I do not know about in 2019 but I know now you can buy that knob on Amazon along with the fuel air mixture knob (rich/lean) and all the informational stickers as well for the Johnson/ evinrude 9.9/15 hp motors
I have a 79 Johnson my problem is I can start it in gear and run it , but as soon as I let off the throttle it dies . Won’t start if in neutral . Mine also doesn’t have the adjustment knob on the bottom right of the motor has a place it was supposed to be but the whole thing is gone . Is that my problem or any idea ?
vojomatusenko - I just bought the same outboard motor as the one in your video. I hope that you will answer my question. I want to do away with the idle stop and be able to 'rev up' the hand throttle as can be done in forward and reverse gears. On a cool or cold day when I have started my previous outboard motors, I find that I must be able to 'rev up' the motor to keep it running until I can push the choke in and let it idle at normal speed. Please tell me how I can go about being able to 'rev up' the motor in the idle position or if it's not possible to do so. Thank you.
Hi. Right above your fuel pump is rev limiter which is attached to armature plate. It moves as you twist the handle and hits the stop metal piece attached to the power head. This stop is adjustable up to some point with loosening two bolts holding it and sliding it toward the front of the motor. If your stop is maxed out you can only modify your rew limiter, the one which moves as you twist handle, the one which is right above your fuel pump. Watch where it hits stationary piece and cut out some metal with grinder. If you want completely delete neutral rew limiter cut out completely stationary piece. Hope this help.
@@vojomatusenko Hi, this helps greatly. I called a local well known boat service shop and they said it was designed that way and there is no 'work around'. I knew if any one would have the answer it would be you. Thank you.
if you can't get your motor to start right without having to revv it up, something else is wrong. i have 3 of these and all of them just need a tiny bump in throttle to get them going. also, if you revv it up really high when starting you can snap a reed! the engineers who built these motors have that lockout feature for a reason.
i just bought one (1978 9.9 Johnson) and want to fix it up right. I checked compression and I get 92 and 98. Is it worth sinking any money into it or should i open it up to increase the compression...if that is even worth it? Thanks for sharing
No, it’s not unless you have sentimental value in it. Motor with this compression will runn for many many years. Remember we are not using them everyday like ours cars.
Thats plenty of compression for a 2 stroke. Ideally you want both cylinder readings to be as close as possible within a 10% variance. So id say your compression is excellent
Try brake cleaner real good the cut through the grease and gum up and then wd-40 / pb blaster on all the gears and contact surfaces before taking it apart Should be 2 sets of gears 1 in the inside and the out side and some plastics grommets for them sometimes the old grease gums it up other than that it could be your plate that moves the acceleration lever under the fly wheel
Like to see around 120 PSI but your motor is still good and you should not feel any difference in performance. Had motors with 80 PSI and still running as good as ones with 120 PSI.
boaksey crew I know it’s been a while but I would look at the CDI box. In the past I’ve tapped on the box and they would regain spark. If it’s the case it’s probably a bad box.
I have a Johnson 15 hp Seahorse.
That bare hands starting is real badass !!! Cheers!

Thats a great solution to a common problem.
That is a CHAMPION idea V.
Good work. I have the same motor. I need the armature plate can you help me. Thanks

can you explain or do a video on how to set that idle?

Can i have your email i have a couple questions about my 15hp 1975 johnson

I have the same engine the throttle will not twist at all like it is frozen up any ideas can't find nothing online
Make sure the shifter lock out isn't messed up. Its suppose to lock out the throttle in neutral to prevent an out of control engine

What kind of compression should one get from these? I have a '80 15hp and it was 105 and 107 or so. Sound right?

125 under 100 buy new rings
just brought one and she just cut out on me after running OK. then no spark any ideas ?? thanks
