)
@@madamecurious ...and it wasn't Proclaiming the Kingdom that was uppermost on Rutherford's mind. When my dad pioneered in the 1940s, they called them "colporteurs". If you look up the word, it means book peddler. And that's just the business model the Judge had in mind: print tons of books with cheap volunteer Bethel labor, shame people into knocking on doors night and day to peddle them, make plenty of money, and build out from there. Only now the internet and modern life has blown that model up, and along with it, exposed WT for how it operates, and why..
@@kevink2593, thanks for sharing this!! it’s mind boggling how JWs in the Rutherford era could not see this! It was so obvious that he was a charlatan and conman. The 8 conceited men who are the leaders now contributed to me “waking up”. Phew! I’m glad I’m out and I am happy you are too :)
@@kevink2593 That, to me, was the irony reading that page from the 1935 “Year Book”. Yes, I actually paused the video as Phil had the screenshot up. Rutherford had the gall to, not once, but twice on that page, say that Jehovah’s witnesses are not “book agents” or “booksellers”. Not too long before this, the term for “pioneer” was indeed “colporteur”, which comes from a French word the literal definition of which is “bookseller”. The Society, for many years, continued to actually refer to the placing of its publications as “selling books”. Prior to April 1, 1990, the suggested contribution was, in effect, a price tag. I remember that that catalogue the Society provided literature servants, magazine-territory servants and accounts servants was entitled the “Cost List”, and the Society instructed these servants to destroy it each year as the new edition was issued. (Talk about destruction of documents!) I also remember when the literature servant and the magazine-territory servant carried a till and, of course, the Society’s “Receipt” forms, to be filled out in triplicate, inside a file case. The Society is thoroughly a sales organization.

I remember several pioneers being upset when the hour requirement dropped to 70 because they thought we should be working harder in the ministry... I haven't heard that complaint from anyone this time. Deep down, everyone knows the ministry is completely pointless.
Thanks Phil! It hit me hard to think of my grandparents and the pressure they felt to go peddling when they had little children! It's no wonder the JWs create narcissists. Those children were abused thru neglect so badly by their parents ignoring them to preach Knorr's(Franz's) word! Arrrgh!!!
I think they lowered the numbers because there was a rush of pioneers during COVID because you basically didn't have an hourly requirement and you could just sit home, dressed from the waist up, and pretend to letter write. Now that they have to actually do something, they know they will loose a lot so they wanted to make it as easy as possible and as you mentioned the cart and working at projects would fill that hourly requirement easily.
It'll also work better for those who have seasonal jobs; work full-time during busy months, then put in up to 100 hours if you're used to that in slack months. That'll appeal to some JWs.
I’m literally shocked they used the terminology “company” vs. congregation. I find out something new about the history of this religion dang near every day.

Hi Phil, Great content! I thoroughly enjoy your videos, they are very informative and very funny! I have watched many and I always learn something I never knew as an unbaptized JW(born in), I left many years ago in my late teens or early 20's. I knew many of the people you have spoken about in your previous videos. My family attended the Jamestown West congregation for many years and the Conewango congregation before that. I don't remember you or your family, but I didn't attend very regularly in the late 90's, so maybe we were there at different times or maybe I had completely stopped going by then, I can't remember. My maiden name was Carlson. My brother is still a witness and my parents both passed away as full believers. My sister and I are the only non witnesses in our immediate family. Just some background for you, not that you need to know, but I wanted you to know a bit. I appreciate your take on things. So many things you have said resonate with me. Keep up the great work, I will be watching!
I wonder if the decrease in 2004/5 had to do with a letter to elders addressing the PINO (pioneers in name only) phenomenon where some pioneers were getting all their hours in on RBC projects and even some signing up to pioneer only because of their RBC hours
40 hours a month in the year 2040? Wait, won’t Armageddon be here by then? Aren’t we living “in the final part of the final part of the last days”? It is so obvious that Watchtower is just a corporation masquerading as a religion. It is all about numbers for them.
Just one clarification: The non-preaching hours are kept separate from the preaching tally so they don't show up in the report. But they of course make up a big chunk of many pioneers requirement, especially males. So if there's increase in Bethel activity, it can distort the preaching numbers in a weird way. The org hopes to keep it at a minimum, but of course the brothers will usually be more than happy to do organizational work rather than just preach for hundreds of hours. When I was a Bethel commuter, I put my Bethel hours on the backside of the report slip and field hours to the front. Only those front hours get sent to the Branch. Then at the end of the year, your field hours are tallied with your Bethel hours to see if you made your requirement. Maybe that is forwarded to the branch, can't remember. But I think those numbers are never published. And non-pioneers can't even report those on their reports, so they are lost forever. And if I remember correctly, my year requirement was cut from 840 to 780 to allow me to have some holiday since you can't report over the monthly requirement if you have other assignments in the hours.
The "end" is so imminent that instead of accelerating down the home stretch, the Watchtower god is only decreasing the number of hours to pioneer. This fundamentalist cult no longer resembles anything in the image of its absurd "elastic" generation. This cult is slowly dying before our eyes.
